Pop-Up Card with JoFY products Halloween {by Etsuko Noguchi}

Hi everyone, nice to be back with you again
Etsuko My favorite things here with you today.

This year on the blog, we have free rein to do a deep dive into a PaperArtsy product ranges of our choosing. For this post I have been exploring JOFY's products.

Today I'm looking forward to sharing with you what I figured out when working out how to combine her cute Halloween design using 'Pop-Up Card' techniques.

For this project, I decided to use Mattints for the characters, and I added highlights with coloured pencils.

I'm sure you're all looking forward to JOFY's wonderful Christmas stamps and stencils, which are released every year. However, this time I decided to use the Halloween stamp set that I had been interested in for a while, thinking that combining its cute characters, tools, and words with the recently released monster series would create a new kind of fun, so I used it for this project. Since this project focuses on characters,  These stamp set are JOFY stamp set 141 and 83 (JOFY141 and JOFY83). and PaperArtsy Stencil by JoFY (PS461, PS410 and PS309). I used Mattints for colouring. From the left edge of the photo - PaperArtsy Mattints- Ash, River Deep, Greenstone, Bellflower, Glow, Hight Viz and Ladybug. Also I used PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic - Turquoise (Seth Apter), Steel Grey (Seth Apter), Little Black Dress. For the papers Smoothy (Heavyweight) A4 white stamping card. And highlighted with coloured pencils. (I'm sorry that the lower part of JOFY83 is not visible. I will upload the entire image in the photo below.)

First, create the main pop-up base, prepare three pieces of paper as shown in the photo. The thick brown craft paper at the bottom is a 16 cm square. The second (white paper) and third (Black) papers  are the same 13 cm squares size, , with 2 cm left on the top, bottom, left and right sides, and cut out a 9 cm square in the centre of the paper.

Next, I will make a pop-up stand to display the doll and other items. First, cut out three pieces as shown on the white paper on the left. I painted mine Little Black Dress, but you can use any colour you like. An enlarged view of the white paper is shown in the figure below.

This is the zoomed photo of the pop-up stand dimensions, the red lines indicate cutting and the dotted lines indicate folding.

After cutting the red line, fold both ends as shown in this photo. I coloured the adhesive parts that in red and blue for clarity.

From here on, my explanation may not be sufficient, so I will provide the URL of the original site. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPIwatzqCyo Pop Up-Tutorial by Duncan Birmingham

Attach the pink part of the pop-up stand to the back of the 13 cm square white frame. (In this photo, there are two pop-up stands, but in reality, all three are glued together.)

Next, the white frame upside down and only glue the blue parts to the craft paper base. When doing so, place the white frame in the centre of the craft paper, leaving a 1.5 cm margin on all sides.

Seen from the side.

Align the base of each ornament with the base of the stand and glue them together. If the base protrudes, it will hit the craft paper and not stand up properly.

Pull the white paper forward and the ornament will rise up. Success!

The main characters of the ornament are three characters, one of whom is Dracula. I used the JM52 boy mini stamp for him and added hair and a cape. I used Mattints - Hight VizLadybugRiver Deep, and Ash for colouring and added coloured pencils for highlights.

When creating the latter two characters, I made some changes to their specifications. At this point, the pop-up panel was already complete and the photos had been taken. While editing, I noticed a mistake in the photos and was surprised to find that the two characters had become twins with the same face... Sorry, I'll continue as is.

I lightly painted the pages of the book with a mixture of Seth Apter's new colours, PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic - Pumice and Snowflake, to create a worn-out base, and then added two or three items.

I stamped images of JOFY83's large pot, the cross grave marker, and the gravestone behind the girl onto book pages, coloured them with Mattints Ash, Shadow and Glow, attached card stock to the back, and cut them out.

Pumpkins are essential, so I searched for JOFY stamps to see if there was anything good, and I found this JOFY37. What do you think? I think they're great! Apply Tango and Nougat to the Stamp Heavy Card and to create the face by a black gel pen. So I placed them around the large pot.

I doodled ghosts and bats and arranged all the ornaments on three stands each. I tried several times to create a cool layout when they were raised.

I stamped three kind of the stamps Seth Apter mini stamp - EM54 and EM40 and JOFY83 onto 16cm square the craft paper. Also I make two 3 cm wide strips of the craft paper, stamp them with the same stamp, glue them to the front and back of the white frame, and pull the stand.

As shown in the photo, glue the strips to the front and back of the white frame, and attach a slightly larger black piece of paper to the back of the 16 cm square craft card.

Finally, I made a decorative frame to hide the strips. At first, I planned to use a turquoise blue frame and made a few, but when I assembled the whole thing, it didn't quite fit. So, I created a pattern on the Little Black Dress using PaperArtsy Stencil by JoFY (PS410) star stencil in Steel Grey (Seth Apter), and added Turquoise (Seth Apter) to the outside of the frame. The result was very satisfying.

The first two photos show the finished product before and after pulling the strip. Even a pop-up card with just one character is sure to be enjoyed by families with small children, so please give it a try. I had so much fun using JOFY stamps that I decided to make tags using the same characters for Halloween. I hope you enjoy today's project.

I used PaperArtsy Stencil by JoFY - PS329 to gel-printed gradient dots in Turquoise, Purple Wine  (Tracy Scott), Cerise (Tracy Scott), and Lemon Meringue on black paper for the background of the cards and tags. I used JOFY83, JOFY141, Jofy Mini Stamp JM85, JM86, and PS461 stencils for each card and tag layer. I used the same Mattints as for the pop-up card to colours the characters.

Thank you so much for stopping by.

A note from Leandra:
This release is a continuation of Nicci's Alice and Friends release, with some more characters here to explore. Who doesn't love a bit of Tweedledum and Tweedledee! And the Mad Hatter with his millinery
expertise will have you in stitches! There is also the Halloween girl of the moment, with her gothic-punk vibe and plenty of attitude

Nicci will be along to share with you LIVE her new products and ideas over in our Facebook Group, 'PaperArtsy People' just after this post publishes. The replay will be pinned as a featured post and to Nicci's guide over in PaperArtsy People.

Eclectica³ Nicci Battilana Set 19 (ENB19)

She's going to become a fast favorite, those expressive hands add so much character with a tilt of the head, and flick of the wrist, she can be sassy or quizzical, or a dancing queen.

 Queen of Expression

She's got all the moves ...

In this set you will notice there are a few options with hands, arms, and it is pretty fun and easy to bring her to life by using mini brads or french knots with waxed thread to bring her to life.

You could also edit the shape of her mouth too, although I'm not sure she is much used to smiling! She's giving moody teenager vibes! We have all experienced those....lol.

What music do you think is her favorite?

The cool kid at the party!

Up to no good ....

She's definitely up to something ... wandering the neighbourhood in the shadow of the night with attitude ...

The eerie moonlight catches on the bats who are following her every move...

What is going on here ... fish food ??? ..... perhaps not !

You can see she is cooking up a plan! Or maybe she is waiting on someone to arrive...

Eclectica³ Nicci Battilana Set 20 (ENB20)

The Mad Hatter milliner, with his iconic price tagged hat has plenty of pins and needles close to hand (or is that hat!). Stitches, threads, buttons and scissors are his trade tools of course!

 Mr. Hatter

With his bushy eyebrows and flamboyant style, our Mad Hatter is certainly a bit of a head-turner! Just check out those hat pins!

The frame stamp makes a wonderful border to the niche behind inside which our character sits.

The expression of an older gentleman filled with whimsy warms my heart, as I hope it does yours. His warm face tells the story of someone that has had many adventures and they would love to sit down and share them with you over a cup of tea.

The Joyful Elements of a Sewing Room

Thimbles, bobbins, spools and buttons... oh my! With this stamp set I wanted to bring in many fun elements for those of us that also like to sew or even cross stitch. With the Royal Linen Thread stamp you can create a fabulous collection of your threads to bring with you on art adventures!

The doily collar frame is easy to expand and make larger by adding in a few daisy buttons, spools of thread and more!

Who does not LOVE a 'HANDMADE' label or tag? This special one showcases our fussy cutting scissors, teeny tiny bats , elegant daisy flowers and a dot of a skull or two!

Eclectica³ Nicci Battilana Set 21 (ENB21)

As part of the 'Alice and friends' series, this stamp set with the tweedles was a clear favorite to add to my line ...

 The Tweedles

Everyone loves a bit of Tweedledum and Dee, in this journal spread you can see they are up to something ...

Did you spot Dee's slippers nestled in among the flowers ??

Dum has a surprised expression. If you wipe the ink away from his 'mouth' before stamping, you can easily edit this expression to something else, practise with pencil until you create an expression that suits your spread.

One of the 'butter' flies is putting in an appearance ...

The flower heads (sounds like a girl band) are here to brighten up your day, lots of colouring and layering options with these beauties!

But who is missing ????

Ahh, yes, the Cheshire cat! Look at that grin!

Large Size: 6.25" x 9.5" (16 x 24cm) Price: RRP €6.58 +VAT

PaperArtsy Stencil 404 (PS404)

It's a little bit spooky - Halloween will be here before we know it, so here are wax (or paint) drips, random marks, plus a typical 'Nicci' swirl.

Drip Drop

These stencil drips are a wonderful drippy element to frame a page

ohhhh a wax seal! Always adds authenticity to any spooky invitation.

The criss-cross marks add a cool texture on the lower section of this page

PaperArtsy Stencil 405 (PS405)

The Mad Hatter's job is to make hats, so this stencil is like a stitch sampler. You can make frames, borders or backgrounds using this design.

Stitches

This is all part of a single journal background, with the stitches oriented various directions, stencils are often a nice starting point for any journal page

The designs could be layered with a contrasting colour on top, red or orange, or the stencil used as a template with a fine tip pen to trace the designs for more definition.

The Hatters Shop & Store Window decorations.

Who says that a store front is best decorated with wood slats or bricks? Bring on the love with our cute little stitching elements. Hearts, daisies, spirals, cross bones and more!

Sometimes a subtle little mark here and there is more powerful than a filled page.

In this sample I doodled through the inside of the daisy border stitch followed by filling them in with a dash from my white paint pen.

PaperArtsy Stencil 406 (PS406)

A script stencil is the perfect background for any journal page, with dark or light color paint, texture paste, there are lots of options. A design like this always adds interest to page layers.

 Word Frame

Tone on tone gives a subtle background effect made with this script stencil.

Bats are added with ink, and the focal image sits over the background

Abstracted

This stencil also works as another layer of many in a journal page background, you could orient it vertically for more of a pattern and a less 'legible' effect.

With these new sets and many of my previous ones, you can now tell the story of Alice in Wonderland in your journals or event create a haunting 3d sculpture to decorate with for Halloween!

I hope that I have inspired you to create and cannot wait to see your finished projects!  ðŸ¤© Please feel free to share them in the PaperArtsy People facebook group as well as in my facebook group, Nicci's un-tethered Artsy Unicorns!

Keep smiling & creating,
Nicci
