2018 Topic 15: Artist Trading Coins
We
are really loving this topic. In this post Jennie pulls out Vintage
'Ink and the Dog' stamps. The Ink and the Dog stamps were the original
stamps we launched PaperArtsy with in 2003. We have never discontinued
any as the vintage genre stands the test of time, of course!
A
few years back, we pulled some of the most popular images, and resized
them to a larger format. There are 10 plates in the Vintage I&D
collection which you can find here. ~ Leandra
Hi everyone, it's Jennie (Live The Dream) with you today sharing two different ways of using the same stamp set.
I
have always loved creating Artist Trading Cards as they are such a
wonderful means of trying out new techniques in a small space. So I was
intrigued by this new craze for Artist Trading Coins. Creating in a
circular area is not as easy as a rectangle, but .... it was still great
fun and, as with ATC's, really makes you look at your stamps and what
you can use in the space.
For the first two Coins I have used the larger elements of the stamp set layering them on a Distress Oxide Base. Then for the second two I have used smaller elements from the individual stamps along with some Paper Dolls to create quite a different set.
I loved the individual images on this stamp set which was one of the original Ink and the Dog sets launched in 2003 and which was aimed at ATC art.
I was very fortunate in having the right size punch for these coins (I am not normally so lucky!) and so was able to punch out circles from the Smoothy cardstock. I used the 240gms card for the actual coin itself and then punched a couple from the heavy 340gms card to mount them on so they had a lovely solid feel - like coins.
I blended Stormy Skies and Dusty Concord Distress Oxides onto each of the circles and then spritzed them with water. I love the way you can keep blending until happy with the colour. I tried a little background stamping but wasn't sure whether it would be too busy for what I wanted.
I love this image which stamped very well in the two colours of Distress Oxides. This coin did need some background stamping, so I have used parts of the oriental script postcard. There are so many different individual elements to this stamp set!
Here I have used the ruler from the "house" and the little frank from the original postcard.
I have used similar elements for the second coin but cutting out little bits and pieces to layer on top of the vintage gent.
I loved the text and number collage stamp so much I just kept using it as a background and then isolating various parts of it. There are numbers, letters, words and a butterfly - I could have gone on and on!
I used the same Distress Oxides for the stamping sometimes blending two colours together.
And the final set using all the same elements but a lighter background text stamp - one of my favourite Ink and the Dog Minis.
I
certainly got "hooked" on making these coins and as I have a punch the
right size can imagine punching spares ready for decoration from
discarded backgrounds and mis-stamped images. As usual I have isolated
even the smallest elements from the stamp set to create two different
styles and which I hope inspires you to check out the smaller details of
your stamp collection!
As always thank you for joining me.
