This all ties in beautifully with the Alison Bomber designer focus. A current blog theme is Nature, and it has tied that to this 3 things post too, adding another challenge into this project.

I have made an accordion style display with my supplies.

Let's take a closer look...

There is a major twist in my process this time but I'll start in my comfort zone, playing with the Slime and Olive Tree Infusions. I love dying different fabrics with mixes of Infusions. For this project I have mixed both colours into a mug of hot water, soaking white linen and natural calico overnight. Look how the same solution dyed the fabrics different colours!

Using dilute solutions of each pigment I have painted the stamped Mistletoe images from the Alison Bomber EAB29 stamp set, cutting around them, inking the edges and highlighting the berries with a liquid gloss.

After cutting the sheets of Grey Board in half I've hinged them together with a spacer tool.

I like to paint the board on both sides so the finished project looks complete from any angle.

After tearing panels from the lighter version of the dyed fabrics and sticking them to the front of the painted accordion I've spread a layer of PaperArtsy Grunge Paste over the top.

By spraying the text stamps from the EAB29 stamp set with water I can stamp into the Grunge Paste to add texture and detail. It's worth letting the paste dry a little before doing this for sharper results.

I thought blotting some dilute Slime Infusions and splattering paint on the dry surface would help to accentuate the stamping a little more than it has and at this point decided to make a big change.

Remembering a technique I learned from Raquel Burillo Perez, I've spread more Grunge Paste over a piece of mixed media card and stamped into it with the wet text stamps in the same way as before. This time I've rubbed a little of the Olive Tree Infusions powder onto the dry paste, spraying it with water and allowing the liquid to run down the paper. There's the drama I wanted all along! This can be chopped into panels and glued over the original splattered paste.

And in another plot twist I've re-painted the board using Baltic Blue Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint to add a stronger contrast between that and the dyed paper/card. I've also die cut some of the stamp images from the set to layer up with the mistletoe.

And here's the finished project!

Stamping the text in a contrasting ink helps it to stand out more whilst using thread the blue thread through the buttons gives a nod to the colour of the board.

Try stamping the tiny text in the set onto the card with a pale olive/brown ink for added detail.

It's both challenging and fun to start with 3 things and see where the journey takes you. And even if you get lost along the way, dipping into the treasure trove of techniques that have been shared on the PaperArtsy blog by so many talented creatives over the years can help to bring you to a successful conclusion.

I was happy to find these supplies in the package: Two panels of Grey Board, Alison Bomber stamp set 28 (EAB28) and 2 colours of Infusions Sleight Blue, Violet Storms.

Our most recent blog topic has been a Designer Focus on Alison Bomber, and going back before that was also the topic of WHITE, and the overarching current theme is NATURE. If I can tie these links into this '3 things' post, then that adds another challenge.

I always like to make swatches of the colors before I start.

Today I have made these two panels using all of the above product...... let's take a closer look.

I started off with applying a white heavy gesso randomly to the panels with a palette knife, and pressed into the texture with stamps, and a lid into the wet gesso. Tip is to gently mist your stamps with water to help them lift off the gesso. The texture is quite random, I let it dry naturally.

When dry, mist the panel with water, add crystals of the infusions to the top of the panel, mist it with water and let it run down the panel. That's it.

Believe me, less crystals is better! These guys pack some punch and you really only need the littlest of a sprinkle, you can always add more if you wish. 

I tried to emphasize the various colors of crystals in each color of Infusions.

After drying, stamp the foliage in black stamping ink, and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.

Add extra color to make the berries pop.

White paint splatters and splatters with the infusions adds interest!

... and of course some background stamping.

So, compare the two, and choose which one you like best.

My favorite is the one with more white surface... 

As you can see: just play.. see what works best, and with Infusions: the outcome is very unique and unpredictable...

Parts of the surface that was not covered with gesso, turned out darker, which makes sense as it was more porous allowing the infusions to grab and sink into exposed the grey board paper. Also the infusions collect in the textures created by stamping into the wet gesso.

Once you experience such differences, you can lean into exploring the effects you might prefer.

Ohhhh, blues AND brushes, don't know about you ... but I just want to reach out and touch this one!! Proof that Fresco Chalk acrylics can go onto any surface with ease! And just love how they extend off the canvas! Fabulous Alison! ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, it's Alison Hall (Craftytrog) here today, and I'd like to share with you a painted and stamped piece of hanging art, using PaperArtsy Ink & Dog stamps, and distressed paint brushes for decoration. It's messy art at its best, and was great fun to create!

I used an 8x8 inch piece of PaperArtsy Heavy Grey/White Board as my base and started by giving it a base-coat of white gesso. TIP: If you are putting a lot of paint onto a sucky surface like grey-board, it's a good idea to do this to both sides to prevent potential buckling of the surface.

Then, using Captain Peacock, Bora Bora and Seaglass PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics , I created a background.

As I was painting, I also decorated the paint brushes I wanted to use as the embellishments. In fact, I used those brushes to paint, as the stiff bristles created the lovely brush strokes that I wanted. This process was so much fun, I felt like a happy and carefree child messing up the brushes like this!

I really love white stamping on a blue background, so my next step was to stamp PaperArtsy Ink & the Dog: Words Plate 2 all over my base, with Snowflake Fresco Finish Acrylic Paint.

I also roughly stamped n the paint brushes to add more depth and another layer to them. By the way, it's important to clean the paint off stamps as soon as you finish, as it will stick fast!

For my next step, using Ranger Jet Black Archival ink, I stamped the bingo card corner image from Ink & the Dog: Man of Numbers Plate 5 around the edges of my base.

Then I randomly stamped 'Unique Art' from the same stamp plate, over my background. I also ran my ink pad around the edges of my artwork to create a frame, and a finishing touch for the base.

My base finished, I played around with the positioning of the decorated paint brushes, and decided the add some wording to the flat brush. To do this, I used Captain Peacock, Bora Bora and Seaglass Fresco Finish Acrylics again, to paint a piece of Regular White Smoothy Stamping Cardstock. Then I used Jet Black Archival Ink to stamp Ink & the Dog: Words Plate 2 a couple of times, cutting out and inking the edges of the letters I needed.

With my paint brushes all adhered to the base with Glossy Accents, I added some eyelets and a piece of chain to hang my artwork, then finished with white paint pen highlights on the stamped lettering, and some messy splatters of watered down Gold Fresco Finish Acrylic Paint all over.

I had the best time creating this piece of paintbrush art! The wood, metal and bristle textures of the brushes, combined with the paint strokes and splatters make my heart sing. It's definitely worth keeping those ruined brushes, you never know when you might need them. 2015 Theme 8: Sprays

Hi everyone Alison (Craftytrog) here, joining you this evening with a post about using Fresco Finish Paints to make paint sprays. I love making backgrounds, spraying with watered down paint, and creating lots of lovely drips. My background was inspired by a circular panel on the set of my favourite quiz show, QI...the one behind Stephen Fry :-) I thought that the lovely new Lynne Perrella ladies would look perfect in this setting.

Step One: My base is a sheet of Heavy Grey/White Board, measuring 5x7 inches. I gave the board a base coat of Snowflake Fresco Finish Paint, then I used Ranger Archival Ink in Coffee to repeatedly stamp the text and keys border from LPC032, all over the board.

Step Two: I took a couple of Small Spray Bottles, filled each bottle halfway with water, then added Yellow Submarine Fresco Paint to one, and Autumn Fire Fresco Paint to the other. The amount of paint I added came about halfway up to the level of the water. I shook the bottles well, and first sprayed the Yellow Submarine as a base, then sprayed the Autumn Fire, holding the board vertical to get some lovely drips. I added a little Brown Shed Fresco Paint to the Autumn Fire bottle, to create a darker shade, then spritzed this to the top of the board, then holding it vertical to get more drips.

Step Three: Next, I base-coated three little Tando frames with Brown Shed Fresco Paint. I then embossed them with some Frantage Aged Copper embossing powder. I repeated this step a couple more times, then whilst the final layer was still molten, I inked up the script from the Ink & the Dog Backgrounds - Plate 6 with Versamark Embossing Ink, and stamped into the molten EP. I added some Spanish Topaz Treasure Gold highlights to the embossing. Below you can see the three stages.

Step Four: I mixed some Haystack and Vanilla Fresco Paint together, then painted a piece of Smoothy Stamping Card with it. Using Coffee Archival Ink, I stamped the head & shoulders of the two ladies from LPC032, and one of the small images from LPC034.

Step Five: I cut the images out, and glued them behind the frames. I sprayed a little of the orange paint mix onto my Craft Mat, then added some colour to the ladies' faces with a paint brush. I later decided to add a little watered down Bora Bora Fresco Paint to their crowns, as a contrast colour.

Step Six: I added some Aged Copper embossing powder to the edges of my board, and also sprinkled a little over my background. I embossed some little metal corners, rubbed some Spanish Topaz Treasure Gold over them, and glued these to the four corners of the board. Finally, I glued my framed ladies to the background, adding some metal keys to finish.

I really love how my drippy background turned out, it was just the effect I was going for. And, stamping into embossing never fails to delight me.
