2016 #22 Alcohol Ink Canvas {by Kate Yetter}

 2016 Topic 22: Alcohol Inks and Pens

Hello everyone, Kate here, joining you this evening with a post featuring Alcohol Inks and Markers.

Step One: I started this project with an entirely different outcome in mind. My original canvas had a more colorful background but after creating my acetate I decided to go in a whole new direction. I used a white canvas and added a torn sheet of cork paper. Gesso was added to the edges and in random places to help it blend in better.

Step Two: A sheet of acetate is the base for my alcohol ink application. I used a distress ink applicator to apply the alcohol inks to the acetate as well as dropping some drops directly from the bottle.

Step Three: My main image was stamped onto cardstock and Distress Markers were used with water and a paint brush to fill in the image. Later on, before adding it to the canvas, I went in and doodled with a black pen and highlighted with Frescos Gold Paint.My image is the Carousel horse from LPC 019

Step Four: My favorite part is layering all of my papers and embellishments. I added a few layers before adding the acetate. I love how you can see underneath to the layers beneath.

I was excited about this theme because it has been a while since I broke out my Alcohol Inks. As my Distress Markers are a regular addition to all my projects featuring detailed images, it was easy to incorporate them into my project. These techniques would be a great technique to add texture to any card or project.Plus it’s easy! I hope you give it a try.

Thanks Kate for sharing your process, fabulous layering. The alcohol inks are stunning on the acetate and being translucent and showing the text through from behind looks great. Adding the Lynne Perrella horse just makes it look magical. ~Darcy

I haven't used alcohol ink in ages either, love Kate's project. As Darcy says, great layering.

Yes layering the clean alcohol ink colours over the rest of the project, adds interest without hiding anything. I need to remember that idea! Lovely piece from Kate.
