NEW PaperArtsy Products {Sara Naumann} October 2024

A note from Leandra ...

Are you ready for a new release from Sara Naumann ???

As the year end looms ever closer, we thought it might be smart to go small. Smaller stamps, smaller stencils, and that means smaller prices too! What's not to like!

Sara Naumann is a mixed media guru who can turn her hand to almost any style, and these products reflect her love of vintage, texture and nature.

We know that this time of year you may well be looking ahead to Christmas, and we think the dinky size of these products might make the perfect stocking fillers for your crafty friends & family, or who knows, you might be making an advent calendar for someone very special.

If you would like to see this release revealed, and the numerous samples Sara has created, then head on over to our Facebook Community PaperArtsy People at 20:30 Paris time. You can also find the replay pinned to the featured posts at the top of the PaperArtsy People Facebook group.

Sara will be LIVE over in our Facebook Group, 'PaperArtsy People' shortly after this post publishes, and ... don't forget

These stamps are ONLY available EXCLUSIVELY from our approved stockists. Please check the list at the foot of this post to find a retailer online or geographically near you, it makes sense to order within your country where possible.

Our retailers also endeavour to join the designer's live to share their direct shopping links - this makes it super easy for you to find a store with product in stock immediately.

Hi everyone, Sara here.

Today I'm really excited to show you my latest batch of stamps and stencils!

As Leandra said, we're going smaller this time around—a change I found both challenging and fun, both in terms of designing the images, and designing the projects to go along. Working in a completely different size format has helped perk up some creative vibes for me, in an unexpected way. And while you know you can always go bigger by repeating motifs, I really found it fun to embrace the smaller size and let them work in harmony with the colors and textures from Mattints and Grunge Paste.

Speaking of Mattints and Grunge Paste, I've used them throughout today's post. And I'm also using them to create some new words, apparently—"Mattinting", for example! It was my first play with Mattints and the PaperArtsy plain tissue paper and I am OBSESSED with both of these things, which led to a fabulously creative mess in my studio as well as a brilliant weekend of brayering, painting, stamping and Grunge Paste-ing!

Sara Naumann Eclectica³ Red Rubber Mini Stamps
Price: RRP €4.90 +VAT
Size: generally credit card (ish) size images
All stamps are individually trimmed onto cling foam

I'm all about nature themes—they appeal to the Oregonian (and now Hamburger) in me...flowers, birds and sea imagery is what I'm unfailingly drawn to. And for cardmaking, art journaling and other paper crafts, these images are also easy to work with.

This time, I wanted to include images that have space for coloring in, either with paint or Mattints or pens or colored pencils, as well as some go-to background elements and text. Let's have a look!

Eclectica³ Mini 113 by Sara Naumann   (code: EM113)

Grungy and gritty letters in a jumble? Yes please! They can make a striking focal element by themselves but also pair nicely with some Grunge Paste'd stenciling. (More on those later!)

I love how the intensity of the thick lines looks over the Mattinted background!

Plus you can layer Grunge Paste stenciling on top to add to the layers.

Eclectica³ Mini 114 by Sara Naumann   (code: EM114)

Well, if you have letters, you should have numbers too—right? They are the perfect companion, and I think they would be fabulous used together on a piece.

This time, I stamped the numbers onto white card, then overlaid it with brayer-painted Mattints tissue.

The word "voyage" is from another new stamp—ESN118—which I stamped on tissue paper and glued on top of the first layer of tissue. I think the letters and numbers can easily be accented with little words from other sets.

I wanted to try the numbers stamp on a textured surface, so I made another project (which I'll show in the Live). For the project photo below, I've got just a snippet of the numbers stamped onto Grunge Pasted stenciled tissue. *swoon*

Eclectica³ Mini 115 by Sara Naumann   (code: EM115)

I really love birds, and I think their symbolism—flight, freedom, beauty, song—make them so ideal for lots of occasions. This little birdie has a sentiment which can be used or either masked off, or even snipped off the main stamp.

He's stamped onto a Mattints-brayered background (with a bit of Concrete paint in there too).

I've painted him in with some Mattints, which I think is such an easy way to create layers of color.

Eclectica³ Mini 116 by Sara Naumann   (code: EM116)

Here's one example of the focal stamp sans words—I masked off the "vintage post" words from this project since I wanted the stenciled word to be partially visible. That stencil, PM029, is coming up in this release, too!

The flower is great for coloring in—here, with Mattints—and I like how the open lines contrast with the darker leaf and snippet of numbers.

The layer under the stamp is a reverse-stenciling technique used in combination with PM029. Below, I've made another small project with the flower stamped onto brayer-Mattinted tissue paper, which is glued onto white card. ("Brayer-Mattinted"...I'm really making the most of my new vocabulary!)

Eclectica³ Mini 117 by Sara Naumann   (code: EM117)

This little thistle also has text which can be used, or left off... or used separately for other projects. (Hint hint, you may see this text in other projects soon!) As with the flower and the bird, this is a great one to color in, either with Mattints, opaque paints, or pencils and pens.

This image was stamped on Mattinted tissue, then colored from the back with Fresco paints.

After I glued the tissue to white card and let it dry, I stenciled with Grunge Paste to create a frame—this adds texture, but also helps to "grow" the size of the image somewhat.

Eclectica³ Mini 118 by Sara Naumann   (code: EM118)

I *loooove* seashell images, especially ones like this that have a vintage vibe—here, I paired it with some scripty text and postmark. Like the flower, it can be layered onto a reverse-stenciled background.

Again, Mattints were used to paint in the image—and I love how the translucency adds to the layered effect.

The stencil is PM030, with a journey theme that works so beautifully with this image!

And, below we have the stamp looking completely different—stamped in its entirety on Mattinted tissue, with that fabulous "voyager" word left in place. (Good eye if you noticed I snipped off the "r" for our Numbers stamp project, to make it read "voyage"!)

Eclectica³ Mini 119 by Sara Naumann   (code: EM119)

Well, what is a Sara Naumann release without a couple of quotes?!? I happened upon this one and thought it was just so beautiful on it's own—but of course will work easily with any floral stamps, stencils or embellishments. And I adore it on top of a simply brayered background—especially with some stenciling!

The centered words make it easy to build out the sides, with stenciling or perhaps a stamped background image.

I think this sentiment is a beautiful one for cards, journal pages and of course the small size means it can also work on tags, ATCs and bookmarks. And—yes, you can isolate just a portion of the sentiment, or just one word, as I've done here:

Eclectica³ Mini 120 by Sara Naumann   (code: EM120)

The Poetry sentiment is much like the Love stamp—designed to work as a focal, or beautiful when stamped with a light ink or paint, simply floating in a background.

My background could not be easier—brayered Concrete Fresco, with Mattints on top. And, more stenciling! (You must be *very* curious to see the stencils by now!)

I use this font a lot—mostly because Leandra and I both like it for its vintage style, but also because it just reads so nicely. And, with so many of my older stamp designs using this font, it makes it easier for stampers to mix and match between generations of stamps.

Okay, here's another option for you, just the one word stamped on tissue and glued in between the stenciling:

PaperArtsy Stencils {Mini Size}
Price: RRP €4.90 + VAT
Mini Size: 3.5" x 3.75" (9cm x 9.5cm)
Robust 250 micron mylar designed to offer longevity, deep texture and easy clean up

Oh, have I mentioned we have some stencils too? LOL.

I am mad about stencils, especially if I can integrate them into my stamping and backgrounds. But this time I also added in some sentiment stencils, which work as focals and for backgrounds too. WIth all of the stencils, they print beautifully with Grunge Paste, or stippled with paint, or reverse-stenciled with dye-based ink.

PaperArtsy Mini Stencil by Sara Naumann (PM027)

I call this stencil "commas" and it's already become one of my go-tos for adding repeating pattern to a design. But the pattern is not totally even, which makes it so much more fun to play with the open spaces. You could even add in a tiny word, like this one from ESN118!

When I use Grunge Paste and a stencil, I try not to make it smooth and even—I love the little dips and bald patches.

I'm obsessed with Paper Artsy's tissue—I've stamped the word onto Mattinted tissue, let it dry and then glued it to the cardstock, in the open area.

PaperArtsy Mini Stencil by Sara Naumann (PM028)

Sentiments on small stencils—just the thing for a petite collage or card focal. And of course, you can use the sentiment in its entirety, or just a portion.

A really abstract painted background makes a perfect surface for the Grunge Pasted stenciling.

Imperfect Grunge Paste-ing is one of my favorite looks—especially in combination with the tidy clean lines of the die-cut square surface. After the Grunge Paste dried, I also spattered some paint on top for extra contrast.

PaperArtsy Mini Stencil by Sara Naumann (PM029)

Ahhh, what can I say... I adore this sentiment and I think it is gorgeous on its own, and would combine so nicely with ESN116 (the flower) or ESN117 (the thistle) or ESN118 (the shell). Oh, yep, you could also put it with ESN115 (the bird), too!

For this one, I reverse-stenciled the whole design with a pink dye-based ink, but then realized it wasn't bold enough on top of that painted background. So I replaced the stencil on top of the original stenciling, and stippled with black ink. This gave me an inadvertently cool shaded effect!

See??? These are the kinds of wonderful things that happen in a craft room at ten o'clock on a Friday night!

And then I added the tiny "imagine" from ESN115, also stamped on tissue paper and glued on.

PaperArtsy Mini Stencil by Sara Naumann (PM030)

Grungy lettering and weathered-looking layers are so perfect for this stenciled sentiment.

Yes, the tiny "explore" is here—from ESN117. The tissue paper stamping is a great way to play with the position of a word before stamping it, and gluing it down means you can fit it between the dimensional letters.

To enhance the weathered effect of the Grunge Pasted letters, I sanded back a lot of the stenciling with a sanding tool.

Our final stencil! Like the Commas, the X's stencil is one of my new favorites for uneven but repetitive backgrounds. And—like our Commas—it works great vertically or horizontally. Of course, the two stencils can also be used together, as on our first stamped sample for the Alphabet stamp!

Yes, I've managed to fit in the Wander word from ESN117 here. See how perfectly it fits?

The stenciling is done with Grunge Paste, and I was pretty heavy-handed in some areas but varied the amount to create some bald spots too.

Wow, I think we've made it to the end! Thank you so much for hanging out with me here. I really do hope you've enjoyed the samples and that the designs are inspiring you. I also hope that seeing the combination of stamps and stencils together helps show just how versatile these little guys are!

As always, a massive thanks to the PaperArtsy folks for their good work in consistently turning out stamps and stencils (and paints and Mattints) with really fabulous quality. It means that the tools we're buying and using today will have longevity so we can use and enjoy them for years to come!
