NEW PaperArtsy Products: Eclectica³ Nicci Battilana {June 2022}

Note from Leandra:
Nicci is our newest designer, and I think this release she is settling into her designer shoes and finding her stamp-design style beautifully. We love to see our designers evolve into their space, and Nicci is getting her groove on! These 3 sets coordinate wonderfully and are a lot of fun to use in journal pages.

Don't forget Nicci will be along to share with you LIVE her new products and ideas over in our facebook Group, PaperArtsy People shortly after this post publishes. I hope you can drop by for the live, or try to catch the replay.

For the next few months, these stamps are only available EXCLUSIVELY from our approved stockists. Please check the list at the foot of this post to find a retailer online or geographically near you, it makes sense to order within your country where possible.

Hi everyone, Nicci Battilana here

I'm so happy to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy. 3 stamps and coordinating stencils.

This release has me so excited! I have always loved anything shiny, be it jewels, glitter or lustrous gold brocade scrolls. I must have been a crow in a past life…..lol. I have also be known to have a fancy for artwork, decor and fashion that is edgy.

Therefore today, I am bringing to you my first release inspired by a trend called ‘Rococo Punk’! Think Marie Antoinette meets Adam Ant/David Bowie with a dash of Sherlock Holmes.

This release is so versatile that you can write a society paper like ‘Lady Whistledown’, create a piece inspired by the Winter festivals of Venice, send out the fanciest of invitations, or just enjoy swatching out your ink and paint collections.

Price: RRP €21.92 +VAT    Size:5" x 6" (13 x16.5cm)
All stamps are individually trimmed onto cling foam with a laminated storage/index sheet.

Eclectica³ Nicci Battilana Set 10 (ENB10)

As collections of dip pens and art inks grows in popularity, I really wanted create a stamp set that would help you celebrate this antique art and letter writing form.

INK SPOTS!, Pen Nib Boxes, Organic Squid Ink….. Oh the possibilities 🥳!

We all cherish ❤️ our art supplies so much that I found it very fitting to create a heart shaped bottle for swatching out your ink 🖋 collections with.

With this stamp set, I can just image you creating projects that celebrate the art of writing ✍️ and sending letters to family and friends… sealed with a fun faux wax seal.

Just imagine the wedding invitations that could be created with this set!

Eclectica³ Nicci Battilana Set 11 (ENB11)

If you are anything like me, you may enjoy creating fun journal pages that also record moments of your life’s journey and a good cup of tea.
On this page, I did a twist on the Bridgerton shows Society Paper to write about my recent 25th wedding anniversary and our daughters graduation. So much fun!

In this photo you get to enjoy the fabulous detailed swirls and roses 🌹 in our ‘Lady’s’ hair.

Eclectica³ Nicci Battilana Set 12 (ENB12)

Leandra created a journal spread with this set. You could imagine him as a Prince regally standing on a balcony for a celebration, or perhaps about to applaud a theatre performance from his personal theatre 'box'.

Within this set there are many useful elements, like the typewriter letters are wonderful in the background...

or can be used to make words of your choosing

This border is just yelling out for colour, but by keeping it muted, it allows other aspects of the spread to be the focus instead. There is some subtle  texture in there as all the images were stamped onto brayered backgrounds rather than flat colour.

Large Size: 6.25" x 9.5" (16 x 24cm) Price: RRP €6.28 +VAT

PaperArtsy Stencil 335 (PS335)

This stencil was created to be representational of damask designs, imagine this on deep rich walls in velvet. But as ever, a Nicci twist is in the mix with some hidden elements often used.

This stencil is so beautiful it can happily be used as the focal point for a journal page on its own, steps explained below to get this stencil to really pop off the page.

Onto a gel print background, the stencil was taped in place and softly sponged with Inky Pool Fresco Paint. To give it a distressed effect, it was lightly sanded. This serves 2 purposes; to smooth the surface to allow the stencil to sit on top again snugly, and it helps the stencilled design blend into the background.

The stencil was repositioned, but to create a shadow from the dark blue under-layer, it was nudged to the right and down a little bit, then again taped in place. Summer Sky Fresco was lightly sponged, then in a second layer, tapped over to ensure that opaque paint fully covered the dark blue paint. Finally some Powder Pink (a new off white, soft pink) was dry brushed from the edges inwards for a deeper contrast. Before lifting off the stencil, some of the Inky Pool paint was used with a script stamp on the ladies.

The final effect 'pops' with the addition of some white pen highlights, it would also be a great idea to use coloured pencil over the paint too for more depth and shading.

PaperArtsy Stencil 336 (PS336)

A classic Dots stencil, and this is super fun to keep on gel printing and building up layers with a limited colour palette to make a ready to go background.

Summer sky, Blue Oyster and Haystack were the 3 colours used, with inky Pool lifting off the gel plate from a previous project. That adds a nice depth and some random texture too.

The circle pattern is loosely accented by the number stamp from ENB12.

PaperArtsy Stencil 337 (PS337)

This damask stencil represents the Yin and Yang or the balancing of decisions we make in our lives.

You can chose to use one segment or the entire stencil depending on what you are creating. One fun option would be to do the left side and then flip it over top to bottom and do the right side. This stencil is so versatile that there are a more that a dozen of options on how to use it.

These stencils are great to use in layers or for creating unique mandalas.
In this close up photo, I now see the opportunity to use him as a gargoyle on a roofs edge or as a narrator of a story. What do you see?

This sample used PaperArtsy's Infusions (Blackcurrant, Are You Cerise, Golden Sands) over PaperArtsy Grunge Paste. This stuff dries so fast, and it can be sanded back to accentuate the contrast. Grunge Paste is perfect to add texture to the details in this stencil design.

Watercolour, mixed media paper, or any porous paper (ie not sealed by Gesso, paint or gel) will give you the maximum contrast allowing the infusions to sink into the paper and only lightly stain the GP. The pitted marks are where the GP was finger-tapped while damp, creating a texture on the surface that grabbed the infusions. But, once dry, and sanded back a bit, you get a grainy texture that is a pretty cool effect.

Project: Lady Gossip Whisperer

On this page, I did a twist on the Bridgerton shows Society Paper to write about my 25th wedding anniversary and our daughters graduation. So much fun!

First I selected the stamps that I thought would be fitting to my own version of a Society Paper and all the finery it’s readers might like. I stamped them into my journal with a black pigment ink.
Next, you want to think about what you may like to write. You can either pre write ✍️ it on the page lightly in pencil or on a scrap piece of paper before you commit to writing it in permanent ink.

From there I make sure that the ink is completely dry with a once over with my heat gun. I find that this is an important step prior to adding colours with watercolour or fresco finish paints. It can be frustrating to get a lot of work done only to have an unexpected ink smudge.

Next I painted in my stamped areas with an3 colour palette 🎨 of watercolour paints.
From there, I went in and added shadows and other tones with pencil crayons.

Once all the pencil work is finished, I plan to add gold embossing to the scroll work on her dress and some clear gloss to her jewels.

Thank you so much for spending this time with me. I cannot wait to see what you create. Have fun!

Keep smiling & creating,
Nicci
