"For today’s project I decided to get my Distressed Stains
out for an airing"!
I’ve used a flat canvas and the Distress Stains I chose are from the Seasonal Collection.
I scribbled the various colours over the canvas and then spritzed it well with water and held the canvas upright and waited for the ink to run.
Once the ink was dry I mixed some Grunge Paste with a small amount of Bora Bora and used it with a diamond stencil. I patted the Grunge Paste while the stencil was still in place to add some texture.
At this point I was going to use some Masking Tape like Michelle Webb showed you in Semester one. However, when I stamped the tape using the stamp from the VintageID04 set, I discovered that I liked the effect of what was left behind rather than the tape itself ! So, I stuck some masking tape to the canvas and then stamped the letters using a mixture of Green Olives and Limelight.
I then used the Reversed Chicken Wire Stencil with BalticBlue and added some text using the Mini 44 stamp with Black Archival Ink.
I then stamped the lovely lady from the Vintage ID 02 set onto some Smoothy White Stamping Card,
...then masked her off using a Post It Note. I then used the Carte Postale stamp from the Vintage ID04 set and stamped over the mask.
I cut the image down and then distressed the edges and used
Rusty Hinge and Vintage Photo Distress Inks around the edge.
For the layers I used pages from an old book which I painted with Snowflake. Then I stamped the post mark from the Vintage ID 04 set using Olive Archival Ink trimmed the page down and distressed the edges.
For the second layer I stamped the same post mark stamp using Zesty Zing, Blood Orange and Beach Hut.
I then used the Mini 44 and Mini 56 stamps using Zesty Zing and Baltic Blue. The third layer was made with the Reverse Chicken Wire stencil as before.
Now remember the Masking Tape that I decided not to use, well I decided that I could still use it.
I rolled it up and painted each roll a different colour using Pesto, Smoked Paprika , Zesty Zing and Baltic Blue.
The painted book pages were layered up and the winged lady
added to the centre. I also stamped the coupon and ticket stamps from theVintage ID02 and ID07 sets onto painted book paper and added a button.
The rolled pieces of stamped Masking Tape were added
randomly, I thought it gave the appearance of peeling paper. To finish I brushed a little Classic Treasure Gold around the edge.
I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s project, I’ll be back on Wednesday with my third and final piece for this week. Sue.
Leandra Says: I was wondering what you were going to do with all the stamped layers, and those pretty-fluffy layers with the zingy colours look really fun on this. The dream lady is another one of my all time fave stamps from our original collection. Even though she is nearly 10 years old, she is a classic stamp! The Vintage version is larger than the original Ink and the Dog one, but she is also available as a mini too.
Gillian Says: Love the effect of the rolled up book pages Sue, perfect backdrop for "dream lady" to adorn, fab mix of colours too.
