GD: Penny Nuttall Project #3 Altered Lampshade And Canvas

Hello, Penny here and welcome to day 3 everyone. Today we have a no-sew, fabric and paper, stamping and stencilling, singing and ..... well not quite!....design project. So much fun!

I'm always on the look-out for something to alter, I spotted this sad looking lamp in the charity shop for £3.

I started by taking off the trim and covered the lamp shade with old dresspattern tissue paper and acrylic matt medium.

At this point I didn't know what colours to use, so I thought I would do a try-out on a small canvas first (I'm not normally that cautious).

Not sure about the yellow so I brushed over with watery Dusty Teal. Like the way the paint sits in thecrinkles. Now back to the shade.

I used low tac tape to hold the stencil PS002 round the curve of the shade and dabbed on neat Dusty Teal and Baltic Blue with a stencil brush.

Now the large flowers using JOFY10 ......... following the pictures.

I used PaperArtsy's cutting die Bloom 1 to cut felt flowers (cuts through a dream!) and made paper rosettes (Tim Holtz Alterations dies).

And for the smaller flowers, I cut stencils for the block colour ....

.... and overstamped as before. The felt layer is a slightly larger hand cut flower shape. All the flowers are layered and glued.

Finally I glued the flowers to the shade (no sewing required!)

If the lampshade is not your thing.....why not try the canvas.

I hope you have enjoyed all three projects this week as much as I have enjoyed making them. See you all again next month.

~Penny~

Leandra Says: what a gorgeous colour combo, and it really like you off set shadow blocks on the JOFY flowers. Lots of great inspiration here that could be used on cards as well as interior decor items! Great week Penny!

Gillian Says: I'm really enjoying your home decor inspired projects this week Penny. How beautiful would these pieces look within a white washed room. Can you tell my thoughts are by the sea lol!

If you would like to join in this week's challenge and playalong with Penny's techniques, then do link up your creativity here, and go in the draw to win some PA stamps of your choice! You need to link your entry by 17:00, SundayJune 22nd 2014.

This would be a very 'brave' colour combo for me but I do love it. The red is so striking against the background and those flowers are brilliant. Fabulous tip for doing the colour blocking in the centres. I like Dana's idea of matching shade and wall canvas.
