NEW PaperArtsy Products: Kate Crane {May 2026}

A note from Leandra:
This release has all you would want from a new Kate Crane release! Whimsical, quirkiness and even toadstools. To top it all off, an adorable pigeon who has already featured in one of our classes the past few days while Mark and I are at the NAMTA tradeshow in St Louis, USA. The show opened yesterday and we have had a busy time teaching classes and explaining to shop owners a lot about PaperArtsy products and sharing lots about our fabulous designers!

Kate's release is a little different today as she is on vacation, so she has pre-recorded what would have been her live. With any luck, if you scroll to the foot of this post, you should be able to see her presentation. We of course will also share that link in our Facebook Group, 'PaperArtsy People'.

Remember, all our new releases are ONLY available EXCLUSIVELY from our approved stockists. Please check the list at the foot of this post to find a retailer online or geographically near you, it makes sense to order within your country where possible.

Our retailers endeavour to join the designer's live to share their direct shopping links in the live chat - this makes it easy for you to find a store with product in stock immediately.

Hello everyone. Kate here with you today

This stamp release is a
nother fun and quirky release including some of my hallmark features - everything from cute little characters to magical collage scenes, to a little bit more of our feathered friends, alongside three stencils to create beautifully patterned backgrounds to help you build any of your artistic projects.

 Red Rubber Stamps (A5 set)
Price: RRP €23.00 +VAT
Size:5" x 6" (13 x16.5cm)
All stamps are individually trimmed onto cling foam, with a laminated storage/index sheet.

Kate Crane Set 021 (KC021)

This cute characters set includes jive dancing, a cute little floral offering, arms outstretched to share maximum love, and an artist who even has her own quote of ‘artist at work’. I love drawing these cute slightly wonky little characters and many of them begin life drawn in my Travelers Journal, often while I'm out and about in the wild, before they eventually become stamps.

'For You'

Beginning with a small square greetings card. I began with a gel print, added a little cotton muslin (which is fabulous stuff for adding frayed layers and texture!) and then chose a cute floral offering of a solo stem.

I added a further layer using the broken squares stencil, alongside the quote 'for you' which makes this greetings card suitable for a variety of occasions.

I coloured her very loosely with regular watercolours ...

... before adding a sprinkling of glitter for a final touch.

A fairly recent discovery for me was spinners and wobblers to add to art projects and of course it is now my new favourite thing. You can't see it here, but one little nudge get this little character wiggling and jiggling!

Artist at Work

Here we have an artist at work. As an artist I felt she needed a more grungy background, something with a little depth, so I opted for Infusions over Grunge paste. I let the Infusions sit for a while to allow the colour to develop before I blotted to create a background which is a bit moody, grungy AND textured!

I picked out a couple of gel plate prints and hand cut a couple of circles (don't look too closely!) which I placed over each other to 'spotlight' the main focal image. I snuck in a sneaky bit of transparency behind her too - just a little orange glow behind her head.

I added a bit of wonky stitching (always optional), a scrap  of silk ribbon, and I think as an artist she looks quite at home here!

Working Artist

Ooh another artist at work, this time in my small 6x6" kraft journal. I began with a gel plate print for the background, but do you see the frame I placed her over?

Ah well, that came from another new release set ... coming up next! I masked the toadstool from the collage stamp and then used it as the perfect setting for an artist. The background of the marks, the moon and the circles were all ready made by the stamp. An easy peasy location for a cute little image and a great way to get the most out of your stamps.

A bit of muslin, silk ribbon, stitching (again!), and again I think she looks quite at home.

Kate Crane 022 (KC022)

Something a little different are these collage scenes showcasing magical toadstools and fairytale trees along with moons, sun, marks to complete the scene. You can simply stamp and colour them as they are, or you can get a little creative. Again these began life as little sketches done in my Travelers Journal, while I was feeling inspired reading a book about nature.

These are so simple to stamp, colour and cut out yet lend themselves very well to layering, building up height, and texture. They are also super easy to mask to remove the focal elements leaving a great frame and surround suitable for placing other character stamps.

Fairytale

Simply coloured with watercolours, the toadstool stamped twice to allow me to add a little  depth, makes for a simple but cute tag.

A bit of muslin, loose threads and stitching complete the look. If you look closely you may see that I added a little texture stamping in the background too, using a previous mini stamp.

I found the fairytale quote in a vintage book of quotes and it just seemed to fit the scene perfectly..

These collage type stamps are the perfect size for an ATC, a lovely addition to a tag, or they sit quite happily in your art journals or Travelers Journals.

Freedom

Much as I enjoy a peaceful five minutes simply colouring in these collage  images, I also do love a bit of quick and easy paper piecing using up gel plate prints!

It's simple and effective to pick out two contrasting coloured prints and combine them.

And as I said earlier, spinners and wobblers are my new favourite thing. Who knew that a wobbling jiggling toadstool would make me happy?!

Shroom collage no. 1

These collage images may be just ATC sized, but building and layering gel plate prints to frame the central image is an effective way to use them on a larger project such as a journal page.

This is another example of paper piecing using up gel plate prints. Again the shroom is mounted with foam stickers to create a little depth.

And you can see here how I used random squares of overlapping prints, new releases of course, to allow my shroom collage to sit comfortably in the middle of a larger page.

Shroom Collage no.2

A slightly smaller journal page this time, but still using prints to allow the collage to sit nicely on a larger page.

I used watercolour to create a simple wash of blue for the background along with a stronger traditional pop of red for the toadstool. And I snuck in a few coloured bits of transparency too ... did you notice?!

Kate Crane 023 (KC023)

And finally, a few more feathered friends featuring some rather comical pigeons, one in an upright stance and one mid-flight. I love these comical, often maligned little birds, in real life they really are quite hilarious! There are footprints, crowns and quotes just to add to the whimsy.

Funky Pigeon

As you can see the quote QUEEN sits perfectly here! And with a matching crown who are we to argue?

I coloured her with Infusions and Matte glaze. The glaze makes painting with Infusions super easy, and you can achieve a lovely depth of colour.

I placed her in the centre of a gel plate with the *new* circular design because circles always work, right?! And this time I added not a wobbler, but a full 360 spinner. You can't see it here, but trust me, a spinning pigeon over a circular background is always going to be funny! Oh, and according to the quote, FUNKY too.

Flying Delivery

Flying pigeon has a couple of options to carry in his beak, making him (or her) the perfect homing/carrier pigeon. Absolutely nothing wrong with a pigeon delivering a heart!

I stamped and coloured just once, but then cut the image in half to give the illusion of two, and placed inside a hand cut circle as a frame.

Also, look closely at the background prints. Yes, you guessed it! New designs ... more coming up soon ....

Spinning Queen

Oh another spinner! This time I used the toadstool from the collage set - simply coloured and cut out, to give the QUEEN something to stand on. And stand she does, UNLESS you give her a little spin!

The backgrounds were created with Infusions and *new* stencils. The quote FUNKY can be quite challenging to add towards the end of a project as the fear of making a mistake at the last minute is real. So I stamped it onto a clear transparency and added as a top layer to take away the fear!

'Hello'

Nothing wrong with a quirky funny little pigeon swinging by to say Hello!

I masked and stamped the collage stamp which gave me a frame, as well as the sun and a few marks, the perfect place to add a pigeon at a jaunty little angle.

Placing that over a couple of layered prints turned his little ATC size into a larger creation.

So time now to take a look at the stencils, we have 3 new designs, something square, something circular and something wavy!

Broken Squares

I'm sure you will already know this, but usually I am usually a big fan of circles. But now I have discovered I love squares too! Especially when they are a little imperfect and broken, creating a grid effect but not too rigid. Not to too perfect.

Firstly, here I scraped Grunge Paste through the stencil which creates a fabulous resist effect. I added Infusions - Blackcurrant and Green Man - and lots of water over the top (on Smoothy card of course). The effect is moody and grungy and I love it!

Same stencil but a completely different look and feel here. Watery Infusions to begin to create pools of colour first, and then I sponged Distress Ink through the stencil in a couple of different colours.

And now another totally different look, a little more loose and sketchy this time. I sponged ink (fountain pen ink) through the stencil onto a scrap of old ledger paper. Once dry I very loosely added a little white paint with a brush, absolutely not trying to be neat! Scribbly pencil marks as a top layer completes the loose arty look.

And of course, my old favourite technique! Can't resist a bit of alcohol ink on the gel plate.

PaperArtsy Stencil 510 (PS510)

And now it's back to my old favourite shape of a circle! You just can't go wrong with a circle. It's a friendly shape, it doesn't 'fight' with anything, and it creates a perfect central place to add an image. What is not to love?

Swirling Circle

Another example of Infusions over Grunge Paste.   I haven't even used this background yet. It has been added to my collection of Favourite Backgrounds to be used in the future!

Alcohol ink on the Gel plate is really the gift that keeps on giving. Once you have that ink on your stencil you can create several prints, each a little different, every one unique - you can never get the same effect twice!

And of course circles are the perfect placement for your stamped images.

I love the watery look you can create with Infusions, by creating a watery background, then placing your stencil over and immediately blotting to allow the pattern to shine. It's a little unpredictable, and you get a different result every time but we do all love a bit of serendipity don't we?

PaperArtsy Stencil 511 (PS511)

Dots and Dashes

Despite my love of bold pattern, there are times when you need something a little gentler. And here it is; a gentle rippling combination of wavy dots and dashes. Here you can see Distress Ink  sponged over a watery background of Infusions, with a few added splats for good measure.

And here, of course, some alcohol ink prints.

The perfect gentle background for a mid-flight Carrier Pigeon.

I do hope you have enjoyed this whimsical, quirky, colourful journey through my latest release. I can't wait to see what you all create with these!

A HUGE thank you to the PaperArtsy crew for making these stamps and making all this creativity possible!
