NEW PaperArtsy Stamps: July 2019 {Hot Picks}

 Hot Picks Collection
July 2019 New Product Announcement

A note from Leandra:
Mark always comes up trumps when I nag him enough to design some new stamps! To be fair, he is always juggling all the other designer, so for him to find a space to knuckle down to doing some himself is always a challenge. Once he gets started he is fine, its just getting him in the zone! Lauren has weaved her magic wand over them beautifully! Lots to enjoy here!

Hi everyone, Lauren here and I'm super excited to share with you Mark's newest Hot Picks release for PaperArtsy. 2 stamp sets and I can honestly say these are two of my favourite Hot Picks releases EVER! I had an absolute ball with them and I know you will too.

Today you will see ideas with these stamps from me. You can also see plenty of activity on PaperArtsy's Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest. (links at the foot of this post) So no matter what your preferred social media platform, we will be sharing with you!

Let's check out these new beauties, some ideas from each set and a couple of projects.

Hot Picks Set 1903 (HP1903/ HP1903EZ)

I just LOVE these stamps! So much so, in fact that I was only supposed to do one sample for each stamp set but I ended up doing extra. I literally could not put them down. The moon, or planet stamp is going to be SO useful! There are so many great moon and planet related quotes and so many amazing techniques for creating gorgeous skies. I really can't wait to play around some more with this set.

Which Planet Are You On? (HP1903EZ)

I thought this one stamp from the set looked so good just heat embossed with black ink over the top of a cool background.  It almost looks like a wax seal and it was so quick to do. These great images really do go all the way from clean and simple to full on grungy!

 Shine! (HP1903EZ)

Hot Picks Set 1904 (HP1904/ HP1904EZ)

Be still my beating heart! I had a great time colouring this but I know it would also look really great stamped over a really nice background. The image is so strong and so striking; AND there's a butterfly! I LOVE a butterfly! The little tape measure image really is a favourite and started me off thinking about measuring things like time. The small one, as you can see, is perfect to make a butterfly body. What can I say? It HAD to be done!

The Butterfly Counts Moments (HP1904EZ)

Beware! I am Fearless! (HP1904EZ)

So, as I said, I really just couldn't stop! These images are just so great and this girl would work so brilliantly with set HP1903 too! Halloween is around the corner and she will be great for that, but I couldn't help think of a fantastic quote by the wonderful Mary Shelley. "Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful."

Project One: A Cool Technique Using Infusions and Distress Ink on Glossy Card

Ok, so a slight cheat but this technique is SO easy and SO flippin' cool that it needed to be shared. I needed a bit of a sexy night sky to go with my planets and I had half an idea in my head about the way glossy photo card works. It basically sucks pigment in and fixes it PLUS it reacts with water to form water marks.... I used this technique in some way, shape or form in all my projects. I love the way it works.

First I sprinkled some Raspberry Infusions onto a piece of glossy photo paper (I used an inexpensive brand called Maxi that works with ink jet printers). Spritz with a modest amount of water in the usual way and then carefully dried it with a heat tool. I quickly found that if you hold the heat tool too close or too still the coating on the paper bubbles and bursts. It IS quite a good way to add texture but not the effect I was going for here.

Now you choose your Distress Ink (Distress Oxide not an option here because it covers up your Infusions). I used Chipped Sapphire. I dabbed the pad onto my glass mat a few times as you really do want quite a lot of ink, and then used a piece of cut and dry to blend the ink onto the piece of glossy card.

What you find is that the Infusions AND the water you sprayed on the paper act as a kind of resist. The ink glides over the top and stays glossy on the card. You get the most amazing effects. You can obviously use whichever colour combinations you wish. I used this one for a sky and then tried Spiced Pumpkin and Fossilized Amber on my other projects.

And finally buff the card with a dry cloth to remove any excess ink and you are ready to add whatever you like next. If you buff with a damp cloth you will remove some of the brown and get a cleaner, brighter end result. I did find if you stamp on it you are best to either use StazOn OR to use something like Versafine Clair and heat emboss to fix it.

So "WHERE is the project?" I hear you cry...

I used the background above to make a postcard. I stamped the moon with white Brilliance Ink and then heat embossed with white embossing powder. The butterflies are from the girl on HP1904 and the sentiment is a quote from EAB11. I DID try embossing the butterflies on vellum using white embossing powder so that they looked like moths. It looked great but, well, I love to colour so I did....

I loved this technique so much that I did end up using it on nearly all my projects. I made small pieces of card and much larger pieces using the same technique and it all worked the same. I was able to use one large piece as a border for one of my larger cards and you can see I die cut some smaller circles to use as a border along the edge.

Phew! That's me done! I hope I've given you some ideas and I'm certain you will have loads of ideas of your own bubbling away in those crafty noggins. A big BIG thank you to Mark and Leandra for letting me loose on these amazing stamps. I had such a blast with them. There just isn't enough time or space to go through all the great things you could do with these stamps, but if you do what I did and start off writing a list of your favourite quotes about the moon and planets - I got to about 20 - that will give you a start. NEXT write down your favourite quotes about fierce women, and THEN go through Alison Bomber's amazing stamps for fabulous quotes.  Like me, you will quickly see that you are NEVER going to run out of ideas for ways to use these amazing new stamp sets. Now what are you waiting for? Go get 'em....

Two absolutely cracking new sets from Mark - both are must-haves for me, especially after seeing Lauren's incredibly beautiful samples. I adore the Richter postcard... could there be a better interpretation of that quote?!
