Hi everyone, Sarah Anderson here.

Well, what an absolute treat these stamps and stencils have been to play with.  They all co-ordinate so beautifully together that I couldn't help but combine sets in my samples.  I can see me using the frames set all year round, both on cards and in my planner, as well as all the stencils.  And I now have a head start on my Christmas cards!

Tonight I'm sharing with you my first foray into using PaperArtsy Rusting Powder, which has been on my shelf since I purchased it about a year ago.  The frames just screamed 'rust' at me and I discovered how easy that powder really is to use! 

Let's take a look at the sets in more detail and some ideas to get your muse ready for Christmas early!

'Fir Cone in the Snow' by Sarah Anderson

Raquel's stamps are exquisite in their detail and make fantastic focal points for a card.  I adore snowflakes (and my handmade cards for friends and family always feature snowflakes!) and those in the stencil are a perfect size for these stamps.

This card came about because I had stamped the fir cone, fussy cut it out and left it on my desk.  My desk isn't the tidiest and it lay on a card I'd made for a previous PaperArtsy post using Distress Oxides - et voila, the background was sorted! 

'Merry Christmas' by Sarah Anderson

Versafine inkpads are perfect for fine detail stamps like this, and allow you to use other inks, such as Distress Oxides, to contrast the sharp detail with smudges of colour.

I'm also going to apply this holly design to tags for my Christmas presents this year.  It's such a quick but extremely effective pattern.

'Christmas Bauble Tag' by Sarah Anderson

'Merry Christmas' fits beautifully in this bauble; how fabulous would it be to write a name inside, in fancy writing, to be used in your Christmas wrapping?  

These baubles make me think of traditional glass ones and I'd love to decorate some more with colours used in the fifties such as pink and pale blue.  I adore the tinsel stamp too, it's so fine and I suspect could be used with green ink to convey the idea of evergreen branches.

'Stars' by Sarah Anderson

What is wonderful about both this stamp set, and the next, is that you can use them all year round!  This stamp would make a fantastic card on the theme of the star of Bethlehem for Christmas, but works equally well as a star for all kinds of other themes too.

The beauty of these stars is that they contain lovely detail to give a 3D effect alongside open space.  This allows the texture, created by using Distress Oxides over PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk paint, to 'shine' through.

'Ornate Frame' by Sarah Anderson

A couple of things came to mind when I saw these beautiful ornate frames.  The first was that I'd like to use one in the style of some mixed media scrapbookers who combine layers of papers, images and texture.

Again, the detail in these stamps, and their beauty, mean they make great focal points.  I'm planning on playing around with the corner stamp on some deli paper or masking tape to make my own washi tape.

'Stag' by Sarah Anderson

If, like me, you have a bottle of PaperArtsy Rusting Powder that you've rarely used, make sure you try it with this stamp set.  All you need is a Versamark inkpad (or similar), Rusting Powder and a spray bottle filled with water and white vinegar.  Stamp, sprinkle and spritz and you're away.

Raquel's wreath stencil, used as a stamp, creates an amazing damask-like background and co-ordinates beautifully with the idea of a Scottish country estate evoked by these frames alongside the stag image from the first stamp set.

These stamps and stencils have been an absolute delight to use.  You really are in for a treat.  I'll be sharing some more information over on my blog on how I achieved some of the effects on these cards.  And I'll certainly be playing with these stamps and stencils for a long time to come! I have my eye on that months stencil for both my planner and a spot of notebook making :)

2017 #12 Hybrid Inks: Paint and Ink {by Sarah Anderson}

I stalk Sarah on instagram to see what she is up to on her 365 daily creations, and this year, Oxide Inks have featured heavily! Which is why I was excited to see what she came up with for a Fresco-Oxide mash up. No matter what she produces, I am often left with as many questions as answers, and her comment that you need to just play and explore is very true! Find you own oxide-style! Jump in and have a go!

Hi everyone, it's Sarah Anderson with you today, and I'd like to share with you the results of playing with Distress Oxides on Fresco Chalk Acrylic Paints.

As you know, Distress Oxides are a combination of opaque pigment ink and translucent dye ink, which means you can get the lovely distress ink effects on dark paper such as kraft or black card.  This made me wonder what would happen if I created my own coloured paper using Fresco Chalk Acrylic Paints.  I warn you now, this is highly addictive!

My play resulted in a greeting card...

and a number of tags!

Whenever I want to try out a new technique, or product, I get out my sketchbook.  This gives me the opportunity to play and explore, and make notes on what works and what doesn't.  It also means it doesn't matter if things go 'wrong' as it is just something to learn.  If you've not tried this I would definitely recommend it.

The Distress Oxides change shade depending on the colour they are used on.  Distress Oxide (Wilted Violet) on Fresco Chalk Acrylic Paint (Turquoise) gives this gorgeous blue-ish purple.

After applying the ink to an acrylic block, spritzing it with water, then tapping it onto the painted tag, I discovered that applying the ink directly to the tag itself was much quicker and more effective.

With the first spritz of water, the ink oxidised as expected, but with the second spritz (and more) the ink became more and more speckled.  I find I have my heat gun in one hand and my water spray in the other when I'm playing with Distress Oxides!

The Distress Oxide inks behave differently on paper/card painted with Fresco Chalk Acrylic Paint.  Can you see where I've stamped the stars using Distress Oxide (Broken China)?  I didn't spritz these with water, just heated them with a heat gun, yet parts of them changed colour.

I played with stamps from the Electica {Lin Brown} Collection (ELB29 and ELB30)...

...and Fresco Chalk Acrylic Paint (Mushroom, Turquoise, Amethyst) and Distress Oxides (Peeled Paint, Cracked Pistachio, Wilted Violet, Walnut Stain, Fired Brick, Fossilised Amber, Faded Jeans, Broken China).  

I love how the dotty circle looks, stamped in Distress Oxide (Broken China) and layered over the purples and greens.

Using Versafine (Onyx Black) to stamp the main images really makes them pop against these colourful, textured backgrounds.

I can't wait to see what Distress Oxide (Antique Linen) does on these painted backgrounds. Or what about Distress Oxide (Black Soot) with embossed white main images?  I absolutely adore these inks as they encourage play in order to find out what effects they make, and combining them with Fresco Chalk Acrylic Paints has just widened my playground enormously.  There are so many colour combinations!  Where will you start?
