NEW PaperArtsy Products: Kay Carley {March 2021}

 Eclectica³ Collection {Kay Carley}
March 2021 New Product Announcement

A stunning release from Kay, her attention to all the small detail is always totally astonishing! In this release you can add colour and texture or build a brick wall with her stencils so cleverly designed! Don't forget to join her live at 7:30pm (London time) in the PaperArtsy People FB Group!

Remember, these stamps are available EXCLUSIVELY from our approved stockists for the next 3-4 months. With freight prices soaring due to fewer flights worldwide, it makes sense to buy local within your country, see the list and links at the bottom of this blog post.

I hope you really enjoy checking out these new products today, don't forget to leave a comment for the designer at the foot of the post.

Hi everyone, Kay here.

As always I'm very excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy consisting of 3 stamps sets along with 6 stencils, 2 of which coordinate perfectly with 2 of the new stamp sets.

Last year I digressed from my usual flower stamps and went with quirky houses along with layered matching stencils. Those stencils enabled paint to be added to the houses very easily by using the steps laid out within the stencil. For this release I wanted to take that same idea and incorporate it with some of my new flower stamps. Is it really bad of me to say that I am SO pleased with how this idea has turned out ?? Anyway I can't wait to show you all of these products so let's get to it....

  New Stamps
Price: RRP €21.92 +VAT
Size:5" x 6" (13 x16.5cm)
All stamps are individually trimmed onto cling foam, presented in a clear hanging bag
with a laminated storage/index sheet.

Eclectica³ Kay Carley Set 44 (EKC44)

This is the only stamp set from this release that consists of completely 'made up flowers'. The image above shows perfectly what I had in mind when designing this set hence so many different sizes of flower heads thus enabling the heads to be easily stacked on top of one another to create tall, bold flowers!

You can see how I have used my new texture stencil PS239 to create some subtle brickwork in the background for this bold flower to sit against.

Layers of paint were used to create the textured looking flower. It's really easy to do too!

Eclectica³ Kay Carley Set 45 (EKC45)

Last year I spent a lot of time in our garden which was just full of pretty penstemons! Seeing all the different varieties and colours of these flowers gave me the initial idea of designing penstemon stamps with a matching stepped out stencil to easily achieve blended colours.

Here's a close up of one of the penstemon flowers so you can see the effect that can be achieved by applying paint through the matching stencil (PS237).

I wanted some smaller flowers on this set too so that they could be used around the main flowers - just like I've done here. However this stamp is still quite big so can easily be used on it's own to create a border of flowers.

Eclectica³ Kay Carley 46 (EKC46)

One of our flowers beds (last year) was just full of these flowers although I've used 'artistic license' here! These stamps are based on verbena which are actually lilac/purple coloured flowers not pink and orange! But of course they can be any colour you want them to be!

This set also has a matching stencil to enable paint to be added to the individual flowers quickly and easily :).

Here's a close up showing how those flowers look when used in conjunction with the matching stencil.

New Stencils
Regular Size: 6.5" x 7" (16 x 18cm) Price: RRP €5.38 + VAT
Large Size: 6.25" x 9.5" (16 x 24cm) Price: RRP €6.28 +VAT

PaperArtsy Stencil 236 EKC - Large (PS236)

This particular stencil DOES NOT PERFECTLY MATCH stamp set EKC44. However it does complement the stamp set really well as it allows you to add leaves and stems to those individual flower heads as well as creating a backdrop of similar looking flowers.

The way the leaves have been set out on the stencil enables you to easily choose both left and right leaves for your flowers.

Although the stencil flowers do not 'perfectly' match the outlines of the stamp set flowers you can still use them with the stamped flowers but in a slightly different way! You will find an instruction sheet contained within the packet giving instructions on how I use this stencil with the stamped images.

PaperArtsy Stencil 237 EKC - Large (PS237)

Here's the stencil that matches the penstemon stamp set (EKC45). I've got to be honest - this took me ages to get absolutely right but I am really pleased with the end result :). When I was designing this I had absolutely no idea if it would work or not so I was SO relieved when I tested it out for the first time and was able to get the results that you see here! Phew!!!!!

The above photo shows what the image looks like before stamping all the detail back in.

And here's what part of the flower looks like once the image has been re-stamped over the top.

PaperArtsy Stencil 238 EKC - Large (PS238)

This stencil perfectly matches all the flower heads on stamp set EKC46. Unfortunately there just wasn't enough room for the stems to be incorporated as well but it is pretty easy just to paint those in the normal way ;).

This shows how the flowers look before the detail is stamped back in and to be honest I think they look really pretty as they are so of course you don't have to re-stamp the flowers if you don't want to.

Here's what they look like with their stems added and painted and the detail re-stamped.

PaperArtsy Stencil 239 EKC - Regular (PS239)

As I was designing the stamp sets I knew that I wanted to be able to have some sort of wall behind the flowers so hence this stencil contains both brickwork and stone! I call this one my 'textures' stencil as when designing it I had in the forefront of my mind that it would be fab to use the background elements on it with Grunge Paste ;).

The butterflies on here perfectly match the butterfly stamps on EKC45 and the wording is from EKC46.

Both the brick and stone designs on the stencil have been designed to make a complete wall if you so wish.

PaperArtsy Stencil 240 EKC - Regular (PS240)

With this stencil I wanted to be able to achieve a grass/flower backdrop for both the smaller and taller flowers so hence this stencil incorporating two different sizes of imagery. This also enables it to be useful on both smaller and larger projects.

Normally I want my stencilled imagery to be super crisp but sometimes if I want it to represent more of a blurry image (as a backdrop) I will purposely create a more smudgy effect by using my stencil brush in a swiping motion instead of a tapping motion. This then creates a 'soft' backdrop rather than a crisp, defined one.

Once again I wanted a soft, patchy, smudgy backdrop for my main imagery to sit upon but this time I applied colour to the flower and butterflies. You'll notice that I also went for the same smudgy effect with the background writing!

PaperArtsy Stencil 241 EKC- Regular (PS241)

This stencil was originally designed as background flowers for stamp set EKC46 but it looks great by itself too without any stamped main imagery (apart from the words).

You can see that I have obtained dimensional flowers using this stencil but I didn't use Grunge Paste - or indeed any sort of stencil paste!

The grass elements from the stencil were used to create the lime green grasses along the base of the panel.

Project: Slate Heart

I've been wanting to have a go at stamping onto slate for some time now so that I can have my own decorated chalk board that I can use to write different reminders on.

I began by stenciling some grasses using Snowflake fresco. Once the paint had dried I then lightly coloured on top of the white paint with a green pencil but I allowed some of the white to still show through to provide highlights.

I then used Snowflake to stamp my flowers and butterflies. You can see on the left of the heart that I didn't apply quite enough paint to begin with but as the imagery was only to provide a framework for me to add paint to it didn't matter.

Next I painted the flowers and butterflies in opaque colours. Stems were painted onto the flower heads and green pencil was used for the fine lines to the individual flowers.

More detail was painted onto the flowers and butterflies before dry brushing around the heart with Snowflake and writing my 'reminder' with a white erasable chalk pen.

As always I am really looking forward to creating more projects with this latest release and I am especially looking forward to showing you how easy it is to use these stamps and stencils together through both demos and online classes. You will find out when these events are taking place by visiting and joining my Crafting with Kay Carley Facebook Group as I share all my relevant information in this group. I hope to see you there!
