A note from Leandra:
France brings you more of her rusty, grungy style within this release. She explores how colour can pull the eye to a specific focal element, and how push and pull with colours can allow stamps or stencils sit loud and proud, or soft and subtle. If you know France, you will know her heart and soul leads her creative expression, so sit back and relax as she explains this release.

France will be along to share with you LIVE her new products and ideas over in our facebook Group, PaperArtsy People shortly after this post publishes. I hope you can drop by for the live, or try to catch the replay. It's fantastic to hear direct from the designer about each new release and get a better understanding of what she sees as the possibilities!!
For the next few months, these stamps are only available EXCLUSIVELY from our approved stockists. Please check the list at the foot of this post to find a retailer online or geographically near you, it makes sense to order within your country where possible.
Hi everyone, France here
I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy. 3 stamps and coordinating stencils.
The focus with this collection is all about structure and soul. Combining background images with focal point images and text stamps, it is once again, a very versatile series!
I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy. 3 stamps and coordinating stencils.
The focus with this collection is all about structure and soul. Combining background images with focal point images and text stamps, it is once again, a very versatile series!
The heart of the soul
Although this journal page gives a lot of little things to look at, its statement is very simple and clear at the same time!
Having contrasting elements on the set, with the bold numbers and the grungy yet delicate frame is an invitation to play! Be it in an art journal or when making cards and atc's. The same contrast can be found in the background elements: grungy and bold harlequin elements or the delicate edge stamp.
The hanger from the set fits perfectly inside the frame, whether you use it vertically or horizontally. And accentuating the little heart at its center allows for a striking focal point.
Tag on my heart
The bold numbers only make the hanger with the heart look more delicate, no matter how grungy it looks!
To make sure the little heart would stand out, I stamped it on red paper, trimmed it and glued it over the stamped heart on the ATC. This way, it keeps its striking red color. Using the bright blue for the background stamp emphasizes the red heart.
There's a lot going on on this little ATC and yet, it remains very easy to look at, because of how the bold and delicate elements compliment one another.
One structure, many souls
With this stamp set, you can create a soft and delicate card or art journaling spread. Yet you could just as well make it bolder just by inverting the color of the ink. I opted for soft and delicate for this spread.
By stamping the cambric stamps (the clothlike one) with a pale blue, maintaining it in the background, it adds depth without making the spread dramatic. Can you see what would happen had I stamped it with the same brown as the washers? The result would be totally different yet just as interesting!
The smallest stamp on the set can become a very cool edge element when stamped repeatedly. And combined with the washers, it adds to the grungy touch of this spread.
France Papillon Collection Set 036 (FP036)
No fear of heights
If you are wondering who the little boy is on this stamps set, it's my Dad! He was 4 years old back then. And of course I had to make the stamp in such a way that it would fit perfectly in the frame stamp from this set!
To make my Dad's stamp pop from the page, I gave the frame stamp lots of color, in contrast with the rest of the spread. And adding the text stamp from the set on the frame in matching color gave it more depth.
Those who have been following me for a while know how much I love rust. So those washer elements, stamped with watered down vintage photo distress oxide is my new favorite element to add to whatever I am making!
Soul 234
The stencils just like the stamps, combine bold grungy elements with soft and delicate designs. The circle is big, yet so soft and smooth that it allows for a clear statement, even when used with softer colors.
If I had inversed the colors, the circle in black and the word soul in brown, the entire feel of the spread would be different. That is what makes it so interesting: depending on your mood and how you used them, you can come up with something completely different!
I remember an art teacher telling me once that black and blue are hard to combine. I think it works perfectly here! And it is the color that balances out the bold, the soft and the grunginess.
For the love of my heart
Like mentioned above: color will determine the feel with this stencil. Going monochromatic makes it blend nicely in the background. And on that same stencil, you can still find the primary element for a focal point.
After filling the heart with barn door distress oxide, I traced it lightly with a black marker to make it stand out. Simple... and effective.
PaperArtsy Stencil 399 by France Papillon (PS399)
Finding new sensibility
When I start an art journaling spread, I let my mojo guide the way. Starting this one was no different. But I love its bold statement!
I complemented the text with the heart from PS399 for a pop of color. I could have added the words in a different color without the heart to have the same effect though. And I lifted the edge of the bottom image on the stencil to create this edge of the ocean, pier-like element.
I've said it above, I will never get tired of it: rusted elements on my spreads make me happy. Washers, rusted elements make my heart sing!
Feelings within
That same stencil can however be used to create something so delicate. Adapt the colors of the images and your background and it turns into a romantic atc or card!
Using the pale blue ink to go over some of the designs adds so much depth and interest on this dark background. If you don't look, you might not even notice, despite the bold design.
PaperArtsy Stencil 400 by France Papillon (PS400)
Within the soul
When I was done with this spread, it gave me real R2D2 vibes! The little boy is no longer my Dad, but Anakin. Or how your imagination can take you places while creating!
I really like how big and bold the image is. And the little smile gives it all the tenderness it needs. Of course we needed some more washer-like designs on this stencil as well!
Not a fan of Star Wars? Remember the stencil is all about soul and structure in the first place ;) And can you image the colors being inverted? Dark structure and lighter numbers? What feel would the spread have then?
INVERTED
I asked above the previous images: how would it look with inverted colors. Did you notice the numbers on this atc?
So if you don't feel like using this stencil as a main element, it will stay perfectly in the background just as well!
Which one is your favorite? Which one can't you wait to start using? Share in comment and let's inspire one another!
Thank you so much for being here. I'm looking forward to all your beautiful creations using this new collection.
