Tag Card {with Hot Picks Stamps by Helen Chilton}

Hi everyone,  Helen here - you see I just couldn't stay away! I'm going to be here to do the odd (well, not too odd, I hope!) post throughout this year.

For today's project, I got out my Portfolio Water Soluble Oil Pastels again - such lovely bright colours, and created this Industrial Tag Card.

I've used 3 different stamp sets, one for the main image, HP1205

and 2 for the text stamps, HP1106

 and also  ID04

First of all, stamp some text onto copy paper (I used Stazon Jet Black ink) - I've deliberately chosen different fonts and sizes - then tear out pieces to fit a panel of white card. I put the larger, heavier text at the bottom. It's easier to just stick it on first and then trim down the sides:

Next get out your Portfolios and work out your colours - I tend to scribble on scrap paper first.

Then go for it and colour all over the text and card(you don't have to be neat!),smooth and blend the Portfolio watercolour oil crayons with your fingertip.

Once I was happy with the colour, I chose 2 stencils: Mini Garden GateMini Chevron ArrowsI took the first stencil and laid it over the coloured text. Then I gently rubbed it over with a baby wipe to remove colour.

Because the Portfolios are water soluble, you can remove colour and end up with lighter and darker areas. Next, get the chevron template and rub over patches with a slightly darker blue. I then added white as I thought this was too dark.

After that I stamped the old bus in black and lightly stuck it down. I didn't add any colour to it as I liked the black and white effect.

I added a few words and layered it onto black card, tearing along the bottom edge to match the coloured panel.Then I punched and distressed some holes in the top, added some wired washers and there you are, all finished.

I'll be back to do another post next month!
Helen

A huge thank you to Helen from PaperArtsy HQ. Welcome back, this is a versatile project that can easily be adapted onto a small canvas or a greeting card. It would work especially well for a male card, we all know how difficult those can be!

If you would like to join in our weekly challenge with any of this week's guests who have blogged since Sunday night, then join in to link up your creativity HERE. You will go in the draw to win PA stamps of your choice! You need to link your entry by 17:00 (London time) Sunday January 12th 2014.

Really inspiring piece. Not seen the effect of lifting colour from portfolio crayons before. Another triumph thanks. X

Lovely to see Portfolios being used again. You've really inspired me to try these techniques. Portfolios were some of the first PA products I tried after seeing Leandra's tutorials on them, melting and blending and stamping on them. It's a great idea to use them with stencils and to rub away some of the colour like this. Julie Ann xx
