NEW PaperArtsy Products {Kay Carley} with Helen Chilton

 NEW Eclectica³ {Kay Carley} Jan 2018

And finally today with Kay's extensive release, it's Helen's turn. Helen always pulls something out of the bag, so lets see what is in her box of tricks with these new stamps!

Hi everyone, Helen here.

You're going to love Kay's new release - not only do they work well as individual sets, they also work well together and with her existing designs. You've got beautifully delicate sprigs and scrolls with lovely flowers and trees and also a whole set of what I think of as meadow grasses. Add to that some snippets of text and you're all set to create gardens of delight. As I love layering up stamp designs to give depth and dimension, these are ideal.

Let's start with some ideas with each of the new products.

Eclectica³ Kay Carley Set 12 (EKC12)

Rhapsody in blue (and yellow and pink....)

I love these round cotton wool ball shaped flowers as you can really make them three dimensional using shading and highlighting. I've crackled the background to give it a vintage feel.

It's easy to stamp the outline over the top of the painted flowers - a touch of white on the berries makes them pop.

Eclectica³ Kay Carley Set 13 (EKC13)

Medley of Daisies

This set has beautiful daisy flower heads in different shapes which means you can build interesting groupings. I particularly like the pointy one with the twirls.

If you look closely you can see I've stamped the background in colour with some of the leaves and sprigs.

Eclectica³ Kay Carley Set 14 (EKC14)

Cottage Garden

Those tall flowers drew me to this set immediately - they work perfectly with the sprig like flower. It makes me think of a sunny cottage garden.

There is layer upon layer in this sample built up on a very simple paint scraped background.

Eclectica³ Kay Carley Set 15 (EKC15)

Bloom, Grow and Blossom

Instead of paints I've used Distress Oxides for the background here and then painted in the flowers. I liked the separate stalk in this set as you can bend it whichever way you like and also use it for a border.

Don't you just love that swirly stem? As a stamp it's great for stamping on backgrounds and borders - not too heavy but very organic.

Eclectica³ Kay Carley Set 17 (EKC17)

Meadow Grasses

This was the first set I reached for as I'm never happier than when I'm building up a meadow with layer upon layer of grasses. The background was originally purple and blue paint which I stamped into while wet pulling it around the card.

This stamp set gives you a lovely range of different shape grasses - tall and straight, spreading, more solid images and smaller fillers. Perfect! I added the text to give it a focal point.
 Eclectica³ Minis
This year we are excited to release 8 mini stamps under Kay's range. Minis are small credit card sized stamps. They are super handy images that are designed to work with the bigger sets, or they could be stand alone designs that can be used on a tag or card front.

The codes are Eclectica³ Mini 25 (EM25) through to Eclectica³ Mini 32 (EM32).

Bloom, Grow and Blossom

Here's a simple set of three ATCs using the framed mini stamps. The minis are also great to combine with the stencils as you can see below.

PaperArtsy Stencils
Not only do we have cute minis, but Kay has more Stencils too. These are 6.25" x 7" made from a robust mylar. Some are designed to work directly with specific stamps, and others are stand alone that work perfectly to create backgrounds that could work across the entire collection.

PaperArtsy Stencil 075 (PS075)

Spring Garden

I've actually used two of the stencils here - the grass stalks (080) in the background and then these tall flowers in front. You can flip your stencil to have the blooms bending whichever way you want.

I used coloured pencils here - it gave a lovely texture over the crackled paint.

PaperArtsy Stencil 076 (PS076)

A Touch of Foil

I couldn't resist a bit of foiling on this design - these flower sprigs are perfect for that. I used the stem from EKC15 for the border stamping.

I like the fact that you can make your sprig short or tall and have it facing either way. Just remember, I've only used one of the designs on the stencil here.

PaperArtsy Stencil 077 (PS077)

Trailing Vines

This stencil design is very delicate yet works perfectly with coloured Grunge Paste. I particularly like the dot pattern at the edge.

If I'd thought of it, I'd have had some of the stencilling draping over the Mini stamp design. Don't forget, the vines can also grow from the bottom upwards or even side to side.

PaperArtsy Stencil 078 (PS078)

A Burst of Blooms

This stencil reminds me of firework blossoms bursting into bloom. Next time I might try using two tones of Grunge Paste - perhaps purple fading to blue.

I've used a couple more of Kay's mini stamps here for the focal point - EM26 (butterflies) and EM30 (flower frame).

PaperArtsy Stencil 079 (PS079)

Purple Trees

I've kept the stencilling simple here, just using two shades of purple Grunge Paste. Note how that grasses stencil (PS080) crept in again? I can see I'm going to be using that a lot. You could stencil it once then shift it along a bit and stencil again to create double the amount of grass. It would be interesting to try using the tree stamps (EKC16) over the stencil as well.

Tall Stems

The Infusions came in here to colour the background and then I've added flowers from a couple of sets - EKC12 and 14. They both have tall flowers so work well together.

In the background you can see I've used gesso with the stencil PS075. By gessoing onto the blank card and then adding colour (in this case the Infusions) over the top, you always get interesting effects. Try it with Frescos or Distress Oxides.

Pearly Flowers

This one makes me happy - I think it's the colour of the tall flowers against the crackled background.

The grass stencil has crept in again - this time I've also had the grasses hanging down from the top.
A Bunch of Blooms

This one has a quick and easy background - just the flower heads stamped repeatedly in paint. That lovely twirly stamp comes into its own again.

Summer's Evening

I went a bit off piste here with the colours as I was only supposed to use yellow in small amounts (teach me to read the instructions properly!) but I wanted to build up some scenes using inks, in this case Distress Oxides.

Stamping the dragonfly in black provides a good contrast (and covers up a smudge!)

Butterfly Grasses

This one is actually a painted background and goes mad with the layering up. You can see that the black hadn't fully dried and so caught some of the embossing powder as well, but in the end I quite liked that.

The pearlized butterflies are from the mini stamp EM26.

 Birdhouse and Branches

You can see from this card how well the mini stamps (EM25) work with the larger sets - Kay really has thought of everything.

The coloured stamping in the background shows how the stamps can be used in any direction. As for the birds, well, they just made me smile!

So, as you can see from my artwork and the artwork of the others, these stamps are very versatile. Keep the designs clean and simple or go mad like me and build up layer upon layer - each to their own taste. I've loved having the chance to create with them. Imagine using them not only with Kay's other stamps, but with stamps from the many other PaperArtsy designers. Mix it up a bit and have some fun.

Helen
