Hello everyone! Alison here, and I'm thrilled to be back here at PaperArtsy in what will (hopefully) be a pretty regular appearance.
I started with one of the Heavy Greyboard plaques and an idea about creating a sort of eroded look for my background. I dabbed a bunch of paints onto the board (Limelight, Hey Pesto, Bora Bora, Beach Hut, South Pacific and Inky Pool), and then stippled them around using the very top of the paintbrush bristles.
I tried to leave some spaces bare of paint, particularly around the sides. I succeeded at the edges, but less so in the middle because I'd put so much paint on in the first place!
Once that was dry, I blended Rusty Hinge, Vintage Photo and Gathered Twigs Distress Inks over the top, and then wiped it away from the paint surface, leaving the ink just in those bare spaces.
... onto book pages that had been coated in Inky Pool. They were stamped in Sepia and then clear embossed. The Inky Pool is translucent, so you still get to see the text, but in the end, this was too dark to see the image well so I did it again onto a page that had Inky Pool and Limelight mixed together.
You can see that in the end I used the Inky Pool versions as a border around my paler Limelight/Inky Pool versions.
I'd originally embossed the sentiment directly onto my mottled paint background and embossed it in Copper, but when it came to adding the UTEE to the whole thing, the Copper melted a bit and went a bit blurry so, heart in mouth, I stamped onto the glossy UTEE surface with Forest Green Staz-On. It worked okay, and I filled in some of the gaps with a PITT pen. I quite like the shadowed version I have now!
I stamped some of the gears around the edges in Sepia Archival, and you can also see where the translucent Distress Inks come through in contrast to the blue-greens.
I also went glossy on my embellishments. I used the Inky Pool/Limelight combination again to add colour to some of them first, and then everything got a good coating of UTEE.
What can I say, I was in a glossy kinda vibe!
Hope you enjoyed that... and I'll see you again soon. Alison.
A huge thank you to Alison for this project from PaperArtsy HQ. How wonderful to have you back Alison and with a stunning piece. I'll admit to slightly drooling at all that luscious UTEE. Your shadowed sentiment works perfectly, nobody would ever know it wasn't intended...shhh, we'll keep your secret.
