NEW PaperArtsy Products: Eclectica³ Kay Carley {June 2021}

  Eclectica³ Collection {Kay Carley}

June 2021 New Product Announcement

A note from Leandra:
We are absolutely thrilled to bring you another gorgeous release from Kay: beautiful summer florals. For this release she has worked so hard to create stencils that allow to you add shade/depth detail so cleverly done for you within the stencil design that you might find that you don't need to stamp the matching image on top. She really does pull out all the stops when designing these so that you can build those impressive layers and depth with ease, which really gets your paint or ink looking like amazing shading, while the stencil actuallydoes all the hard work for you.

Kay will be with us live in PaperArtsy People shortly after this post publishes. It's nice to meet the designer and hear direct from them about this new release, so I really hope you can catch Kay's live or the replay.

Remember, these stamps are available EXCLUSIVELY from our approved stockists for the next 3-4 months.  A list is at the foot of this post.

Hi everyone, Kay here

I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy which consists of 3 stamps with 3 matching stencils.

This release continues with flowers from our garden as my inspiration so we have a mixture of cosmos, heleniums, agapanthus, daisies and a completely made up flower which you will see from my first sample below! The stencils for this release have been designed to help you paint the flowers contained on the 3 stamp sets although 2 of the stencils have some extra designs on there too which I will talk more about once we get to them. So let's go!.....

  New Stamps
Price: RRP €21.92 +VAT
Size:5" x 6" (13 x16.5cm)
All stamps are individually trimmed onto cling foam, presented in a clear hanging bag
with a laminated storage/index sheet.

Eclectica³ Kay Carley 47 (EKC47)

So here is my 'made up flower! As the two other flowers on this sheet are quite solid looking I really wanted a more open type of flower to dot in amongst them or to provide a backdrop so hence this flower was born! I kept all three of the main flower images more or less the same size so that they can easily be used together to create a whole garden full of flowers but as all three are a good size they can easily be used alone too. I also included separate leaves which can easily be stamped onto the stems of all three flowers.

You can see from the photo above that the matching stencil to this set also has the smaller circle type flowers/grasses contained on it which are sized slightly bigger than the actual stamp.

The two photos above show the before and after of colouring the flowers using the matching stencil. Simply stamp your image within a stamping platform, keep everything in place whilst you add the colour to your image using the matching stencil then re-stamp to bring the detail back.

Eclectica³ Kay Carley 48 (EKC48)

The idea for this flower head to be separate from the stem is to allow the flower head to be stamped at any angle you wish. The separate stem can then be added afterwards as too can the frondy leaves. These leaves come as one stamp but enough room has been left to easily snip between the rubber images so that they can be used separately.

You may notice that stencil PS240 from my previous release, has been used in the background. When I was originally designing this stencil I had in the back of my mind that I wanted good sized images to create a backdrop for this release too ;)! You will find that lots of my previous stencils will work really well with this whole release too.

The two photos above show the before and after of re-stamping the detail of the image back in after applying the paint using the matching stencil. To be honest I actually prefer the image before it was re-stamped! I worked long and hard on these stencils to be able to achieve the sort of effect that you can see in that first photo but more of that later...

Eclectica³ Kay Carley Set 49 (EKC49)

I have been wanting to do these flowers ever since I began designing for PaperArtsy and I am not sure why it has taken me until now to actually do them, but now that I have I absolutely love them! Last summer I took an abundance of photos whilst they were in bloom in our garden -photographing them at all different stages within their blooming period so that I had lots of choice for when it came to deciding what stage of 'blooming' I would draw. I would have loved to have had even more of these flowers contained on this set in their different flowering stages but as I wanted them to be a really good size I had to limit myself to just two - it wasn't easy!

This was created using the same large flower head. You will find that throughout my sets I often draw flowers with straight stems (not always but fairly often) - this is because you can then angle the stem slightly when stamping the flower out to create flowers leaning to the left or right as well as upright. The little single flower was also stamped in different orientations to give the impression of each one being different. (The stems to these were drawn in by hand.)

Once again these flowers were coloured using the matching stencil. The flower on the right shows how it looks before I re-stamped it. You will see on the stencil that there are 'complete flowers (with stems) please note that these are NOT used to colour the matching stamps! They are there as extra elements.

New Stencils
Large Size: 6.25" x 9.5" (16 x 24cm) Price: RRP €6.28 +VAT

PaperArtsy Stencil 261 (PS261)

Yayyyy!!! Now we are onto the actual stencils but as you will see from the samples they have been designed to go with the stamp sets. This stencil contains everything you need to colour all the main imagery contained on EKC47 using Fresco Finish paints. However there are a couple of things to note. The stems contained on the sheet do not perfectly align with the stems on the flowers, although they can be used with them by repositioning the stencil now and again. The stems were only really included so that you can use them with the 'base layer' to create background imagery.

The other thing to note with this stencil (and also PS262) are that the 'full flower base layers' are optional. I included these to enable you to quickly block out any background imagery/colour before you begin applying your chosen paint colours. This is super helpful if you want to be colouring your flowers with translucent Frescos

The only other image contained on this stencil that doesn't match the stamps (aside from the stem that I've already mentioned) is the extra bobbly grass/flower image. This was included as an extra background or foreground image. You can just about make it out (in white) along the bottom of the sample above.

PaperArtsy Stencil 262 (PS262)

Once again with this stencil you will find that the stems do not perfectly match the stems contained on stamp set EKC48 but they can be used just be readjusting the stencil now and again as you use it. Just like PS261 the stems were included to be able to create background flowers. All the flower components contained on the stencil do perfectly match the two main flowers on EKC48.

You can see from the photo above that once again I've dipped into using a stencil from my previous release to create my backdrop for this sample as the imagery contained on it is the perfect size to go with this release too.

I cannot begin to tell you just how long I spent on this particular stencil to get the 'layering' of the flowers right as I wanted to give you the option of not necessarily needing to re-stamp after applying your paint. The top photo shows what these flowers looked like before I did re-stamp which I just love! You will find when working through the 'layers' contained on this stencil that you go over what you have previously already added colour to - this is on purpose so that you can either lighten or darken those sections to make them stand out from the surrounding petals.

PaperArtsy Stencil 263 (PS263)

As I've already mentioned this stencil contains complete imagery as well as the steps to add colour to the matching stamps contained on EKC49. These complete flowers were included so that stencilled flowers can be added to create a soft backdrop as you see here or you can mask off the rest of the imagery contained on this stencil with low tack tape and use the complete flowers with paste to create dimensional blooms.

With this sample I didn't re-stamp after adding my Fresco paints to the buds using the stencil but of course you can still go ahead with that step if you prefer.

I really try to 'squeeze' in a lot of elements on my stencils and I do like a butterfly so as there was a tiny gap left I was able to include a small butterfly as well as some tall grasses to add around the base of the flowers.

Project: Summer Flowers

For this project I used all the main flowers from EKC47 and EKC48 to create this landscape of flowers. This was created on 6" x 12" greyboard which I will get around to framing at some point to have as a picture.

To begin I first pained the greyboard with Wolf Eye and then used a combination of Spring, Granny Smith and Mouse Ears to create some grass.

Next up I added my white flowers using stencil PS261 and drew in the stems with a colouring pencil before randomly stamping the wording in white.

The photo above shows how I begin building up my flower scene.

Above shows how the flowers were painted before the detail was re-stamped.

The finished picture above with a few close-ups below.

I hope that these samples have given you a small insight as to what can be achieved using these new designs especially when utilising the matching stencils with the stamp sets. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy playing with them as much as I have!

Love Kay xx
