Hi everyone, Elena here.
I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy. 4 stamps sets, one with Halloween in mind and 3 for Christmas.
Ever since i was 3 years old I drew and painted on used deli paper and I glued my images randomly into battered old printed books I would pick up at market stalls and I would doodle constantly in drawing pads, which I guess are now commonly known as art journals. In later years when I was older I designed cards for a long time for the Greeting Card Industry so my three main inspirations naturally move towards hand-made cards, art journaling and collage. I love creating characters because they can be altered over and over again simply by colour and doodling scribbled hair, adding a hat or glasses and so much more.
Today and Tomorrow you will see ideas with these stamps from Lauren and Corrie who, I'm sure you will agree, are just fabulously fabulous with a sprinkle of fab on top. They each have their own individual style and I'm blown away each time i see how they've used the stamps to make them completely their own. You can also see plenty of activity on PaperArtsy's Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest. (links at the foot of this post) So no matter what your preferred social media platform, we will be sharing with you!
Let's check out these new beauties, some ideas from each set and a couple of projects.

Halloween
is one of my favourite holidays and these cheerful images appealed to
me straight away. There are so many great ways to use these and I had
trouble limiting myself to just two projects.
Talk
about right up my street. These dog stamps are so cute and this little
guy with his festive Christmas jumper and his little owl friend might
just be my favourites.... and then again; I never could resist a
reindeer jumper!?
The
cats are amazing and, as you will see, not just for Christmas! The cat
with the crackers is just perfect for all kinds of projects. Take the
crackers out of his hands and he could be holding or catching pretty
much anything...
Honestly,
Christmas would not feel the same without some Zinski Cows! I was so
pleased with this gift wrap and tag! I think the moon is going to be
super useful and how cute is that Christmas tree
I
fell for these in a big way. I love the way they look like fabric. I
was very pleased that I could add a button to the tree. I do love a
button! I'm looking forward to making some fabric trees. I already have a
plan forming in my head and my sewing machine is ready. I really like
the little label and I used that on my wrapping paper above too. It's a
very useful stamp to have.
The gingerbread man is also a favourite...
The gingerbread man is also a favourite...
Project One: Eat or be Eaten
I
had in mind a journal page when I made this. I love putting all the
images together to build a story. I've actually made this as a wall
plaque. In Zinski-Land nothing is scary, so I started to think what IF
vampire bats delivered sweets on Halloween like Santa Clause brings toys
at Christmas. A little bit Nightmare Before Christmas? Possibly! But I
make no apologies for that. There will be no nightmares on my watch! LOL
First I sponged clouds onto Regular Smoothy card painted with a layer of Buff Fresco Finish Paint. I used Hickory Smoke Distress Ink and a scalloped circle die cut for the clouds.
Then I stamped it with a canvas print stamp I had in my stash. It's red
rubber but sadly I cannot remember the name - sorry. This is one of my
favourite tricks for creating a cloudy sky and using the grey ink really
added the dramatic look I was after.
Now
you stamp out all the images on gorgeous Regular Smoothy card and
colour them with whatever medium you like best. I used Memento Ink to
stamp my images, coloured with Copic Markers and then add shading with
my pencils. Lately I have started to over stamp as a final layer with
Versafine Clair to give a really nice strong outline. You have to do
this as a last step because the alcohol ink and the pencils smudge the
ink if not (I find the rubbing of the pencil moves the ink because the
ink is formulated to have a long open time) Always dry with a heat tool
afterwards to fix all the ink.
Next
I lay everything out on white paper (no distractions) and work out
which pieces I want to build up. At this stage I will stamp out any
images I want directly on the background (mostly to use as a reference),
start to add details like the eyes and the teeth to the house from set ZA14
to make it into a monster house (I used the eyes from the Trick or
Treat bucket and the teeth from the cake (below). I was SO pleased with
it I even had to send a sneaky peek to Leandra and Elena! LOL. I also
stamped out the group of bats and cut them up to use the wings for the
monster cakes. I think they're so cute!
And
finally I puff the paper using a ball tool and a piece of foam, stick
everything down with foam pads to support and lift where needed, draw in
any details like grass and add glitter or glossy accents where needed
to add an extra level of dimension. Hopefully you can see here a gentle
curve where I've puffed the paper slightly. I've lifted it a bit so you
can see where I've under-stamped it and then to your left a smattering
of glittery spider web from a much loved Hot Pick set.
Ideally I would now spray this with a couple of very thin layers of matt acrylic varnish (my favourite is by Golden) BUT I have sons who like to make models so my acrylic varnish has mysteriously disappeared so I had to skip this step. Job done!

Project Two: Barking up the Right Tree! Ho Ho Ho!
Now
I will be the first to admit that I do like to keep everything pretty
clean and simple but at Christmas time this can definitely be a bonus if
you have a lot of cards to make.
First I stamped
and embossed some of Emma Godfrey's snowflakes from EEG down a piece of
Regular Smoothy using a Watermark ink pad and clear embossing powder.
Next
I grabbed my favourite Distress Ink colour (Broken China) and with a
piece of cut and dry foam I rubbed circles of colour over and around
each snowflake. Looks like a hot mess doesn't it, particularly as I seem
to have picked up the Chipped Sapphire sponge to blend it with(!?)...
but don't panic!
Then
I spritzed with water, left for a few seconds and blotted with kitchen
paper. If it's not right, spritz and blot again. There was a bit of a
hard line I just couldn't seem to get rid of. The splatters definitely
helped with that AND fortunately it was right where I wanted to put my
dog image so it didn't really matter too much. Phew! If I had need it to
be softer I think I would probably have fixed it by brayering a very
thin layer of white paint over the top to soften it all down further.
Now
dab some Distress Ink on your mat and spritz with water. Flick onto
your card with a paint brush or toothbrush or splatter brush, whichever
you prefer.
I
added a tiny touch of Chipped Sapphire ink to the top and bottom edges
of the card to ground my image before adding my dog image and sentiment.
Now
over to Elena to sign off and let you know what she's up to. I know you
are going to love these stamps as much as I do. Tomorrow the amazing
Corrie will show you her much more painterly take on things! I was
absolutely riveted when I took a sneaky peek at her post today. You will
be too! Don't miss it!
I'm back, me Elena. Isn't Lauren incredible at Laurenising these images?! And I agree with her, I've had a sneak peak at Corrie's blog too, I can't wait for you to see it. I hope you enjoy these stamps and have fun making lots of your own hand-made pretties :)
