2018 Topic 17: Colour - A Box of Eggs {Topic Introduction and Challenge}

2018 Topic 17: A Box of Eggs (Colour Topic)

Well hello everyone, Darcy here. Our latest topic is all about colour, pale, delicate pastels with some spots of stronger hues for contrast. What am I talking about? Egg colours! Think of a box of beautiful mixed box of eggs. They come in more colours than you might imagine, whites, greys, creams, all shades of brown, pink, blue and green.

Illia
We, helpfully, have some awesome pastel and egg colours in our Fresco paint range, this is especially true in our latest additions, designed by Courtney Franich. these new colours work in pairs; a light and a dark, but they all work beautifully well together. When you put all the lighter shades together they look like the colours of eggs! So hence this topic, a 'Box of Eggs' was born!

All 12 of the newest colours can be seen in this post  and can be found at your local PaperArtsy stockist.

Before we start, let's see who won the Topic 16: Reinkers Challenge...

The winner is: Alison from Craftytrog's Arty Adventures

Last year we did a colour study called 'Shades of white' . The feedback was that people found it super challenging, but loved the outcome! I guess this is a slightly more colourful version of that, soft neutrals with a hint of pastel!

So let us dive straight into some examples.

These colours have always worked well as interior design combinations, never really falling out of fashion, restful and beautiful they work wonderfully in bedrooms.

Sewalittlelove
But of course they are not limited to bedrooms.
Decorpad
Jewellery is always pretty and feminine when employing these shades.

Tekaandzoe

This postcard is a great mix of egg colours and art nouveau styling.
Bramblewood
A sweet card that uses many of the egg colours in a wonderful combination.
Therese Calvird
This one is much more abstract, but still the pastels work well, often the duck egg blue dominates, but this time the pink takes centre stage.

One Oliver
How perfect are these colours for wedding stationery?

Sarah Wants
The lovely soft green isn't a colour that you would usually associate with Valentines, but here it is and this card looks perfect.

Deb
I just love the more muted shades on this card, brown and blue always go well together.

Kathy
This one, too, uses the palest of the egg colours, but just look at that pop of red, how striking! I really love the speckling effect that suggests a speckled egg.

Cindy Hall

Of course you could decorate eggs themselves, these ones have been done with decoupaged napkins.

Torie Jayne
If layers and dimension are your thing then look no further, how could you not get lost in this creation. So many layers and details to discover.

Galina
Finally to journal pages, mmm these blends are so yummy. See how all the elements come together, beautiful colours, texture, layers, half hidden details, subtlety mixed with boldness.

Pam Carikker

Another page that uses all the egg colours, blending and over layering colours to create depth before adding the focal points.
Junelle Hallstrom Jacobsen

A last piece, this time a canvas. This cleverly uses the warmer shades of yellows as a base, then the cooler blues are layered on top. the brown stems draw your eyes to the focal point and the white adds freshness and light.

Donna Downey
Have fun, experiment with these delicious colours, explore layers and textures, light and dark. Remember that our newest paints already come in pairs of light and dark to help you out.

Congrats to Alison on the win!
This colour challenge is really interesting. I particularly like the art nouveau inspiration piece and the glass plate of the different coloured eggs is fabulous.
