NEW PaperArtsy Products: Eclectica³ Sara Naumann {April 2021}

 Eclectica³ Collection {Sara Naumann}
April 2021 New Product Announcement

A note from Leandra:
Whether you want to work large on journal pages, or smaller on cards, there are always plenty of options with Sara's wonderful images and stencils. This release sees fantastically bold birds with some extremely handy stencils and I adore how Sara is using resin in her work both for embellishments and to add structure to journal covers made from scavenged papers. Enjoy!

Don't forget we have Sara sharing these stamps live in PaperArtsy People shortly after this post publishes. It's nice to meet the designer and hear direct from them about this new release, so I hope you can catch her, LIVE or on the replay.

Remember, these stamps are available EXCLUSIVELY from our approved stockists for the next 3-4 months. With freight prices soaring due to fewer flights worldwide, it makes sense to buy local within your country, see the list and links at the bottom of this blog post.

I hope you really enjoy checking out these new products today, don't forget to leave a comment for the designer at the foot of the post.

Hi everyone, Sara Naumann here!

I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy: 3 stamps and 3 coordinating stencils, and tell you a little bit about how they came to be.

You'll notice I've combined my beloved nature imagery with another theme: Writing. Whether that's sending a postcard or letter to someone back home, or spilling thoughts and ideas into a journal, writing has always been a solace and inspiration for me just as much as nature itself... so it makes sense to combine the two here.

Another inspiration? I've been working a lot lately with resin epoxy. This is fabulous for jewellery as well as for coating papers to add texture, translucence and strength. This medium is not difficult to use, and has added a new dimension to my work—and turned out to be a perfect companion for these releases!

All of the samples below show resin-coated papers—including kraft packing paper, old book paper, sheet music and white napkins purchased at the supermarket. All the papers have been brayer-painted and splattered with Frescos, namely Limelight, Blue Lagoon, Aquamarine (swoon), Weathered Copper, Prawn, Peppermint, Snowflake and Butter with a bit of Slate here and there.

Eclectica³ Sara Naumann Set 50 (ESN50)

I love a good, substantially-sized botanical element—it's easy to use as a stamp-and-go focal, and can be layered or cut apart. In this case, the leaf takes on a dreamy sort of effect, being stamped onto a brayer-painted napkin and coated in resin.

Crisp black ink gives contrast to the soft and muted paint colours.

I love dictionary definitions (okay, I love any kind of text snippets) and this is a partial glimpse of the "voyage de la nature" line that goes under the leaf.

Eclectica³ Sara Naumann Set 51 (ESN51)

I originally made this project as a card, with the idea that it can easily be adapted into a journal cover or piece of home decor. Those fellow journallers out there will spot some stamps that are perfect for art- or bullet-style journals, and these also coordinate nicely with ESN49 from my January release.

The bird is cut from the collage focal and resin-coated, as is the little twig he's sitting on. (Fetched from the playground by my 10-year-old who had finished her remote-school schoolwork by 10:30 and needed something to do. Thanks, Anna!)

This definition will really come in handy for bullet-style and art journals...I also like it for an accent or as part of a background.

Eclectica³ Sara Naumann Set 52 (ESN52)

With each new group of releases, I always have in my mind the notion that people should be able to easily mix and match the designs between the sets. For this card, I layered a resin-coated napkin on top of a piece of book paper paint-stamped with that large leaf image from ESN50.

White acrylic paint (Snowflake) helps mute back the text on my book paper and adds another layer of dimension.

Layers of vertical and horizontal script creates balance and helps frame the stamped bird. And of course, the resin adds translucency and shine.

New Stencils
Regular Size: 6.5" x 7" (16 x 18cm) Price: RRP €5.38 + VAT

PaperArtsy Stencil 246 (PS246)

Who doesn't like some wonky dots stippled onto a layered background? I love the high contrast of the paint (this time it's Blue Lagoon) paired with white, but you could easily create a gorgeous tone-on-tone effect with the stencil too.

Texture, shine and colour—plus some metal for contrast. (Does anyone else have an inexplicably large collection of metal tags in their crafting stash?!? I discovered I had about twenty squirrelled away from ages ago. Time to put them to use!)

A little edging with paint (Weathered Copper) makes another nice contrast.

PaperArtsy Stencil 247 (PS247)

Lines and stripes pair nicely with botanical images, and this ruler design adds lines plus numbers for a fun effect. (It also works really well with ESN51.)

A border stippled with Slate is a nice contrast to the Aquamarine and Butter-brayered book paper. I loooove Slate in combination with these brighter colors... while it contrasts and blends with the black stamping, it's got this nice gray tone that adds softness.

More vertical and horizontal lines—on the leaf, the stencilling is Grunge Paste sanded back and then over-coloured with Aquamarine and Butter.

PaperArtsy Stencil 248 (PS248)

Wonky yellow (Butter-stippled) chevrons on a brayer-painted piece of kraft paper make a cool upcycled background for this card-with-a-gift. The earrings (made with stamped pieces from ESN51) are hooked onto the stamped birdie from that same set, which has been resin-coated to give stability and strength.

I love easy backgrounds like this one—simple to do with a variety of paints, but that give you so many layers of colour and pattern!

Here's a closer look at the earrings: Inside each metal bezel is a circle-punched piece of stamped, painted packing paper topped with resin. The stamp is from the bird collage in ESN51.

Project: Notes & Obvs. Journal

I love handmade journals, especially those made with re-purposed or found papers and embellishments. But I am a daily journaler, so I need a book that isn't too fragile or that could get battered after a few sessions! For this journal, I painted, stamped and stencilled packing paper, then added a resin coating for durability. The resin paper can still be cut and punched, but won't tear like normal packing paper will.

First I brayer-painted my packing paper with Snowflake, then stamped the EN51 birdie with Black StazOn. This is important, as dye inks will smear when the resin is added. I stipple-stenciled the dots from PS246 and ruler (on the right) from PS247 with Aquamarine. I did some watery Aquamarine splattering on there too.

Before mixing the resin, set up your area so everything is at hand. You'll need to work on a craft mat and it's a good idea to wear protective gloves. Have the window open or a fan going, and be sure to have a pack of baby wipes in case of spills.

Now you mix your resin. I'm using Ranger's ICE Resin, which is a two-part resin epoxy. It's super-easy to use—you'll mix one part of Part A Resin with one part Part B Hardener by volume. Use a little mixing cup (included in most resin kits) so you can measure accurately. Above you can see the thicker, cloudier resin at the bottom of my cup (up to the first black mark); then the clearer hardener added to the second black mark.

Next you'll mix well with a stir stick, folding in the resin as you stir until the resin is clear and any striations are gone. See those air bubbles? They're no big deal since we're using the resin for paper, so don't worry about them.

And finally, take a part of a kitchen sponge and dip a corner into the resin, then use it to coat the packing paper on both sides. Above, you can see the difference between the wet-looking area that's resined, and the part that isn't. Resist the urge to pour the resin on the paper—you just don't need that much. Let the piece dry overnight on your craft mat; the resin will be set the next day (within 6-12 hours depending on temperature and humidity) and will cure within three days. You can work with your paper as soon as it's dry to the touch.

Tip: I normally mix up 2 TBS and will have more resin that I need for this one project...since you can't save the resin, it's a good idea to have a stack of papers on hand so nothing goes to waste.

Once your piece is resined, you can cut it to size and punch holes for a binding. I used some simple metal rings for binding, then tied on some dyed ribbon. Inside I put plain white paper— you could also add pages with pockets or photos or so many other good things that go into lovely handmade books!

Thanks so much for joining me here today! I hope you've been inspired to try something new with stamps, stencils and maybe even a batch of re-purposed paper!

Thanks as always to the PaperArtsy team for creating such high-quality stamps and stencils, and such lush paints to play with—we may still be struggling with lockdown rules and bummer news, but a little PaperArtsy is guaranteed to make things easier.
