2018 #5 Nautical Colours: Underwater Sparkle with ESC {by Kate Yetter}

 Topic 5:  Nautical Colours

There is so much to enjoy about this fishy journal page from Kate: striking, bold, non-traditional underwater colours, funky fish and coral, and the great use of white space! It might look like a fishy stand-off between mermaid-guard and the 'school' is about to kick off...but is it?? I'd love to be a close-up observer of what happened next! ~ Leandra

Kate here, sharing an art journal page featuring these beautiful nautical themed stamps along with Infusions and Fresco Finish Paints. My inspiration to make this layout started with my fascination with mermaids. I have been contemplating making a mermaid/mythical creature themed art journal for some time and once I saw these stamps I knew they would be perfect.

When I think of the ocean I think of all the amazing color and sea life, so of course I made my layout full of color. I added some texture and pretty glitter to mimic the underwater sparkle.

The very first thing I made for this layout was the mermaid. I used a die for the upper half of the mermaid and the larger fish from the stamp set for the bottom half. The round fish was used to stamp the scales on her bodice and the sea weed was used for her hair.

I used Infusions for the background and Fresco Finish Paints for the stamped images.

I love that you can still see the stamping through the paints due to their translucent quality.

When I started brainstorming for this layout I wasn’t quite sure if I could pull off implementing a mermaid. But I loved using the stamps in this set in an unusual way. I challenge you to look at your stamps and see them in a different light. You might be surprised how much fun you have.
