NEW PaperArtsy Products: Eclectica³ Gwen Lafleur {February 2022}

A note from Leandra:
Often Gwen brings to you 3 stand-alone sets, but for this series, she has 3 that interweave with each other (and her prior stamps) in quite obvious ways. For me they evoke thoughts of 'a night in the museum' for this release, I can smell that strange old smell, and the subdued lighting. I can imagine lots of long forgotten, vintage bottles filling up shelves, fading samples mounted on pincushions under a dusty cloche in an old store room. What about you? Where might you take this release with your creativity?

I hope you catch her live to see the most incredible journal she has made to showcase these stamps, it is a beauty that will have your eyes on stalks!! I'm sure you will immediately spot the possibilities within this series from tags to cards and so much more. If you like a bit of a vintage museum vibe, then this is certainly for you!

Gwen will be LIVE with her new products and ideas over in our Facebook Group, PaperArtsy People shortly after this post publishes. I really hope you can drop by or catch the replay. You will love seeing what Gwen has made with these for sure!

For the next 3 months, these stamps are only available EXCLUSIVELY from our approved stockists. Please check the list at the foot of this post of from the home page tab of the blog.

Hi everyone, Gwen here!

I'm thrilled to share my latest release
for PaperArtsy with you which includes three hand-drawn stamp sets.

I've been excited about this release since before I even submitted the designs almost six months ago... I absolutely love the way you can create so many different looks and do so much layering with these stamps as well as how the sets all coordinate both with each other and with my previous releases. They've been absolutely addictive for me to work with, and I hope you think so too!

Price: RRP €21.92 +VAT    Size:5" x 6" (13 x16.5cm)
All stamps are individually trimmed onto cling foam with a laminated storage/index sheet.

Eclectica³ Gwen Lafleur 25 (EGL25)

I absolutely adore this set, which I call "Bottles, Jars, & Sprigs." I was so thrilled at how well the feeling of glass translated into the rubber stamps and the way that you can mix and match with the flower sprigs and pods included in the set to get lots of different options and also layer and create scenes. I used them all together here to make a fun framed piece in my current artist book / nature-themed lapbook.

There are so many ways you can work with this set and so many different mediums to apply - each one will change the look of the designs. I found it to be great fun to try different ways to add color to the "glass" and the option to make them empty or filled with water or other liquids.

I love how easy it is to create a layered scene with these stamps by using masks to arrange them. As a tip, you can make it seem more real by putting a horizon line to anchor them and make the arrangement look as if it's sitting on a table. Notice how I very lightly sketched in the "table" inside the jar in the front - this really helps to complete the illusion since you'd have that faint view through the bottle in real life.

There are so many ways you can use this set... you can create arrangements in a single jar or bottle or make all kinds of scenes. They're also super fun to use in conjunction with other stamps. Make sure to check the bottom of the post where I've included a mini gallery of images from my journal that combine two or all three of the new sets in a single page or project.

Eclectica³ Gwen Lafleur 26 (EGL26)

This set, which I've dubbed "Nature Study," is a spin-off of my Build-A-Collage concept. All of the stamps are designed to layer together but can also be used on their own or mixed with other sets. Note that the butterfly and eggs (which you can also cut apart, which is what I did,) are perfectly sized to fit in the opening of the specimen card. All of the images (except the card) will also fit inside of the bell jar. I've had so much fun playing with different ways to create with this set!

Here you can see just how cool it is when you mix the stamps together and create a stamped collage inside of the cloche... I'm just loving this page! It can be a bit tricky to get the eggs perfectly positioned inside the nest - I made a mark on the back of the nest stamp with a Sharpie to indicate where the bottom of the opening is so that I can see it through my acrylic block and use that to position when stamping the nest over the masked off eggs.

I love how I got such a beautifully detailed image... it was like creating my own adult coloring book page just using a few stamps and some masking. I do a little inner happy dance every time I flip to this page in my journal.

Blue Jay with a stamped nest journal page with EGL26 - Gwen Lafleur

This spread in my journal takes the same stamp set and incorporates it in an entirely different way... here I've drawn and watercolored a Blue Jay and then nestled a stamped nest and Blue Jay eggs (colored to match the colors of the real thing) into my hand-drawn branches. I added a stamped feather from the set on the left and paired it with a real feather collected from my yard (we had Blue Jays nesting in our Weeping Cherry Tree last year!)

The stamped images work seamlessly with my drawings; you can just add a few pen marks to make connections and tie the look together.

Bell Jar flip-journal page with EGL26 - Gwen Lafleur

Of course, stamping a "clear" element just begs for working with other transparent supplies... in this case, acetate. I love how cool it looks to piece together acetate and paper, all stamped and then aligned and layered to create this fabulous window page in the flip-art book inside my journal. The Chinese Lantern stalk is going to be a go-to stamp for me... I love how beautifully the details come out!

Using the butterfly stamp from the set with a little masking resulted in the perfect custom patterned paper to use behind my bell jar so that you could see the butterflies peeking through the "glass."

Butterfly and Pressed Flower Specimen Cards with EGL26 - Gwen Lafleur

The specimen cards are their own sort of awesome (not that I'm biased.) I love how you can stamp them as-is or on two colors or types of paper and then cut and layer like I did here. I used more acetate to make windows (some of these have real pressed flowers!) but I also like the ability to keep the paper solid and stamp on top. Can you picture a mini book made of lots of cards bound together? So many ideas and so little time!

Stamped Specimen Boxes with EGL26 - Gwen Lafleur

This last sample with EGL26 is exactly what was in my head as I designed it... I created some low profile specimen boxes out of Smoothy Card and I love how cool they look with my stamped images inside of them. (Note the T-pin on the butterfly... I heat embossed that to make it look like metal.)

Here you can see a better view of the little cubbies in their place on the inside cover of my journal (one of the stamps is from EGL19 - I needed a 5th image to round it out.) I really enjoy how fun and unexpected this is when you open to this part of my book.

There are so many ways you can use this set, especially when you pair it with other designs from this and previous releases. I have a few more samples at the bottom of the post showing all three sets mixed together.

Eclectica³ Gwen Lafleur Set 27 (EGL27)

This set, dubbed "Watercolor Blooms" because they were originally hand-drawn and watercolored, was pulled directly from my sketchbook where I had drawn a set of flowers to use in my Pocketful of People online class. I had used the image of the Mum in a sample for my EGL17 release and was instantly inundated with requests to have that image as a stamp. So, I took my favorites from my sketchbook and pulled them into this set.

For my first sample, I thought it would be fun to show some of the versatility of flowers as well as a few of the cool things you can do with masking (masking is apparently my thing! lol.) I've used all but one of the stamps from this set in this piece.

Watercolor Blooms Stamped Flower Mandala - EGL27 - Gwen Lafleur

Something about it just makes me smile... I wasn't trying to be true to life in my colors, I just picked what felt like a good fit and went with the flow - isn't that part of the point of the mandala? Although the original request was for the Mums, the Grape Hyacinth are my favorites. (I cut the stamp into two pieces so that I can re-arrange how the flowers can be stamped or just use one of them.)

I couldn't help but use some of the images from this set to create the cover of my lapbook / artist book. I deliberately separated the poppy blossom and leaf in the set so that you could stamp them separately to create different arrangements and / or stamp in different colors. I did both here, and I love how cool they look embossed with my Turkish Bronze Boho Blends embossing powder with the single colored flower in the foreground.

Stamped and Embossed Journal Cover with EGL27 - Gwen Lafleur

Inside the book I added more embossing, but the first thing you see when you open the journal is this large painted and stamped leaf. I loved the idea of highlighting a single image this way and then using a real leaf as the substrate to tie it in with the nature theme of the book.

Painted & Stamped Leaf and Embossed Flowers - Gwen Lafleur

Here you can see the design more closely - I adore this little bird and I can't get over the beautiful detail of the blossoms on this image!

In the back of the journal I also used a stamped and embroidered version of one of the blooms from this set as the top page in the flip-art section of the book. I'm such a huge fan of the texture and the look of fabric and embroidery added into my artwork.

In this closeup you can even see how I had colored the stamped image before embroidering on top - a very subtle but fun touch that really helps pull it all together.

There are so many things you can do with flowers - I use them constantly and I think my favorite thing about this set is the inclusion of types of flowers that you don't typically see in stamp sets. I'm having a blast using them together but even more mixing them with my other sets.

Because this is the first time I've really designed all three sets in a release so that they obviously work together, I wanted to share a little mini-gallery of other pages and projects in my journal where I've combined two, if not all three sets together. (You may also see some peeks of previous releases too... you'll see more of that as I share from this journal since I'm also using this book to show how ALL of my stamps can work together!)

I hope you enjoy the ideas and that you're inspired and excited to create!

Whew! That's a lot, but I did mention that these stamps have been addictive, didn't I? LOL. I hope you'll join me either live or on replay for the release video in PaperArtsy People so that you can see more of my journal and samples as well as the inspiration behind this release.
