2015 Pretty In Pink {by Gillian Simson}

2015 Theme 5: Deconstruction

Hello everyone Gillian here with another take on our theme of "Deconstruction". There have been some wonderful interpretations of this theme so far. For tonight's project I have opted to recycle a plain old wooden box using some tissue packaging paper and some corrugated card.

I started out by sanding back a Wooden Domino Box that I had in my stash.

As you can see from the pic above the word "Domino" had a slight embossed effect to it, this was easily erased using a Sanding Block. I then applied several layers of Buff Fresco Paint.

Next, I began stamping images from the new designs JOFY32 and JOFY31 onto tissue paper {that had come in previous packaging} using Jet Black Archival Ink. Once dry I began colouring in the images on the reverse side of the tissue paper using Prawn. In parts of the images to achieve more depth I simply added more layers of Prawn. Once dry I then cut around the images and applied to the box using Matte Medium.

I came across these vintage tag/pennants [also in my box of tricks} which I distressed using Walnut Stain Distress Ink, at this stage I also blocked out previous text using Fresco Finish Acrylic Paint in Buff.

Next I cut a piece of Corrugated packaging to size, this would make the base for these little yummy treats {not that any were eaten in the process you understand}!!

The lid of the box had a raised circle grip {as you can see in pic 1}, this then gave me the idea to punch a hole through using my cropodile and then attach the tag/pennant with twine. Finally I edged the box in Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

 Below are some close ups of the finished box.

It has been fun appearing on this side of the blog again, I hope you are inspired to join in our challenge. Thanks for stopping by.

Ohhh yum!! I LOVE those little eggs!! And this is a such a cool box, when they've eaten the eggs, the recipient could use it for makeup brushes, paint brushes...all kinds of things! Love the tag too! ~Leandra (off in search of chocolate)

2015 #2 Textured Treasures {by Gillian Simson}

2015 Topic 2: Shiny Stuff

Hi everyone Gillian here, joining you this evening with a post about using different mediums and layering to create a Faux Metal Effect. I love this technique as it allows you to incorporate a variety of mediums to create the desired outcome. My project tonight started out as basic Paper Mache Letters.

Step One: I started out by giving the paper-mache letters a couple of base coats using Little Black Dress {Opaque} before going on to apply the Pewter metallic paint colour in the next step.

At this stage I also mixed some Little Black Dress with some Grunge Paste and applied some DIY Plasterers Tape to create my first layer.

The script stamp is from one of Sara Naumann's new stamp designs ESN13. Don't forget you can see the rest of Sara's new stamps in full this coming week here on the  blog!

Step Two: Next up I added a few thin layers of Pewter to bring in a more metallic sheen before adding some White Fire Treasure Gold. I then added some Treasure Gold Sapphire around the edges of the letters and over the textured areas.

Step Three: Next I stamped the star image from ESN13 using Archival Ink Jet Black onto tissue paper and cut out. I then adhered the stars with Gloss Glaze to the individual letters.

Step Four: At this point I continued to build up the layers of Treasure Gold, this time using Aquamarine until I was happy with the coverage. To add extra sheen take a dry cloth and buff over the entire surface area.

Step Five: I wrapped some beaded wire around the end of a paintbrush before attaching to the centre of the letter O.

Step Six: Finally I stamped a quote from ESN13 again onto Tissue Paper, trimmed, edged with a graphite pencil and adhered accordingly using Gloss Glaze.

I hope I have inspired you to dig out those little pots of jewelled gold wax, play along and enter our challenge. Treasure Gold is such a beautiful and easy medium to work with and the results are fabulous.

Until next time!

Pennant Trio {with Hot Picks Xmas Stamps} By Gillian Simson

Hello everyone, Gillian here. Hope you are all enjoying the wonderful inspiration here on the blog so far this month. I'm delighted to be making another appearance this side of the blog, with a quick fun project. For tonight's project I'm using the new Hot Picks Xmas designs which I adore for their non traditional xmas look ..... (Yes I know Bah Humbug)!

I started out by painting 3 MDF Pennants with Slate, then applied a layer of Crackle Glaze and finally a top layer of Chalk.

What I love about Crackle Glaze is how each piece turns out differently depending on how you apply your layers {I used a Palette Knife and a Paintbrush}.

I stamped the block "Reindeer Names" image from HPXmas05 onto two of the Pennants using Archival Ink Jet Black.

 I then stamped the middle Pennant with a further image from HPXmas05 using Archival Ink Watering Can. Next I used images from EDY03 which I painted with Cherry Red and Turquoise.

EDY03

Finally to finish off I applied Slate to the edges and some Baker's Twine. What to do as I had two different size Pennants left .... waste not want not right! Here's a mini version of the above using the same supplies.

That's it from me for another night, I hope you are able to try this project out for yourself. You could easily use cardstock to create the Pennants, so what are you waiting on:) Don't forget to link up to the November challenge to be in with a chance of winning a £50 voucher to spend online. Until next time.

~Gillian~

Box Canvas { Using Eclectica³ Stamps by Gillian Simson}

Hi everyone, Gillian here {don't all thud to the floor in shock lol}. I hope you are enjoying the new semester as much as we are so far. We have some fab Guest Designers coming your way over the next few weeks .... best say no more {lips sealed}!! Anyway I have been allowed sneaked out *cough* from behind the scenes to have a little play.

Tonight's project simply consists of building up the layers and stamping ...

I've used the "Bumped Technique" as shown HERE using the Mini Brocade 6x6 Crafters Workshop Stencil. The script stamp is from HP1303EZ followed by some splatterings of Snowflake and Little Black Dress.

The main images are from the Eclectica Collection using EDY09, EEV01 and ESN09. I randomly applied some of the above paints using an old credit card to a piece of Smoothy White Stamping Card before stamping the feathers using Archival Ink Jet Black.

I've used the left over painted card to stamp the quote from ESN09 and then over stamped the stenciled layer using the "lines" image from ESN11

To finish I've simply added some wire netting, a metal embellishment and of course more Snowflake splatterings

I hope you have enjoyed tonights project and are inspired throughout this month to join in with any of our designers in our new monthly challenge. It sure has been good being back this side of the blog.

Live Work Create {with Hot Pick Stamps by Gillian Simson}

"Hi everyone, Gillian here with tonight's project using the lovely new Hot Pick designs, a little bit of crackle paste and some warm Fresco colours in the hope it might encourage the sun to shine {you can always live in hope!}"

I applied some Golden Crackle Paste through Mini Specimens 6x6 Crafters Worshop Stencil using a palette knife onto the Wooden Heart. Once dry I painted a base coat with Chalk Fresco Paint.

I then spritzed the wooden heart with diluted Fresco Paints from the Mini Spray Bottles in the following colours London Bus and Zesty Zing until I was happy with the colour graduation. dry thoroughly before going onto next step.

Next I stamped the swirls from EEV02 directly onto the wooden heart using Black Archival Ink.

I applied some Spanish Topaz Treasure Gold to the Crackle Paste Stencil.

Now to work on the smaller of the two Wooden Hearts. I applied some more Golden Crackle Paste this time applying a thicker layer as to create more texture. Once dry, I spritzed Tango and Zesty Zing.

I used the script stamp from HP1303 in Black Archival Ink to add some layering and then splats of diluted Snowflake.

Next I stamped the butterfly image from HP1301 onto some Smoothy White Stamping Card which had been coloured using London Bus, Tango and Zesty Zing. I applied some twine to the centre of the butterfly before adhering to the smaller heart.

Stamp Live Work Create image from HP1301 onto left over Smoothy Card and then trim. Now it's time to adhere the smaller of the two hearts to the centre of the large heart. I then added the resin bird from Prima which I edged with some Spanish Topaz Treasure Gold.

And finally a close up of the textured bottom half of the heart ... love the colour and texture.

It's been a pleasure making a brief appearance on this side of the blog. I hope you will join in this weeks challenge, all our designers have some fab projects/techniques to share.
