2019 Topic 18: Shaving Foam

Hi everyone, it's Amanda (ink-a-pink) with you today, and I'd like to share with you a few projects I have created for the current Topic: Shaving Foam.

Although
the basic 'Shaving Foam' technique has been around for the longest time
I haven't as yet tried it out. I did buy a can of shaving foam about 6
yrs ago thinking I would have a go but thinking was about as far as I
got so this topic seemed like a good opportunity to finally give it a
whirl. Oh what messy fun I had even though I didn't follow all the 'how
to's' of the basic technique.
I used PaperArtsy Fresco Finish paints with my shaving foam. The colour palette I opted for was China, Smoked Paprika, Midnight and Summer Sky - one of the new fabulous colours to the range.
Rather
than using a container to spray my foam into I just sprayed it onto a
glass mat. I moved the Fresco Finish Acrylic paints through the foam in
horizontal lines and 'pulled some prints'. PaperArtsy Heavy Super Smoothy card stands up well to the wetness of the foam/paint mix.
I
also sprayed some foam onto an acrylic block, spreading it out using a
brayer and then adding the Fresco Finish Acrylic paints 'Jackson
Pollock' style! I didn't swirl or move the paints around this time I
left them just as they were and then pulled some prints.
The
acrylic block also came in handy to pick up some of the foam/paint mix
which I then used as a stamp to make even more prints.
All of which created a multitude of prints, each and every one being so unique.
I selected some of my favourites pieces to create my project - a handy little notebook.
The notebook itself is cut from Sissix notebook die designed by Eileen Hull.
The small circles stamp from EKD01 added a touch of simple background detail to the shaving foam prints that I used for the outer covers.
I kept the back free of decoration so it would sit flat on a surface to aid ease of use.
The small circles teamed well with the triple circle stamp from EKD01 to add some complimenting detail to the shaving foam prints I used to cover the inner walls of the notebook.
I also used the triple circle stamp along with the lined part of the long stamp from EKD03 to create some funky circular 'lollipop's' and an accent to embellish the front cover.
They are coloured with the same PaperArtsy Fresco Finish paints that I used to create the shaving foam prints.
I carried a couple of 'accents' through to the spine.
Now
a notebook isn't any use without a pen or pencil right? So I covered a
small pencil with a piece of canvas that I'd printed with the foam/
paint mix and I'm all set to write, doodle, draw to my hearts content!
As
I was gathering together all my unused prints there was one that really
caught my eye. It reminded me of a photo negative and the more I looked
at it the more I could see an image. Maybe a tree, a weeping willow
perhaps?
So I simply mat n layered it, stamped the sentiment from EKD01 and created a card.
I
know I said in my intro that I had lots of 'messy' fun but please don't
let the 'messy' put you off using shaving foam in your creativity.
It's the kind of 'messy' that can easily be cleaned up and it enables
you to create some really unique and interesting prints to use in your
art.
