NEW {Eclectica³ Everything Art} with Keren Baker

Eclectica³ Everything Art by Keren Baker

Totally thinking outside the box, Keren heads off to create a 3 dimensional masterpiece with a poignant echo of missing relatives who are loved but lost. A classic example of how a stamp has the utmost versatility, its just how you interpret what you could do with it!

Here's a reminder of the new stamps set from Kasia and Jamie at Everything Art...

EEA06 (Eclectica³ Everything Art: Set 06)

Hi everyone! Keren Baker here.

Great to be with you on the blog tonight. I've chosen to do something a little different. Whilst it cannot be described as conceptual art, certainly the theme behind it is far more important than the finished piece... Let me explain!

This hanging frame is all about missing and found. The recent found object theme on the PaperArtsy blog had me going in one direction and yet Leandra asked me to use the brand new set by Everything Art. When I got it and stamped it, the random selection of photos made me think of lost and found people.

The numbers in the set led me to do some research about people reported missing in this country. I'd actually watched a YouTube video of The Missing People Choir and in conjunction with a series on BBC1 all about how the Police find people, I was very moved to create this piece. See the number in the photo above? That's the amount of young people 12-17 who were reported missing to the Police in 2015-16.

Granted, lots of these people were found, and safely too, but there are still so many not found yet. See the sepia tones? This is to represent the fading of those still not found whilst the black ink stands for the fact that they are not forgotten by those who are still missing them.

The set fitted so perfectly with the theme. Even the mitred section stamps providing the most perfect frames from which I could hang each picture string.

This just gives you an idea of how it was constructed. I wanted colours that weren't too bright and happy, but enough to provide contrast to the faces. I'll explain a little more of how the piece fits with the theme.

The two red hearts on some of the hanging sections are partly because that person missing (& found) was loved and missed, which is why they were reported, but the two of them stands for the statistic that every 2 minutes someone is reported missing in the UK. Figures are increasing each year and as someone who has had a family member go missing, I can relate to the awful realisation that they've gone and your hope and elation when they've been found. The strings hanging are to show how the lives of those hoping their loved one is found are simply suspended until they return.

I hope it has inspired you to make some art that really means something to you. I learned that creating something that was representational rather than just eye-candy or an outward expression of inward creativity was rather moving. I would next like to create a journal with this set, for expressing feelings as a result of the art I create. It's a gorgeous stamp set that inspired this piece and is wonderfully versatile.
Keep close to your friends and family and look out for those around you too! x

Thanks for joining me tonight!

This is a stunning tribute Keren. I too caught the choir on that TV show, and it was so touching. You cannot imagine the ache of not knowing where a loved one lost is. So many questions and no answers. Thanks for bringing this to us in such a beautiful way.

I love this project, Keren. Not only is it beautiful to look at and interesting; but the concept behind it is moving and compelling. xx

Oh Keren. I'm so moved by your project and wonderful explanation. This response to the whole, dreadful issue of missing people is very thought-provoking. I have found each aspect of your art fascinating: the reasons for your specific uses of colour and that very disturbing number of people who were reported missing in one given year. I am really inspired to create some art now which reflects something important to me. A rare, important and wonderful piece. Thankyou xxx
