Liz Borer Project #2 Seven Seas

So here is Liz Borer, back for another night of careful soft and subtle paint blending...enjoy!
I started with an MDF plaque that I had and painted it  with Antarctic Fresco Paint. Then, using a swirly stencil from my stash and Grunge Paste I stencilled lots of swirls in different directions to about half way up the plaque. I had to dry some swirls as I went along to avoid mashing them with the stencil.
The finished dried swirls.
Start adding some colour. Start with Lake Wanaka to about two thirds up blending it into the lighter colour at the top. Then using Space Cadet  blend from the bottom upwards to  create a change from light to dark.
Using Stone Fresco Paint stencil some light colour swirls over the grunge paste swirls.
Using darker translucent blue colours blend randomly over all the swirls so that the bottom of the plaque is much darker and the lighter colour swirls are softened. I started with Pea Coat and Inky Pool.
Start adding other colours and randomly blend them across the plaque. I used Eggplant and South Pacific. The idea was to get a variety of colours darker at the bottom and fading a little to the top.
Blend a little of the last two colours up into the lighter area .

Stamp the Ship from HP1202 onto tissue paper with black waterproof ink.

Carefully cut off the fish and stick the tissue paper to the plaque with Multi-Medium (matte). I stuck the tissue over the whole of the top to avoid the edges showing. Seal the tissue with another layer of Multi-medium (matte) and dry. To remove any overhanging edges I find gentle sanding gives a neat edge.

Add another Grunge Paste swirl over the boat and dry.

The Grunge Paste swirl needed to be blended into the background as did the ship so I used more of the translucent colours and blended them over the swirl and the ship.
Finally I rubbed gold Treasure Gold over the tops of the Grunge Paste swirls and around the edge of the plaque.
I stamped the figure from LPC001 ...
... onto a piece of card painted with Nougat and embossed the image with black embossing powder. {I am sorry I forgot to take pictures here} I then painted the figure with blue and purple paint and the background with Autumn Fire and a bit of Claret
I painted the die cut frame with Lake Wanaka  and rubbed Aquamarine and Classic Gold Treasure Gold onto it.  I stuck the picture to the back of the frame and attached it to the plaque with adhesive pads.
Here I used a die cut swirl ,which I  painted with Lake Wanaka and rubbed with Treasure Gold as before. I painted thick grey board with Nougat and then the colours I had used for the figure and stamped and embossed in back the words Seven Seas from HP1112.

I painted all the embellishments that I found in my stash with dark blue paint and when dry I rubbed Treasure Gold over them . Finally I stuck  everything onto the plaque.

Well that’s all for now folks, see you tomorrow.

Leandra Says: I adore how you have blended the paint so beautifully, and the stone 'swirls' on top of the GP swirls looks superb - would never think to do that! Beautiful details Liz.

Gillian Says: Love the details with the pearl drops and TG bellies! That LP stamp works perfectly. Beautiful piece.

If you are inspired by Liz's ideas this week, please join along with the weekly challenge. You can link up your creativity here and go in the 2 draws to win a prize, a stamp of your choice. We love to see what you make, so do get involved and perhaps try out something new.
