July 2019 New Product Announcement
A note from Leandra:
Courtney has really followed her own instinct on this collection. Many of you are aware how much she enjoys crochet, she always has a project on the go, and in this collection, she wanted to explore how she could bring crochet and paper together. I think she's come up with some great stamps in the process too! Enjoy!

Hi everyone, Courtney here
I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy. 3 new stamps.
I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy. 3 new stamps.
So
I am a little bit obsessed with crocheting at the moment, or rather I
have been for the last 4 years. I decided to merge both paper craft and
soft crafts into one with this release. I was happy because to start my
idea going I had to sit and crochet the pieces that eventually became my
final ideas for the stamps. I think this might be my best release yet
from the perspective of my editing skillz in photoshop. Not even
University taught me what I'm teaching myself at the moment, and it is
very satisfying to have an idea and figure out how to make that a
reality.
Today
and Tomorrow you will see ideas with these stamps from myself and
another of the Team PA Bloggers. You can also see plenty of activity on
PaperArtsy's Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest. (links at the foot
of this post) So no matter what your preferred social media platform,
we will be sharing with you!
Let's check out these new beauties, some ideas from each set and a couple of projects.

I have always liked collaged elements, so this series is a mix of vintage elements and soft wool from my crochet pieces.
The
image itself was stamped with StazOn pigment onto acetate, so hard to
get the depth on camera properly. I wanted to have some of the
background visible from behind the acetate, and some was blocked out by
painting the reverse of the acetate. More detail on the layers is
explained below.
Eclectica³ Courtney Franich Set 08 (ECF08)
Some
of these elements are ephemera that we have lying about in our PA HQ
stash we use for stamp design, and so I snaffled some bits up and edited
them further with sections of my crochet. I'm a bit obsessed with
squares and circles, so it was a blend of photoshop and actual crocheted
squares that made the final cut for these designs.
A few different things going on in this sample with some crackle, shrink plastic and reverse-painted acetate, all layered onto the same Heavy smoothy brayered card. More details below.
Script
is compulsory when I create my stamps. Luckily we have plenty of
examples of hand written text from vintage postcards collected over the
years. I love the 'half a man' collage, and of course more crochet
circles, this one is a great layer stamp for gel printing or use it
directly onto your layers with white paint is nice too.
The 'half a man' stamp works particularly well on the acetate, same technique as before. I just love how the background shows right through the acetate, and I raised it up with foam pads so that in real life you can see the dimension so much better than in the photos. There are so many details in the background, just look at that gorgeous new script stamp, in fact, you may have noticed some of Seth's new minis in there too if you look closely!
Project One:Half a Man
For all these samples you can see that 2 contrasting backgrounds were created. I started on 12x12" smoothy, one sheet with blue brayered Frescos (Twilight, Antarctic, Beach Hut, Seaglass, Chalk and Mermaid) and the other with orange Frescos (Tango, Haystack, Butter, Tangerine Twist, Chalk and London Bus). All 3 cards were made and layered from the 2 heavy Smoothy 12 x 12" sheets and the lovely new PaperArtsy brayer.
Onto some packaging acetate, the images were stamped in black with the new Tsukineko StazOn Pigment ink. This is an amazing ink, it dries like the normal StazOn, pretty fast, with no need to heat set onto shiny surfaces, but because it is also a pigment, it is opaque, and therefore it has good coverage, nice sharp detail directly onto card, glossy or matte but the thickness of the pigment ink means you also have time to clear-emboss should you wish. It is so nice and dark black, so it is really good on top of paint. For those of you struggling to stamp on shiny paints, this is the answer! In effect it is a hybrid solvent-pigment ink. Crazy but perfect! I really hope they come out with some new colours, there are only 12 so far, and a few of them are a tad boring if I'm brutally honest, but the turquoise is divine, its just the red and green that are a tad boring. But good for Christmas I guess!
Once the image was dry on the acetate, I painted it from reverse, just picking out a few features so that some of the image was left clear to see through to the layer below, and others were in contrasting blue.Occasionally there were pops of Gold added too.
Project Two:Art
The only difference on this sample is the tinted Grunge Paste at the foot of the card. That is Raquel's stencil (PS049) and I tinted 3 ways, with Tango, Smoked Paprika
and London Bus. This way I could ad some 'shading' as I put the tinted
GP through the stencil rather than just a flat colour. You only need 1
drop of paint to tint a teaspoon of GP, so take it easy on the paint!
I found a chipboard word in our Art Stash, and put some of the blue card behind it, painted it dark blue with Twilight and then applied Ranger white Crackle paste on top very thinly. In the heat we are having it was all cracked within 15 mins.
The
little tag is translucent shrink plastic. I sanded it lightly in both
directions, then washed it with watery chalk paint followed by watery
Caribbean Sea and finally watery Beach Hut. You want watery thin layers
so that when it shrinks the texture remains smooth. If you layer it
thick, and then shrink, you will get bubbling, which can be cool, but
not what I wanted here.
Project Three: Genuine
Final blue-orange sample, this time a few Prima tiles at the top, and the quote on the left has been embossed.
The Grunge Paste again used as a border at the top and at the foot (another of Raquel's stencils PS050), often I will tap it gently before lifting the stencil with my finger, and you get a bit of extra texture.
Project Four: Postal Tag
Stamping onto book paper must be one the first ways I ever used stamps, and to this day it remains a fave way to bring a bit of book page into a project.
A Time Holtz fabric flower from one of his trims was painted in China Blue to adorn the top, and dry brushed with Chalk to highlight the frizzy tips.
And I applied the GP, then added paint to it once it was dry. If you add the paint, and then sand it back a bit, you get a lovely contrast where the white GP pops back - handy feature that Grunge Paste is sandable!

Project Four: Postal Tag
Again, a brayered background, but this time a bit more colorful. The dots are from my second release (ECF04)
and I love how they pull the background together. I also knocked it
back a little with some chalk paint before adding the top layers.

And at the base some simple layers as an embellishment.
Project Five: Bright Half Man
I
tried to repeat the background colours onto some stencilled GP, and on
the collage itself/ It really comes to life with colour don't you think!
And I applied the GP, then added paint to it once it was dry. If you add the paint, and then sand it back a bit, you get a lovely contrast where the white GP pops back - handy feature that Grunge Paste is sandable!
