A note from Leandra:
As you all probably know by now, I am a huge fan of Lynne's stamps. And it's not just me out there who was itching to play with these stamps, as you will see in this quite lengthy post, both Liesbeth and Keren were also keen to use them too, and put their slant on them.
As you all probably know by now, I am a huge fan of Lynne's stamps. And it's not just me out there who was itching to play with these stamps, as you will see in this quite lengthy post, both Liesbeth and Keren were also keen to use them too, and put their slant on them.
The details In LPC stamps are so pleasing! I love how the 3 of us each show them off in completely different ways, Liebeth loves her bold backgrounds and mask the stamps to create a whole new composition using parts of the stamps. Keren is so good at colouring, she often picks out all the detail in stamps, and manages to share in a quite minimalist, clean style, and I head towards the painterly backgrounds in softer tones, vintage papers on which the stamps sit so well. I am sure you too have your own preferred way to use them.
As you will discover from Lynne Perrella's personal introduction below, she puts so much thought and curation into each design, explaining how it relates to her life and travels. This release you can feel the Venice vibe oozing from every design. There is a fabulous continuity of style across her entire stamp collection, showcasing her distinctive collage style.
Leandra will be along to share with you live in the PaperArtsy People FB group many of the samples featured in this post. If you can't catch the live, it will be pinned as a featured post to the top of the group for easy access.
For the next few months, these stamps are available exclusively from our approved stockists. Please check the list at the foot of this post or from the tab at the top of the blog home page to find a retailer online or geographically near you, it makes good sense to order within your country where possible.
Hi everyone, Lynne Perrella here with a new stamp collection - Inspired by Venice
I loved designing this new collection of Venice-themed stamps. I immersed myself in my art library, files, and my own travel journals. From the monuments and museums, to artisan’s studios and paper emporiums, to sipping espresso at Florian’s café, to toasting at Harry’s Bar – memories of Venice came rushing back.
My studio was awash in reference books, engravings, a large reproduction of the famous Barbari birds-eye map of Venice/1500, and some of the papers we found at Legatoria Piazzesi (the incomparable Venetian paper store, and worth the trip from anywhere).
My design process allows me to delve into a topic, and express my ideas in my own visual language. I love intricate lavish/vintage detail – More is more! – and the engraved swirls from old documents and distinctive quatrefoil windows of palazzos were included in my collages. I created theatrical costumes using bits of architecture, map cartouches, and title pages from vintage opera scores. (Including a regal crown that just happens to be the legendary Bridge of Sighs).
I recalled the many masonry seals, heraldic crests, and engraved plaques we saw as we walked down a narrow maze of winding pathways; and used similar adornments for the various costumed characters. Bits of typography and script are tucked into the collages, to add intricacy and even more detail.
I suspect that most stampers love old paper and ephemera as much as I do, so I love to include images that suggest postage stamps, cancellations, seals and labels, and wisps of saved letters and old musty books. One of my costumed figures is comprised of a classic engraving of St. Mark’s Square, details from a vintage millinery catalog, and a series of labels and numerals. She’s ready for a Carnavale ball, or a paper doll promenade.
Harlequin motifs always remind me of masked balls and Commedia dell Arte performances. This romantic character is more-so with the word “dream” tucked into her hat, and the detailed swirls in the design suggest miles of netting and fabric.
This new collection of stamps includes endless details that reflect the eternal mystery, ceremony and worldly elegance of Venice. Whether you interpret this story in vivid primary colors, or theatrical vintage jewel tones, cheerful pastels, or dramatic black and white; the quality of PaperArtsy stamps will elevate every detail. And when I see what stampers do with my designs, I can’t wait to get to the studio and do more, more and more.

The next series of samples are made by Leandra. Mixed media backgrounds with lots of smooshed paints form the backdrop for these stamps which are layered onto card painted with the same colours and vintage papers to break things up. Working in a series this way allows you to build up some continuity between samples. Perhaps these could be mounted into frames.
We often get a profile stamps and art dolls from Lynne Perrella, and these are full of rich detail with lots of Venice elements incorporated.
Stamped in Versafine Clair, the black ink is juicy and sharp, exactly what you need to allow these stamps to really pop off the background.
The leafy headpiece is accentuated with splashes of green and contrasting purple on the shoulder flourish. Just a touch of paint to the face accentuates lips and adds some shading.
There seems a whiff of mystery about this set - reminiscent of masked Venetian balls - who is behind the mask?
The face was stamped on book text and pieced on top, just to add another layer.

Lynne Perrella Stamp Collection Set 062 (LPC062)
Architectural headpieces always catch my eye, but I love how the architectural lines extend across the face with the eye as the focal too! Perfect!
You can add colour far more elaborately than this sample shows to build on the depth within this spectacular stamp.
The tall book marks shaped stamps are always a series of layers that can be used in part or as a whole.
Liesbeth Fidder made card samples using distress inks and stencils on white card, over-stamped in StazOn Black. Every space is filled, the black focal stamps are shared whole or in part. Detail is added with white gel pen, fineliner and glitter glue, some highlights are created with the use of bleach.
Plus four bookmarks created with alcohol inks on very glossy paper (Chromolux). StazOn ink Jet black for the images, accents come from white gel pen, glitter glue. Black Distress ink and a Q-tip helps create shadowing. Lots of masking.
I'll remind you of each of the new stamp sets as we go through her gorgeous samples.
Each element is represented on this card from the stamp set.
Look how the heart and pattern from the small book also fills the background.
And the book has pages too.
On the bookmark, the stamps are masked to lay over/under each other, I love how the doll is front right in the foreground.
The use of red ink in the background fills gaps but doesn't detract from the main focal stamps.
Lightening the faces adds the necessary highlight.
The focal stamp of the masked woman is at the centre with stencilled designs and the words from the lower part of the 'bookmark' stamp filling gaps around other images.
A close up of the stamped words, little dots of glitter glue on the strands.
I love how there is a touch of warmth added to the cool face, and below you can see how stencilled images are outlined with white and black detail pens.
As before, the bookmark features plenty of masking and wonderful colour from alcohol inks
The close up details follow.
Look closely and you will see the stencilling underneath these stamped designs - but there is also some in the top layer of the card too.
Loving the rich yellow and red contrast, and the pale faces gives a ghostly effect. The tiny flowers border of the dress is stamped a several times at the edges of the card, like a frame.
The dress though! That really is something else!
The bookmark using stamps from LPC061, this would be awesome as a book cover - you can just imagine the story within the pages of the lives and loves of these ladies in Venice!
At first glance you might miss all the numbers that are scattered through the designs - perfect extra embellishments.
Upon closer inspection you can see when the dress is stamped in a pale grey, it too can become a background 'filler'.
The 'architectural' eye with the repeating circles is one design feature that works beautifully in this Venice series. Here the roses of the ladies hat are used at the edges of the card, by stamping them a several times a frame appears.
To round off this section, here are all of Liesbeth's gorgeous bookmarks side by side.
Hi all, Keren here with some samples using these utterly wonderful new sets. As I read Lynne's description of the theme and her thought process, I looked at the images and I imagined the Venetian canals of yesteryear and pictured these Venetian vixens as partially submerged in the waters that curl through Venice.
Starting with LPC059, a simple piece with an alcohol inked panel conjuring the waters and the woman gazing into the distance. Lynne masterfully uses fragments so I created my own using parts of the stamped images.
LPC060 has a fabulous collection of images. I took the wistful women, adding tag wings from one of the smaller stamps. I added a flourish to her head from LPC061 and continued to connect the circles as if portraying her journeying through life.
My imagination was really starting to fire, and I have to admit really having fun with this set. When I saw the scene in the woman's dress, I wanted to highlight it with the column part of the dress from LPC059, as if you were looking out into a grand courtyard through carved columns. If you look carefully, you'll see some cut out sections too.
Lastly, the set LPC062 had me focusing on the large face with the bridge above her head. I played around with some scraps of alcohol inked Duralar, die-cuts lying around my desk and also some leftover scrapbook paper. I borrowed the 'Dream' title from the other image in the set and borrowed a bow from LPC059. I think you'll agree these stamp sets are simply sublime!
