"I am a retired telecommunications tester/dispatcher living with my DEAR husband/ ideaman in Central Illinois. I have 2 children, 4 grandchildren and 2 grand dogs. I'm also an Art College drop-out...so when I finished 30 years doing something I didn't like, I went back to my love of ART. I started out as a Watercolor artist after my 2nd child was born. Then I discovered stamping...it blew me away. Then collage....and altered art! Oh, I was in heaven. Vintage is where I hang my hat using everything I've learned along the way in all different mediums. The more they overlap, the happier I am. I've been blessed to design for Tim Holtz, Ranger and several others, but sharing is the best part in this industry. Nothing is more rewarding than to see the light in a students face when they've created something they love. Come along with me on this new journey...you won't be sorry"
First I sprayed a Manilla Tag lightly with water. Then using Leandra's technique from her videos, I added Fresco Paints with pieces of Cut N Dry foam. I wanted a warm tag so I started with my lighter colours first (Haystack , Limelight).
Then I added layers of orange hues using Autumn Fire , Smoked Paprika.
This
REALLY is so much fun! Use the foam to "pat"
the paints in a pleasing pattern leaving the inside area lighter. Try to leave
your lighter colors in areas you want for your Winter Wonderland and the Ladies’ Face.
Then I started adding the darker colors Claret, Eggplant and a touch of Hyde Park to the edges. Dry with a Heat Tool.
Next I stamped the images Winter Wonderland and the MedallionLady onto the tag.
Stamp
just the Town image from the top of
the Believe stamp onto the bottom of
the tag twice to make a border.
I inked the stamps with Versafine Ink (Onyx Black) to achieve a "crisper" image as these design have so much fine detail.
The Sharpie
Extra Fine White poster pen is used to add the twinkling stars.
I used Old Gold Fresco Paint and a piece of Cut N Dry to add a gold edge around the tag.
Stamp the Medallion Lady onto a small piece of Smoothy white stamping card
Color the small section with markers or paints and punch out center or trim to fit the smallest Facet. Use Glossy Accents to add to the back of the facet. Pierce a hole in the facet and attach with a jump ring.
I layered my tag onto black cardstock cut about 1/8” larger than my tag, and 1” taller. Then I added the White Pen marks around the tag and tied a piece of white paper string at the bottom. Add your Facet and tie a bow.
The Crinkle Ribbon was the perfect color without adding dye, so I sprayed with water, crumpled it in my hand, and dried with the heat tool. Punch a hole in the black chipboard and tie into a bow at the top of your tag.

is a perfect tag for any one of the cold and wintry months in our area this
year. Hope you agree! Send one to a friend to brighten their day"!

Leandra Says: Fabulous sponging of colour onto the tag, it really pops in the middle where you left it lighter. And yes, I too think Versafine is perfect with Lynne Perrella images - the detail in them is amazing, and after testing several inks, versafine was hands down the best one for me.
Gillian Says: This tag illustrates beautifully how well the Fresco Paint colours blend together without muddying! The added pen detail make the images and warm "fresco" colours "pop" even more. Love this bold and beautiful tag Linda.

ReplyDeleteI am so glad to see Linda Cain's "take" on ParperArtsy stamps and the fresco paints. She is such a talented artist, and her amazing color sense and attention to detail are apparent here! I've never tried fresco paints, but must do so in the near future. Now, I'm off to watch some of your tutorials!

What a fantastic start to the week Linda. Fabulous colours and stamping. I really like the tag mounted on the black card, it frames it so well, and the dots and stars in the white ink really bring it all alive. Can't wait for your next one. Michelle x

Amazing Tag, all your creations have been gorgeous. I'm afraid I'm still on day one, I have already watched Leandra's videos but can't ever seem to blend the paints right, so gave up after about 8 times. But got them back out Monday and tonight I just gave up, I just don't know what I'm doing wrong :-(. Kerry xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Kezzy, are you using foam or brushes to apply the paint. either way, I'm guessing you may be using way too much. Small spots, massage it into the foam, then tap tap tap (woodpecker styley) onto your substrate, have different bits of foam for each colour, switch between foam and slowly build. If you have too much paint, it just gets really well, and its too hard to blend, so very small quantities of paint is much easier.
ReplyDeleteDoes that help?
Or....just come on over and play with me!!! LOL
Leandra x
Oh Leandra I wish lol, wow it would be brilliant to live just around the corner:-) Ok I am using cut and dry foam but I think your right, I might be using way too much paint, it does seem really thick, the clue could be when I sand, and sand, and sand lol, I can't get to the lower level and it ends up all ikky and horrible. Thanks for getting back to me, you have gave me inspiration to have another go, I also found my versafine as well as left me a comment regarding I might find it gives better results. Thanks :-) Kerry xxx
ReplyDeleteAhh, OK that makes sense Kez. If you are having trouble sanding back, then yes, your layers are likely very thick, and also remember the opaque paints would only require 1 coat because they are high coverage. I think you need to look at using the opaque on your lowest level (s) to get a base, say sky/ guacamole mix. Then build up with woodpecker taps on top of beach hut, hey pesto, maybe a tad of pumpkin soup, ie translucent thin layers. you can do this! LOL
ReplyDeleteHi Leandra, guess what, my other half thinks I've gone mad, I'm doing the happy dance!!! I've done it, I've blended and sanded :-) :-) :-). Time to get the rest of them now that I can do everything lol. Just off to decorate, hopefully I shall get it blogged tonight so I can start on another one. Ok I have to admit, it's not brilliant, but I kept at it, slowly went through your video while doing it, all I need to work out now is how I can get my cut and dry clean, I end up throwing them away due to specks that won't come off until your blending with another colour lol.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, as you can tell I'm delighted. Especially now with some more practice I can start on canvas boards etc. Big hugs Kez xxx
Brilliant. So pleased for you that you've cracked it! Watch this video tonight, it might help too. Just posted it last night ;)
