Hi everyone, it's Ellie Knol with you today. I'd like to share with you an altered cigar box I I made.

When deciding on what I wanted to make, I already knew I wanted to use tissue paper in several ways. One of them to use paper napkins; second to create texture, and third to be able to stamp on the paper and use it for collage. 

This wooden cigar box was waiting patiently in my stash to be altered. I chose to add some sturdy cardboard to the lid, inside and bottom of it to make it more robust and sophisticated box (smile), not just a  plain old cigar box. I will not bore you with info on this process. 

This is the finished project. I'll try and explain all the different stages it went through before I called it done. It's even has little feet, which are four rectangle beads in a red color. 

I started by painting the box in white gesso. Covered the outside of the box with creased tissue paper, by applying it to the surface with decoupage glue. When dry, it got a coat of Snowflake Fresco Finish paint and that's where the fun starts!

Next I stamped the script from ECF03 in black randomly onto the lid of the box and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. 

I cut out the images from the paper napkin and adhered them to the surface with decoupage glue.  

You will see that the paper napkin is very transparent because you can actually see the stamped script through the napkin tissue images. 

Create some embellishments from (air drying) clay in a mould. After it has dried paint it with gesso and Snowflake Fresco Finish. 

PS! The smaller heart was just a plain heart; I've added texture with a stamp from set ECF04 by pressing the stamp into the clay to create some texture.

Adhere parts of the paper napkin to some of the clay embellishments to match up so the pictures will still be 'visible' but now on top of the clay embellishments.  

I did not add this to all of them on purpose, now it looks more random. 

Stamp images from ECF04 onto tissue paper and tear it to pieces to be able to use them for collage on the sides of the box.  

( Front and back of the box; yes, I created a faux key hole) 

Add a little bit of blue distress ink to the sides of the box and mist with water. 

I LOVE working (playing) with tissue paper.

2015 Theme 2: Shiny Stuff

Hi everyone Penny here, joining you this evening with a post about adding the glitz to your project with gilding flakes or foils.This is a great way to bring out the highlights on any textured surface....rich and blingy!

I am very happy to have been allowed a pre-launch play with some of the new Lin Brown stamps, so you will get a sneaky peek today......but will have to wait until next week for the full reveal!

If I decorate the cover of a new sketchbook it often inspires me to work on the inside pages

Step One: To make the textured stamping surface, I spread a layer of PVA glue over the surface of the book cover and then using a brayer, rolled on a layer of paper clay to a
thickness of about 1/8th inch.

 I used one of the new Eclectica {Lin Brown} stamp sets ...

Step Two: While the clay was still damp, I stamped the images to make a village landscape. These stamps make beautiful deep and sharp impressions in the paper clay.

Step Three: When the clay had dried, it was time to add some colour. I blocked areas with Fresco Finish Acrylics in lovely bright colours: Yellow Submarine, Turquoise, Tango, Guacamole and Orchid, brushing the edges of the areas into each other and then over layering using a dry brush technique.

Step Four: Now for the glitz!

Using the brayer. I rolled gilding paste/ glue over the surface, catching all the raised parts of the clay where I wanted the gold foil or flake to catch. This gets a bit tacky as it 'dries'.

Step Five: I applied gilding foil with a cool iron to the partly dried gilding paste (you could also use gilding flakes for this). It is up to you how much bling you want to add! Depending on the gilding product you use, you may not need an iron. Some just grab to the glue/ paste without the need for heat.

Step Six: Finally, I used my finger to rub in a few areas of darker colour. I used Fresco Finish Baltic Blue, wiping back with a baby-wipe to reveal the gold and the under layers of colour. Love the texture!

This started as a bit of an experiment and now I can see many other possibilities for embellishments, stitching and 3-D projects (yay!). Watch this space...

Wow Penny, we love your abstract gilding effect here, the paper clay looks fab! Such an unusual technique to brayer it on. Your journal looks so cheerful.
