GD: Julie Ann Lee - Renaissance Casket (Part 3)

Hello, Julie Ann back again with my final project of the week, thank you so much for stopping by to see more of the world inside my casket, I can't believe that is my first week up already. Tonight I'm going to share my creativity in how it all finally came together.

For this stage in my project I used LPC015 and LPC008. I wnated to add text, as this casket is a kind of mini journal.

I love the Eclectica plates for journalling and I intended to use Sara Naumann's ESN08, but in the end I fell in love with Lin Brown's new flower sentiments and I used ELB05 to create some found poetry. Here is a secret reveal of Lin's new stamps for 2014, they will not be available until February.

For my tiny tag book within a box I decided to use the smallest size of Manilla Tags #1, but when I looked at them closely, I thought they would be too small for the effect I wanted, so I went for the next size up Manilla Tags #2

I made a washy puddle on my brand new craft mat that I got for Christmas (this shows what a ‘newbie’ I am – my first craft mat!!!) I then swiped a couple of tags through Caramel, dried and then swiped through Guacamole and vice versa with another two.

For my fifth tag I painted with a generous coat of French Roast, allowed this to dry and then spread with a thin layer of Crackle Glaze. Finally I coated this in Guacamole and stamped it with Mini 98, the lovely feather. This became the inside cover of my tag book.

For my front cover I used the StencilGirl 6x6 Leaves in Hey Pesto over Guacamole, added some script from Mini 75, a Shrink Plastic flower and a little Prima Wooden Bird in flight – maybe one of his feathers went to make that quill? I also added a little punched out leaf.

I liked the way he appeared to be about to flutter from the box.

He also fitted well into the base of the box, appearing to be fluttering away in front of the topiary tree.

I stamped my other tags using Potting Soil Archival Ink, combining elements of the Lynne Perrella images with Minis 75, 31 and 84.

I edged my tags with dry brushed Chocolate Pudding, Florentine Treasure Gold and sprinkles of melted UTEE gold over a little Versamark to help it not to fly all over the place! To create my poem, which isn’t technically a haiku, but is veering in that direction, I painted some Smoothy White Stamping Card with Antarctic then sprayed with a mix of two or three drops of Antarctic; two or three drops of Inky Pool in half a mister bottle of water. I then stamped all the sentiments from ELB05 over this in Potting Soil Archival Ink. I cut and pasted my poem along with punched out leaves, giving – I hope – the impression of the ideas and the foliage flowing through the book.

‘When you look,
See a world...

Moments, the Hand of Heaven
   And eternity...’
On the reverse side, the sentiment reads: ‘Hundred wishes...’

... infinity.

I joined my tag book by punching little holes into the sides of the tags and threading them through with crochet twine, using a very large-eyed needle. The final tag was stuck to the base of the casket. It just remains to give a last look at the outside of my casket with a few final touches.

As you can see I added a smaller rose just in front of the butterfly. This is because initially that delicate little creature was too vulnerable all alone and came unstuck! Now he rests against the feather a little and is locked into place by the smaller rose. This meant I could cover more surface area with glue and keep him secure. I’ve also added a little scrap of text from my sheet of sentiments, ‘Wild Flower’.

Thank you so much for looking at the first posts of my first Semester. I’d love to know what you think of my Renaissance Casket and I hope that you will be inspired to play along and create your own little box of delights.

Julie Ann x

Leandra says: Wow it's adorable, so many small details, the tags look just stunning, such wonderful use of colour, I'm really loving the watery tones you get in the backgrounds too. A fantastic start to your semester Julie Ann!

Gillian Says: I adore how you have pulled it all together and how you have threaded the tags so they continually flow and tell the story. The colour palette is divine.

Well done Julie Ann, you triumphed as your casket and its contents are totally gorgeous! How wonderful that you are the first to showcase Lin's wonderful new stamps. I can never get enough wordy stamps and find it difficult to make any project without words on it somewhere. These will definitely be next on my wish list and I do wish I could get to Stevenage but it's too far :-(.

Well done for having the courage to put yourself out there and being such a total success.

Hugs
