2021 Topic 13: Tiny (News) Print with EKC {by Lynn Good}

2021 Topic 13: Tiny (News) Print

It's not always obvious how people have created their art, so I love to read the process behind adding colour and texture. Lynn uses different text (both size, fonts and colour of book pages) and it really draws your eye into the vibrant piece and is a great technique to tuck away in your memory.
~ Keren

Hi everyone, it's Lynn with you today, and I'm here to share my interpretation of the topic Tiny (News) Print.

This is one of my favourite ways to create a background whether it be on canvas, in my art journal or even making cards. Each time it comes out a little different depending on the paper you use.

I first start by ripping up dictionary paper (this is my tiny (news) print!) I adhered it to the page using matte medium, covering the entire art journal page with the papers.

I then randomly painted the following colours onto a 12x12 Paper Artsy Super Smooth Heavy cardstock : Tangerine Twist, Zesty Zing, Bubble Gum, Dirty Lime and Red Lipstick.  Once dry I placed it into the misti so I could stamp the flowers.

Fresco Finish - Dirty Lime {Tracy Scott}   Fresco Finish - Tangerine Twist {Tracy Scott}Fresco Finish - Bubble GumFresco Finish - Zesty ZingFresco Finish - Red Lipstick

I used Stamp EKC48 by Kay Carley.  I like to stamp in the Misti stamping platform as you can re-stamp the image if it isn't clear enough.

Eclectica³ {Kay Carley} 48

I then fussy cut them all out!

At this stage I wanted to make the colours pop and used Prismacolour pencils over the top.
I then adhered them to the page using matte medium

I used a Stabillo All pencil to highlight and add a textured look to some of the paper joins as well as a shadow around the flowers.  I stamped some twigs coming up from the pot and round the layout.  I have added some white paint pen to the twigs.  I used a quote from stamp set EKC44 - "Its your time to bloom".

Eclectica³ {Kay Carley} 44

Once everything was dry I added some gel pens and glitter glue to the flowers - everything looks better with a bit of bling!!!

Here are some close up photos.

I hope you have been able to follow the process of making this page and give it a go yourself. I love the texture this page has with the dictionary pages, cut out flowers and glitter.

2020 #5 Mark Making: Subtle or Bold with ECF {by Nikki Acton}

2020 Topic 5: Mark Making

Nikki's wonderful cards are testament to the fact that with small changes in technique and a completely different palette, you can end up with strikingly different pieces. Her mark making doesn't detract from the layers underneath, they just augment the texture.

Hi everyone, Nikki from Addicted to Art with you today sharing 2 ideas using these fabulous stamps from Courtney Franich.  I just couldn't decide between subtle tones and bold colours - so went with both.

I knew straight away these stamps would be great on a gel-plate and for making masterboards - so this is where I started, with my subtle theme....

I made these 2 little A7 cards with some of my masterboards - which use the mark making stamps from stamp set ECF11. I used Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics in Blue Oyster, Chalk, Guacamole, Elephant and Koala.

I added a couple of colours to my gel-plate and used the large text stamp from the set randomly to remove colour before taking a print. I repeated this with different colours building up colour, sometimes over the top of another one.

You have to look closely to see the wonderful effects this gives - lots of depth with hints of text and blocks.

The band down the middle is a print on some screwed up tissue paper, adding an extra layer of depth and texture. You might recognise the wonderful leaves from ECF06 which I embossed onto vellum.

For my bold masterboards I took a couple of different approaches, firstly using a credit card to scrape colours into my card before stamping with paints over the top. I then returned to my gel-plate, again I added colours and stamped off the plate with the large script stamp but then stamped onto the plate with the other stamps in different colours. I allowed this to semi dry on the plate and then added some Chalk paint, brayered over it then finally took my print.

Again I turned these into little cards - mixing the colours to create some bold, patterned cards! A few die cut letters and a little flower finished these off nicely.

From my experiments these stamps are a winner! Great for gelli plate work and creating masterboards. I can also imagine using the smaller stamps for adding detail to the edges of projects (think Seth Apter style) or for creating wonderful texture stamped into grunge paste.
Enjoy!

Thanks for joining me today, I hope you have a creative week.

NEW PaperArtsy Products: Tracy Scott {January 2020}

 Eclectica³ Collection {Tracy Scott}
January 2020 New Product Announcement

Tracy has gone in a slightly different direction with this release, and created some rustic medallion elements, with a carved-stamp vibe that are wonderful when used as repeat patterns, wait until you see what she has created!

In addition there are 4 new paints, gorgeous vibrant colours, as I'm sure you would expect.

If you follow Tracy on socials, you will know all year she has been teaching a lot of journaling with hand-cut pages, allowing you to peek through the layers. With this in mind, she has created a blank book, pre cut, ready for decorating, we are calling it her lace book. We will have these available in March. Tracy is teaching with smaller versions of these in classes at Trade shows in January, make sure to follow her to see these in action!

 ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, Tracy here!

Wow I can't believe we are flying into January already!...I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy.

So I've decided to go in a slightly different direction again this time... well  I do like to keep you on your toes!

I do love the look of  hand carved stamp; the slightly imperfect vibe it gives really does appeal to me and I just adore the rustic look it gives to my journal pages and projects.

We all know that I love a repeating pattern so I thought why not combine the two and I have to say I am thrilled with the result.

I really wanted a rustic 'Mexican Tile' type vibe and I really do think that I achieved this with these 3 sets and co-coordinating stencils. It all worked out perfectly.

All of the designs came from stamps that I had hand carved some time ago. My carving skills are not great but I do like the less than perfect look so am fine with the results and wanted to keep that look when they were turned into rubber stamps. I do hope that you love them as much as I do....

I've also developed another 4 fresco colours to add to my existing collection and you will see some of these used in my samples.

Today you will see ideas with these stamps from myself. You can also see plenty of activity on PaperArtsy's Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest. (links at the foot of this post) So no matter what your preferred social media platform, we will be sharing with you!

Let's check out these new beauties, some ideas from each set and a couple of projects.

And of course the existing 16 shades in Tracy's line are as follows...

Eclectica³ Tracy Scott Set 36 (ETS36)

Most of you who follow me know by now that I love a cut page in my journal but look how fabulous this stamp set looks when used in combination with the black cut painted elements. It's just so bold and really does make a statement stamped on the simple painted and stencilled background... you really don't need anything else to give your backgrounds that 'wow' factor.
I've used this technique in my art journal but how fabulous would it look as a background for a stunning greetings card?

Eclectica³ Tracy Scott Set 37 (ETS37)

I am just loving how these stamps can be built into so many different patterns. Just by changing the orientation of the stamps, the possibilities really are endless.
On this journal page above I have only used one of the stamps in this set and look at the wonderful pattern it has created. And how about some of those lovely new paint colours? Here I have used the Dirty Lime, Ochre, Weathered Copper and one of my old favourites from the core collection -Twilight!.

And how about this above for a fabulous background idea.... Black archival ink stamped onto a page painted with Fresco Finish Little Black Dress Paint.... who would have thought the black ink would stand out against the black paint but it sure does give a really cool effect and actually shines. I love to use black pages in my journals and have had lots of fun using my stamps to create this wonderfully subtle effect which only appears as the light catches.

Eclectica³ Tracy Scott Set 38 (ETS38)

Again just using a couple of stamps over some of those fabulous new paint colours I was able to create a beautiful rustic patterned effect onto my journal page. I just can't emphasise how happy this makes me and every time you play with one of the stamps you come up with a different pattern or shape, I mean just look at the rustic flower that emerged in the middle of my design just by overlapping the stamps... who knew?
Plus a bonus is that because these stamps have a less than perfect vibe, they are perfect for us less than perfect stampers!
Just a little bit of white pen work brings the whole piece to life... what else could it possibly need?

New Stencils
Regular Size: 6.5" x 7" (16 x 18cm) Price:

RRP £4.60 + VAT

PaperArtsy Stencil 167 (PS167)

With just a couple of supplies I was able to create this stunning card. How beautiful does that new Ochre paint looks against the Picked Raspberry distress oxide stencilling? A little bit of shading with my Prismacolor pencils to pick out the pink and a few splashes of paint are all this background needed. A little pen work and some pre-stamped images from some of my older stamps sets and you are set to go...Perfect!

PaperArtsy Stencil 168 (PS168)

Sometimes you don't need a lot of layers and the simplest techniques can create wonderful artwork!

I find it really hard to stick to that concept and very rarely do I work on a plain white background, but I really did find that the design of this stencil filled up so much area that I actually didn't need lots of other stuff going on.

Repeatedly stencilling with distress oxides and then picking out some of the details with pen to make one area stand out from the rest was the perfect way to finish this card and of course I had to add paint splashes and a bit of script stamping... well complete minimalism is just not my thing!

PaperArtsy Stencil 169 (PS169)

Probably one of my favourite samples that I made for this release, simple and stylish but oh my... doesn't it have a real 'wow' factor about it?

I made this particular sample as a card but I am itching to expand on this idea and colour scheme in my journal and maybe even onto a home décor piece.

The stencil design is large enough to cover a big space with a small amount of time and effort so definitely think I will be using it much more for lots of different applications.

I just love that new Dirty Lime paint colour in the background against the blues and purples of the stencil, a little pop of glitter embossing powder and a few buttons from my stash and its all finished... I just might have to frame this one!

Project One: Rustic Mandala Love

Well anyone that knows me will already know that one of my other passions in art is Mandala making, whether they be drawn, painted or collaged. I just adore everything about them so imagine my absolute joy and squeals of delight when I started playing with a combination of the 3 stamps sets and this beauty started to emerge!...
White pen for detail work and Prismacolor pencils to add additional interest and I think I am addicted!
With so many different stamp combinations in these 3 sets the possibilities are going to be endless and I cant wait to play some more.

Project Two: Rustic Tiles Journal Page

So as I mentioned at the beginning of this post the whole concept of this release was a 'Mexican Tile' vibe so how could I not do a tile inspired journal page. I am totally in love with this page and am already planning to do this on a larger scale. I used a combination of the stamps from all 3 sets and they all coordinate perfectly together to give the cohesive and rustic tile look that I wanted. I created all of the tiles separately using a mix of paints and crackle glaze to give that worn look that suits these stamps so well.
And if you didn't think you had enough inspiration in this post already then I am going to leave you with just a few of the many patterns I've discovered whilst experimenting with these stamps. Wouldn't some of these make fabulous collage papers too!...

Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope you have found lots of inspiration and are itching to get started with the new stamps. I hope you love them as much as I do and I can't wait to see what you come up with in your creative play.
