A note from Leandra:
We have a seaside feel today for you, along with another series of fabulous stencils from Sara. I am a huge fan of Sara's stencils - they seem to always be the perfect background element. She adores reverse stencilling techniques, and they are so well suited for those and much more of course!

Hi everyone, Sara Naumann here!
I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy—3 new stamps and coordinating stencils.
I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy—3 new stamps and coordinating stencils.
I don't know about you, but I've been feeling a real pull toward spring (for those of us here in the Northern Hemisphere)... it really does feel like it's been a long time coming! With the dark, gray winter somewhat behind us, it's time to look toward nature for some creative rejuvenation and this time, I'm channeling European mountains and seaside beauty spots, circa the 1950's.
Just before designing these stamps and stencils, I was fortunate to come across a couple of vintage travel books and drew my inspiration from these lucky discoveries. In Germany, where I live, people often set out boxes of free items on doorsteps or by the neighborhood recycling centers. These boxes are marked "zu verschenken" and whatever is inside—often, fabulous old books—is up for grabs. So one rainy morning on my morning run to the bakery, I spotted a box with a temptingly large pile of free books...including one travel book from Summer 1959, with maps and information on seaside and mountain resorts and towns throughout Germany, Italy and France, the former Yugoslavia, and Switzerland. I couldn't believe my wonderful luck. I'll be sure to show them to you in the Live tonight, and we can have a look and a bit of a journey together!

One thing I love about stamping is how many surfaces you can stamp onto—with the right supplies, you can create so much! This time I'm stamping onto wooden coasters, the kind you can pick up at the local craft store. I brayer-painted them with Haze, Marbles and Sand, and did some very faint stenciling with Chantilly.
Travel, adventure and a touch of seashore and mountain resort inspiration is the theme of this collection. I envision these coasters holding a cool drink on a table in the garden on a sunny day! The stamp itself is a collage that includes a map of a seaside town in Northern Germany—if you want to use just the shell, it's easy to snip away. (I'll show you in a project further down in this post!)
Here you can see the detail of the stamping—because the coaster is coated with resin, it's important to stamp with a permanent black ink. I'm using Versafine. Gold foiling around the edges of the coaster adds more shine and dimension.
Mountainside flowers make for a versatile motif—especially a big, bold design that can easily stand on its own. I also used additional stamps from the set to fill in some open spaces on the sides of the coaster.
Gold and blue are such a beautiful combination, so I splattered some Gold paint onto the piece before adding the resin, along with Weathered Copper.
The glossy shine you see along the left hand side is the shine of the resin. This will protect the surface of the coaster and make the wood more durable.
Eclectica³ Sara Naumann Set 61 (ESN61)
Even on a relatively small surface (the coaster measures 3 3/4" square), the large scallop shell can work as a focal image. I played with the positioning to see which section I wanted to capture, and at what angle. So many choices!
The shell is another image that can easily be used independently from the collage elements surrounding it, and looks gorgeous when heat-embossed. (A card example is shown down below.)
I added fine clear glitter (any kind will do) into the clear resin before coating the coaster. This adds subtle sparkle to the piece.
You can also see the faint stenciling from PS324 (you'll see the stencil itself below) behind the stamped image.
I love background stencils that can be used in portions as well as in their entirety. Here I've heat-embossed with blue, then with clear embossing powder, masking off a portion of the stencil so I can include the scallop shell.
A simple squash through the stencil with an embossing inkpad gives you so many options.Try it with just the inkpad in order to get a subtle tone-on-tone effect, or add embossing powders.
While I'm working with some subtle dark blues here, I think the entire piece would also look very cool—and so different!—if it was done in bright, high-contrast colors.
PaperArtsy Stencil 324 (PS324)
This stencil was just begging to be used for a slimline card! It's really easy to combine with paint (I stippled Mermaid through the stencil) and then clear-embossed for a partially-embossed background.
A portion of the shell collage image is overstamped in the top corner... this is the road map part of the collage stamp!
While the stencil offers loads of dimension, popping up the cut-out shell with foam tape will provide even more depth.
PaperArtsy Stencil 325 (PS325)
Normally we stampers love a crisp, clean stamped image... but sometimes a soft slightly blurry image is a cool contrast to a detailed background. Here I reverse-stenciled the background, then stamped the image on top with paint.
A bit of Pea Coat toned down with Haze makes the soft lilac background, a nice contrast to the Cerulean and Autumn Fire stamping.
You can highlight words or sentiments with a fine-tip pen, and emphasize it by painting it in with Pea Coat and a smudging of Autumn Haze.
Project: Adventure Card
Here I've made a card that incorporates many of the techniques from the previous projects—reverse stenciling (two layers!) and resin. Coating stamped paper or tissue with resin is a favorite papercrafting technique for me as it adds shine, dimension and texture to a project and thickens and strengthens lightweight or fragile papers.
First I lightly brayered a piece of white tissue paper with Sand, then stamped the flower with black permanent ink, and embossed it with clear embossing powder. I painted in the flower with a bit of Marbles lightened with Sand, and painted the leaf with Magic Moss. Because the image is heat-embossed, the lines act as a resist and ensure the image isn't obliterated by the paint.
I've also stamped the sentiment onto a spare area of an old book page, then coated that with resin too. You can see the difference between the area with resin and the center of the page, which has no resin.
Leave the papers flat on the craft mat overnight to cure. This is how the flower piece will look when you peel it off! The painted areas are opaque but any unpainted tissue will be translucent.
I reverse stenciled white cardstock with PS324 and Haze, which has immediately become a favorite paint color for me. It's super-versatile and really useful, and adds a soft area of dimension to a background.
The flower was easy enough to cut out, and so I popped it up with foam tape, onto the reverse-stenciled background and added some velvet leaves and bits of vintage lace and some green ribbon.
Here's a last look, where you can see the layers of papers, resin papers and stenciling.
Just think, too—you could easily swap out the flower for either shell in the other stamp sets, too... there are so many ways to take this layout, and these techniques and adapt them in different color combinations or style ways.
Thanks so much for being with me for this tour through my new releases! I hope you enjoyed it, as much as I've enjoyed sharing them with you! A big thanks as well to the lovely folks at PaperArtsy for helping us all come together this way, and for their amazing work at producing stamps, stencils, paints and more with the absolute highest quality.
