NEW PaperArtsy Products: ZinskiArt {April 2021}

 Zinski Art Collection
April 2021 New Product Announcement

A note from Leandra:
For this release, Elena has created some 'Girls with Attitude', and they've got sass, that's for sure! I'm sure parents, grandparents or teachers of pre-teens will very likely relate to these designs! They are full of life, and bounce! it's been my absolute pleasure to create the samples for this release, take a look below at what I got up to.

I'll be live in the PaperArtsy People  Facebook group shortly after this post publishes, I hope you can join me LIVE or on the replay.

Remember, you can only purchase these stamps EXCLUSIVELY with our approved stockists for the next 3-4 months.

Hello everyone, it's Elena here.
Girls with attitude! Girls with sass and confidence, girls who break the unimportant rules like 'blue and green must never be seen' and just enjoy life. They stick their head above the parapet and stand up for what they believe. These girls aren't shy, they're no wall flower, they're not beige they are colourful and fun!

I came up with a version of these a long long time ago, they sat in my sketch pad waiting to be re-visited, so on a rare tidy up day, you know how one goes through things and tidying takes sooo much longer than planned?!...I looked at them and they were a bit dated to say the least, so I re-drew them to bring them out of the 80's. Puffed giant flowery shouldered sleeves were replaced with striped and polka dot t-shirts and fitted pencil skirts replaced with casual, more comfortable, jeans and trackies. I hope you enjoy these and that they encourage you to be bold and inspire you to feel free and unrestricted...go on, splash paint and get messy!

ZinskiArt 62 (ZA62)

This set has so much energy packed into it. You can just see these 2 playing hopscotch together after school and laughing along with each other and their friends.

Throwing Sass

Actually, their faces do look a bit green from all the running and jumping, but despite my background colour not being quite right, I can see that they also will be really handy Halloween stamps too! I'll call that a happy accident!

Chopping up the hopscotch image allowed me to make a bit of a random background, and the swoosh of sparkle adds an idea of movement.

Adding colour to these characters is really what is the fun and relaxing part. I used paints, with the end of my paintbrush handle used to add dots to her bandana. Colouring pencils can easily add a bit more shade in the obvious places. The nice thing about frescos is that as a chalk paint, the 'grit' of the chalk is the perfect 'tooth' for pencils to grab onto.

ZinskiArt 63 (ZA63)

This set is all about girl-power! I just love that their confidence and personalities are on display ready for some summer holiday fun.

Lime Flowers anyone ?

I went the easy route on this one, a gel-printed background just needs a bright character on top. The book pages added a base for her, and chopping up the words allows you to spread them across the page a little.

You will see below a bit of an insight into how I made this background. Once you have a colour combination, it's just a matter of finding some stencils or textures and off you go! Even with a tiny gel plate (mine was 3x5") after about 30 mins you have about 6 sheets ready to use.

The other trick is to create a pale area for the focal image to 'pop off' I ued a wonderful JOFY stencil with 'Chalk' white paint for that purpose.

ZinskiArt 64 (ZA64)

Autumn Leaves

This stamp set has that 1970's vibe don't you think? Her dungaree-dress, the 'beaded curtain and the funky patterns of the border. There is lots of appeal - she could be at a summer music festival for sure!

It may be spring in the Northern Hemisphere, but down-under they are heading into autumn, and my colour palette was reminiscent of falling leaves, and that leaf stamp was perfect! Some fussy cutting, a bit of glue. I went simple with the background, but couldn't resist turning the 1970's style flower-power beaded curtain (on its side) for a backdrop.

Don't be scared to us paint on a face. I find it a really nice way to add some cheek shading or eye shadow detail. If you inadvertently obliterate a black line, then a pigment fine liner pen will bring back the detail. This is also an option if you want to change the eyes, perhaps to have her looking in a different direction, or even to change the style of the eyes altogether, if you feel bold enough.

A couple of projects to share with you now, and a bit more detail about those lovely bold backgrounds too.

I've arrived!

Yep, she's the party girl for sure! I'm here! Is her cry as she arrives and the party can begin!

First I grabbed an assortment of stencils and my lovely PaperArtsy brayer. Personally for gel prints, I prefer to use fine detail stencils, or those with lots of open space, that way the stencils lines are delicate, and the colour takes pride of place in the large gaps. I also find is less brain strain as you can kind of see or guess more easily what you are going to get.

Next choose your colours. So if you think about it the selection is primary colours. I have a Cherry Red, with Blush to soften or knock back. Butter is my gentle yellow, with orange to zing it up, and my blue is Aqua Duck Egg. If you work with primary colours, you also can't make mud, those colours will blend and create new shades as you work without making mud. If you are new to gel printing, this can be a smart move, and taking the primary shades down a notch to soft tones is very easy on the eye.

Here is a snapshot of the results, and I think by the look of it I may have sneaked in a splashing of Bougainvillea too, although you will be surprised the pinks and purples you will create from a mix of Aqua Duck Egg, Cherry Red and Blush!

Ok, so back to the project. I stamped the focal girl onto some gel-printed paper, trying to get her flared trousers a different shade to her top. I glued that onto some kraft card for strength, and added watery chocolate pudding around the edge to give her a bit of a shadow.

Also, look closely at her eyes, and compare them to the stamp itself. I opened them up with some 'eyeballs' and made her pupils a bit larger too, i think its nice to be able to edit the facial features. {Tip: test this idea on scrap paper first so you feel comfortable doing this}.

My background was a piece of old book page that I kept cleaning my brayer and paintbrush off onto. I also added a couple of strips of gel print below to lengthen it and used a pigment pen to define the shape.

A flower from ZA62, the words from ZA63, and it's done.

Miss Cool

She's eyeing up her strategy for sure! As above, using the gel prints for colour-pop, and contrasting that with the craft card. I Love how the border worked to frame this piece perfectly.

I left her eyes as Elena intended for this one! She just makes me smile with her knowing side-eye, and that cheeky smirk!

I like to frame each word with roughly hand-drawn boxes before cutting out and adding to a project.

Well I am sure you will have as much fun as I have had making these samples! Elena's stamps are super-easy to work with. And they are a great opportunity to practise your colouring skills too! I think my next project is to start swapping out the heads and bodies to create some new people, sound macabre, but I have the seed of an idea!

Take care

Our brand is only available from established stockists who are VAT/ GST/ sales tax registered and for whom product education is a core principle. We would rather supply a few hand selected stockists, than the greater masses. If you would like to apply to be a stockist, you can find our more about our supply criteria here. Please note we are not accepting new stockists until we are relocated into our new building here in France. Covid restrictions have slowed our progress somewhat, so we hope to be in by the latter part of 2021.
