2018 #6 Bunting: Counting Sheeples with ZA {by Chris Cresswell}

2018 Topic 6: Zinski Sheeple Bunting

Hi everyone, it's Chris Cresswell here from Loopsandlines with you today, and I'd like to share with you my response to the current challenge on Bunting and Banners, using the lovely, quirky, whimsical stamps designed by Elenazinski Art for Paperartsy.

I was really pleased to be given this opportunity to create a banner using one of Elena's new stamp sets as I wanted to make something for the nursery for my littlest grandfairy. She is 18 months old so I wanted to make something bright and whimsical for her room, and Elena's quirky sheep are just perfect! I think she will love it. I hope you do too.Yet again, I started with one idea then added a further idea as I went along.

This ended up so long, more than two metres, that I found it difficult to find somewhere to take a photo of it at full spread. Thus, a quick nip into the garden between showers! I started by die-cutting nine circles. I chose this shape due to the round shape of the quirky sheep.

The colours I chose to use here are: Granny Smith, Bubble Gum, China and Yellow Submarine Fresco Chalk paints. Lovely, bright colours but not so overpowering that they will take away from the main focal images. That's the beauty of the chalk finish. I then followed this step with some stenciling using similar, but lighter colours from the colour palette.

It was at this stage that I decided I wanted a more glossy surface, so out came Fresco Finish Gloss Glaze. I haven't used this in ages and I found myself wondering, why not? It not only adds a superb gloss finish but seals the first layers too if you want to stamp or embellish over the top.

At this point I decided that I wanted to add some different shaped tags to the banner. So, using different colours and stamping rather than stenciling (background stamps from my stash), I cut and created these; Sour Grapes, Amethyst, Beach Hut, Jade, Slimed, Sargasso (all from Seth Apter and Tracy Scott Paint sets).

Again, I wanted to keep the backgrounds simple so as not to confuse the main images. It was hard not to doodle across those backgrounds.I love that Sargasso Fresco Chalk on top of the new colour: Slimed. Delicious.

The stamps I used were taken from sets: ZA01, ZA07 and the new set: ZA21.

I used Copic Markers to colour the images as I find using paint to colour in quite tricky. Copic markers work well over Fresco Chalk paint and they are lovely and bright and permanent. However, they do not work well with ranger Archival ink pads as the oil in the ink reacts with the alcohol in the pens causing the ink to bleed. So, you need to stamp with a water based dye ink eg Memento ink pad (Tuxedo Black) by Tsukineko. I used PaperArtsy Smoothy 240gms card.  I used Gloss Glaze over these stamped images too. Now, for the fiddly task of stringing them all together.

The bunting ended up being extremely long but, luckily, I had a long piece of gingham to adhere all shapes onto. The cut out images on the triangles are some background images from Set ZA01 that I absolutely adore and often use in my journaling.

I am absolutely sure that my youngest granddaughter is going to love this new addition to her nursery. I just hope there is enough wall space to accomodate its length! We are coming to the end of this particular challenge on the PaperArtsy blog but if you haven't entered your project yet, there is still time. Banners, Flags and Bunting are great fun to make and can help to make any occasion (or any room) very special. I hope I or any of the previous bloggers have tempted you to have a go. You'll enjoy the process and the finished result!

2018 #6 Bunting: Colours of Summer with HP, EAB and MN {by Jennie Atkinson}

2018 Topic 6: Banners & Bunting

Jennie has a wonderful array of our vintage stamps on show in her bunting in this gorgeous post, and yet she has created a very cheerful colour palette with these oldy-worldy stamps. I love that a fresh colour palette puts a twist on Vintage themed items.

Hi everyone, it's Jennie (Live The Dream) here sharing some summer inspiration for our current Challenge. I love my garden and in particular the pink and white flowers I try and grow (somewhat difficult here in the North, but I try not to be deterred!). As we are still in the grips of snow and cold temperatures I thought  little bunting trio of these summer colours would brighten the craft room.

I have used two Hot Picks stamp sets:

This was my very first PaperArtsy purchase quite a number of years ago and one I use ALL the time and never tire of. It has so many different little bits and pieces that can be used for any project: the flourish in particular is never off my desk it is such a favourite.

I love clock faces for tucking under other elements and this is my all time favourite.

Overall it came out a bit more pink that an I had intended, but it certainly brightens the darkest of corners!

I cut my own bunting pieces from heavy board and gave everything a coat of Fresco Finish Chalk Acylics. I have included a template for the bunting pieces on my own blog which you can find by clicking the link here.

I also painted some Smoothy Cardstock with the Chalk Fresco before adding Distress Oxides. These pieces gave me my base colours and I do find that adding the paint first gives me a brighter colour than the Oxides might normally give.

It was then a case of finding an Infusions to match! Blackcurrant infusions was a perfect fit and then everything I thought I might need for the project got coloured. I prefer to do this at the outset and even if I don't use it all at least everything matches in terms of colour.

The boards were given a little texture using again one of my favourite stencils, the border from Scrapcosy...

... (PS050 by Scrapcosy) and Blackcurrant Infusions added only very, very lightly and using lots of water!

I decided to make the two outside banners similar but using different sentiments.

I have used some of the coloured cardstock to make some roll up flowers.

Just a small part of the clock is all that's needed to extend the cluster and I have only used the top part of the "Imagination" stamp from Mini 48

I wanted to make the middle section my main focus and for this lovely sentiment from EAB07 (Dreaming and Doing).

And here's a blast from the past! Again another very early PaperArtsy purchase which I used to use all the time and was very popular in my workshops for small photographs in mini books. This lovely die is sadly not available anymore but I am sure some of you may well have it in your stash too. It used to be available as Stamp and Die set 02

The painted Blackcurrant Infusions was a little stark but a little sanding resulted in a more  vintage feel. I also sanded the edges of the flowers to expose the white of the cardstock.

A  little bit of summer to brighten my days in the craft room! I just love using small bits and pieces of stamps to add vintage layers to my projects and I know I shall never tire of using this wonderful Hot Picks set.

2018 #6 Banners & Bunting: Blowing in the Breeze with EKD {by Carol Fox}

2018 Topic 6: Banners & Bunting

Ohhhh I was hoping that someone would get out the sewing machine! I love fabric bunting, and so, it seems does Carol! This is perfect for summer fun! She is ready for a street party! Well we do have royal wedding fun to enjoy this summer in the UK! ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, it's Carol with you today, and I'd like to share with you some summer bunting. I do love a string of bunting fluttering in the breeze and I tend to have rather a lot of it strung up on my patio in the summer.

The big bold images on the Kim Dellow stamps are perfect for stamping onto fabric as there is lots of space to paint within the stamped area and not to many fiddly bits to worry about when stamping onto the porous fabric. I found this a really fun project to make and if you don't have a sewing machine, you could either hand sew them or just leave them single sided and use glue to attach them to your tape. Easy peesy bunting in the breezy.

I drew a triangle template and used a basic cream fabric to cut my flag shapes, the smoothness of the cheaper fabric was lovely to work on with the Fresco Paints. They actually made the perfect combination and I am thrilled how my bunting turned out.

I thought it would be best to stamp in paint, so I used Fresco Finish Little Black Dress and EKD05 and EKD06 to randomly stamp my images onto all my flags.

I worked on a few flags at a time painting the images with Fresco Finish paints, Cerise, Slimed (from the Tracy Scott set of paints) and Glass Blue. I mixed them with an equal amount of Satin glaze to stop any bleed and a small squirt of water to thin it enough to flow properly on the fabric.

I thought my background looked to empty so I used Freso Finish Sargasso paint from the Tracy Scott set and Stencil PS036 to fill the gaps, masking off the images to avoid messing them up.

It still need a bit more of something so I stamped the long dot shapes from EKD05 in black archival ink and used the Cerise paint again with stencil PS001 to add lots of pink spots to the background.

Once I had made up my flags I added black stitching round the edges to border them, this could just a easily be done with paint if you don't want to stitch round them.

I used pink fabric to make up tape which I used to join my flags. I was really lucky and my fabric is nearly the same shade as the Cerise I used for my  stencilled spots so the whole thing ties together really well.

Once it was all joined I had a little play and coloured in the long stamped dots with a  blue colouring pencil and added little spots here and there with liquid pearls.

I really like how my colour choices gave my bunting a bit of a retro feel. It would be so easy to change the feel/theme of the finished item by simply changing the colour pallet. I was tempted to add a quote to each of the flags but I obviously did not. Bunting is so adaptable, you could add letters to spell a name to make a lovely baby gift, or stamp yourself a lovely christmas set, what a great way to show off your PaperArtsy stamps.

I hope you enjoyed my project, Carol XX

2018 #6 Banners & Bunting: Flower People with I&D {by Alison Hall}

2018 Topic 6: Banners & Bunting

IT's a bit like 'eye-spy' bunting in this fun post from Alison with our quirky Ink and the Dog stamps which never seem to go out of date! Enjoy! ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, it's Alison/Craftytrog with you today, and I'd like to share with you my quirky flower people bunting, made with a wonderful Ink & The Dog Artdoll image. I used my favourite collage techniques with a variety of textures, and Tracy Scott's bright and funky Fresco Acrylic Paint colours.

I love using corrugated packaging, and originally intended this to be the base for my collages, but things took a different route. Isn't that Sargasso Fresco Acrylic Paint a gorgeous Spring colour? I think it contrasts beautifully against the kraft.

I decided to use mount board bases, and cut some tags using a Tim Holtz Sizzix die. It makes for a nice sturdy base if you want to hang the bunting outside. I used a texture stamp from Ink & The Dog Backgrounds 2, with Sepia Archival Ink. I think it looks a bit like a brick wall.

An idea was forming, and I stamped with Onyx Black Versafine Ink, and clear embossed some of the Flower Dolls from Ink & The Dog Dolls 2 onto gessoed music paper, painting them with Sargasso, Slimed and Cerise from Tracy Scott's Fresco Acrylic Paint Set 2. This is such a beautiful set of brights! I think it goes well with the quirky doll image. And, don't you just love the eyes in the flower centres?!

As I assembled my tags, I found some pieces of lace and co-ordinating buttons, and I couldn't resist a splatter and edging of Sargasso Fresco Acrylic Paint to bring everything together. Using some flower brads was an easy way to attach the lace for hanging.

I hope my funky flower people have inspired you to make some collaged bunting for the latest challenge. I'm going to keep my bunting hung in the garden. It's interesting to watch how the elements will affect it. Why not add some metal embellishments? With a bit of Spring rain, they'll be lovely and rusty in no time!

I'm looking forward to seeing all your bunting projects for the challenge,

Alison x
