NEW PaperArtsy Products: Eclectia³ Sara Naumann {July 2021}

   Eclectica³ Sara Naumann

July 2021 New Product Announcement

A note from Leandra:

These stamps have a soft, gentle, soothing  feel to them with a nice mix of music and nature. I love the delicate colourway too, and can see that all these stamps could suit any occasion with ease.  Can I just say, WOW, how gorgeous is that shell!? Really pretty.

Tonight in PaperArtsy People Sara will share her stamps and stencils, but it is NOT LIVE it will be via a prerecorded video, as she has managed to sneak away on a last minute family break this week. Head on over to PaperArtsy People to see her in action.

These stamps are only available EXCLUSIVELY from our approved stockists for the next 4 months. You can find a list at the foot of this blog post

Hi everyone, Sara Naumann here!

I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy—three stamps and three coordinating stencils.

You'll see a definite nature theme going on here, which is truly one of my favourite topics to explore. You'll
notice a lot of music elements as well in the stamps and the samples... I find the combination of music and nature to be such a perfect fit. We've got some large focal images that you can use as a centrepiece on a card or mixed-media piece, plus lots of smaller accents and border-y types that can be used as is or stamped and re-collaged to suit your project.

As with my last release, I'm still well into my resin obsession, so the project samples you see here and in the video will include resin plus a splash of embossing glitter for extra sparkle. Below I'll show you more on the resin process and you'll see some close-ups on the projects themselves. I'm using a palette of soft Fresco colours that I think go especially well with nature and water: Seaglass (swoon), Crispy Blue, Heavy Cream and Vintage Lace.

Sara Naumann 53 (ESN53)

Think about the last time you saw a butterfly—maybe in your garden or while you were out for a walk. They often show themselves unexpectedly, with a sense of playfulness and joy, as they flitter around. I thought it was appropriate to collage this little butterfly with music notes and the word "joyful" so she's an easy focal for a card or an accent on a journal page. You can also cut around the edges of the image, and I'll show you that in a future sample.

You can also cut apart the words and sentiments to pull individual words, as I've done with the little "happiness" at the bottom right.

The background here is old book paper—I loooove an old discoloured piece of book paper for resin-stamped images. Tone down the text first by brayering lightly with Heavy Cream, then be sure to use a permanent ink to stamp. I added a bit of painted detail with watery Crispy Blue. Then pull out your resin stuff to coat the paper and get additional stability (great with old papers) and translucency. The sparkle you see here is the embossing glitter.

Sara Naumann 54 (ESN54)

I've always loved seahorses—I find them so absolutely unique and lovely, and I'm really pleased to have one in this set. When designing my stamps, I often do a bit of research on the symbolism of the images. (We English majors love a good symbol.) Among other things, sea horses represent magic—hence, the words and sentiments.

To me, any images with relation to the sea inspire thoughts of travel and adventure—so the postmarks and "wanderlust" definition are great for backgrounds and supporting imagery.

Hints of Crispy Blue are dabbed in the outline of the seahorse, just enough to add colour without covering over the stamped lines.

Sara Naumann 55 (ESN55)

When I was a little girl, I had a box of seashells that I loved to play with—lining the shells up, organising them, putting them into groups and making up stories about them. (It was clearly a simpler time back then!) My treasure trove consisted mostly of clam shells, which are easily found on the Oregon coast and not especially pretty or delicate...plus one spiral-twisted shell much like the one you see here. I couldn't tell you where that shell came from or how it happened to be in my collection, but it played a starring role in my seashell games and was considered one of my most important treasures.

The backing behind the shell is a vintage French bill of sale I found in a flea market—I love how the lines balance out the curve of the shell.

The sentiment is actually nicked from ESN54 (the seahorse)—the little snippet of words is part of a definition of "wanderlust" and such a fitting line for this image.

PaperArtsy Stencil PS270 (PS270)

The script-and-circle stencil design adds movement and depth to a background—especially nice for combining with a single focal image. Of course I love a good Grunge Paste background, and this is Grunge Paste on plain white tissue paper, that was first brayered with Vintage Lace. Use some strong, wide double-sided tape to adhere it to book paper for a background with loads of depth.

The seashell from ESN55 is stamped onto book paper, resin-coated and then cut out to be layered onto the stencilled background.

A resin charm and some hemp twine accent the layered seashell. Again, I've pulled from another stamp set and used the word "wanderlust" and the postmark from ESN54.

PaperArtsy Stencil PS271 (PS271)

These wonky letters are easy as backgrounds—whether you stipple them or Grunge Paste them (as I did here)...or coat them with resin and glitter! And while it's meant to be a complete background, this design is also perfect to use in portions.

The pattern of the letters "reads" as a linear one, which makes it perfect in combination with a curved image like the butterfly from ESN53.

Add some glitter evenly onto the paper with the wet resin to get this subtle sparkle.

PaperArtsy Stencil PS272 (PS272)

Here in Germany, we have plenty of old streets with cobblestones that—while not as wonky as the tiles on this stencil—were my inspiration for this design. Nothing is quite even, but you still get the overall geometric pattern and sense of lines and balance. Like PS271, you can use these as a complete background or stencil just portions.

I've stencilled with Grunge Paste onto white tissue paper, using my finger to sort of rub the Grunge Paste into the open areas of the design. I rarely bother with the palette knife... finger-stencilling the paste will give you more control with these small openings. I resin-coated it and layered it onto cardstock brayered with Vintage Lace, Crispy Blue and Seaglass. Sparkle? Again, that's the fine glitter.

I'm also using the seahorse from ESN54 and the words from ESN53 (the butterfly set). Behind the seahorse is some grid-lined notebook paper that I happened to have on hand. Turns out this lightweight paper is ideal for resinning!

Project: Prosperity Seahorse

I've used basically all the new releases for this collage-layered card! I'm always looking to pull elements from beyond one stamp set or one stencil so this project was a lot of fun.

First, prepare your papers. The background paper covering my card front is Smoothy that's been brayer-painted with Crispy Blue. I stencilled the circles and script from PS270 with Grunge Paste. When that dried, I stipple-stencilled the tiles from PS272. When it was all dry, I glued it to the card front, trimmed around and edged it with Seaglass.

Then, the papers for resinning: I stamped the seahorse onto old book paper, and stamped a collage of all three sets (ESN53, ESN54 and ESN55) onto white tissue paper. Be sure to use that permanent inkpad or you will have a smeary, sad mess when you add the resin. I also did some Grunge Paste stencilling with PS271 onto book paper—this creates a beautiful effect when you add resin.

Be sure the Grunge Paste, paint and ink are all totally dry before you add the resin!

Then, grab your resin equipment: Ranger's ICE Resin (or other two-part resin epoxy), gloves, craft mat, measuring cup, stir stick and a tiny piece of kitchen sponge. I usually have a few extra sheets of old paper on hand for resin-coating too, just in case I have leftover resin. The thinner and lighter the weight, the better. I also have some embossing glitter ready to sprinkle onto the wet resin paper.

Now you combine the resin according to the instructions: Fill the measuring cup halfway with part A, then the rest of the way with part B. I use a permanent marker to mark the lines on the measuring cup as they can be hard to see sometimes. Mix gently but thoroughly for a few minutes. You can add a bit of the embossing glitter into the resin mix.

Next, you'll place the paper onto your craft mat and dip a corner of the sponge into the resin. Use the sponge to coat the paper front and back. (On the papers you've brayer-painted, the paint will add another layer to the translucency... I love this effect!)

Once the resin papers are dry—I let them sit overnight—then you can peel them off the craft mat and put them to use on your project. I cut out the seahorse, and used foam tape to adhere it to the collaged background paper.

The collaged tissue paper background is layered onto Vintage Lace brayer-painted Smoothy

The word "prosperity" was stamped onto tissue paper, then resin-coated, cut out and glued to the cardstock. The stencilled number 5 you see at the top left is PS271 stencilled on book paper with Grunge Paste; it's also resin-coated and simply cut into a snippet. (Which means I have lots left over to play with!)

Thanks so much for joining me here today—I hope you enjoyed the samples and tutorial, and have a go with some resin papercrafting of your own!
