GD: Ellen Vargo #2 Art Journal Video {Part 2}

Hello again! Ellen Vargo here again to share part 2 of my art journal video series.  Thanks for all the lovely comments on yesterday's background video.

Today we'll be doing some collage work using stamps and map paper.  Here's another sneak of where we are heading by the end of tomorrow, but for today you will need some black archival ink, a few of my stamps, and perhaps an old map book.

Tonight you will learn a great way to use up those brayering painted leftovers!

And how to randomly add them to last nights BG for another level of interest.

Then we explore how adding some collaged atlas-scraps can change the whole composition yet again.

Are you ready? Let's get started!

Tomorrow we'll finish up the page with some lettering and paint pen embellishments... hope you'll come back and check it out,  See you tomorrow!

~ ellen.

Leandra Says: Well, I think we have a new video star here! It's fascinating to see you in action, and so nice to see how you bring it all together. Impatient to see tomorrow's now!

Gillian Says: Ohhh Ellen, I really love how those pods pop when you add them to yesterday's background, great toi see how you can use up those painted paper scraps!

If you would like to join in this week's challenge and play along with Ellen's techniques, then do link up your creativity here, and go in the draw to win some PA stamps of your choice! You need to link your entry by 17:00 (London time), Sunday March 23rd 2014.

Welcome Back GD: Ellen Vargo - Art Journal Video {Part 1}

Hi everyone! It's Ellen Vargo here, back again to share another project!

This time I'm trying something new (for me...) - videos!  I've video-taped the creation of an art journal page and broken it down into three sections.  Today we'll be working on the background, using the brayer and some stamping. Tomorrow we'll do some collage, and Tuesday we'll wrap it up with journaling and explore paint-pen embellishing ideas.

Here's a little sneak peak of where we're heading by Day 3... but today we'll just be working on the background which you can see below as the yellow/ blue stamped layer in this picture.

In this video I'll be showing you how I do the brayer technique that I have been using quite a bit this semester in my other posts to build up a background, you can see some screenshots below. It's nice to see it in real life, so go and check out the video. Without further ado.... let's get started with tonight's video!  Remember, this is my first video attempt so please be kind! LOL!

So to summarise the video, here's a reminder of what we did:

1. Building layers with Zesty Zing, Limelight, Beach Hut, South Pacific and Inky Pool, with a brayer.

2. Stamping with my stamps and various shades of blue Archival Ink. Archival is very suitable for use on top of acrylic paint. It dries fast, is permanent, and won't bleed when you add water or other wet media on top once heat set.

3. And the last step (for now) is adding snowflake for contrast with another of my stamps.

I used stamps from EEV02 and EEV03 in today's post.

So go ahead, get out you brayer, and start practising with your preferred colour combinations and stamped layers!

I hope you liked my very first video!  If you have any suggestions *please* feel free to share.  I'll be back tomorrow for Part 2 - Collage.  See you then!

~ Ellen.

Leandra Says: I love how you pick up the paint for the brayer from newsprint paper I think this gives you more control loading the brayer than from a slick surface such as a non-stick craft sheet, and of course you get great leftovers to work with that tone in with your project too! Well done Ellen, you sound very calm and collected for your first video!!

Gillian Says: Bravo on your 1st video attempt (you're a nautural) ... great to see how you prepare the background, look forward to seeing more.
