Tonight
we have another take on how to use Jo Firth-Young's stamps with Chris
Cresswell. Chris is a whizz at creating detailed, vibrant journal pages,
let her show you her ideas with these lovely new stamps.
First, a quick reminder of the stamps...JoFY 53/ JoFY54...

Hi
everyone, Chris here.
In this post I wanted to share with you a journalling idea with Jo's brand new stamps she has designed for PaperArtsy.
I am so excited about them! As soon as I knew that the new sets were going to feature doodled flowers, I immediately knew that I was going to create an Art Journal spread with them. I really love the different shapes that can be extended beyond flowers to create heads and bodies for all sorts of quirky, fun figures (something to explore in the future). However, for this particular spread I wanted to use them to create a Garden of Flowers.

When I create a Journal page
I generally work with bold, contrasting colours, this time I wanted to
create a more subtle contrast of colour, so that the focal images would
not be so different to their analagous backgrounds. I was particularly
influenced by the text stamp: accentuate the positive, eliminate the
negative.
I
find my gelli plate is great for producing blended backgrounds. I
wanted a colour contrast that would not overpower the stamped flowers.
So a few stencils created all the interest I needed without interfering
too much with what I was going to stamp on top. Here I used a mix of Kim
Dellow's, Emma Godfrey's and JoFy's: PS048, PS034 (both Kim's), PS056, PS057 (both Jo's) and the mini PM008 (Emma's).
What
I particularly love about all of JoFy's stamps (and I have them all)
but particularly this set, is the flexibility in which they can be used.
All the stems and shapes can be twisted and turned to stamp in
different directions. This is really helpful when creating a lot of
images across a spread. They are also relatively simple to cut out,
which is an advantage when I needed to cut out so many! (Some of these
will be used for another project which you can see on my blog).
Wanting
to reflect the words in the text stamp, I played around with the
'empty' space in the flower head shapes and added more doodling of my
own, thus 'accentuating the positive, eliminating the negative'.
With all of JoFy's brilliant doodling in the stamp images, I couldn't resist adding a few of my own doodles, here and there, across the background to complete the spread.

I
love this Art Journal spread so much that I now intend to create
something very similar, in different colour combinations and on canvas,
for my little granddaughters. I think it will look so pretty on their
bedroom walls. I think these new stamps sets are going to be very
popular.
Doodling is so on trend in the art journaling world but doodled flowers make such pretty cards too, as you've already seen. I'm also determined to use those gorgeous Daisy heads within circles to create some resin jewellery. Great fun. More detailed information about the paint colours I've used and the process can be found on my blog here.
Until next time!
