2020 #6 Topic Introduction: Jungle Vibes

 2020 Topic 6:Jungle Vibes

Hi everyone, Keren here. What do the words 'jungle vibes' conjure up for you? You might be like me and start humming 'ooh wim-o-weh, wee-ooh wim-o-weh' or possibly 'it's the circle of liiiiiife'! More likely you'll be thinking about jungle vegetation or exotic insects and powerful prey-hunters. Artistically, we can get hung up on being too literal..this topic is all about vibes rather than replication. So let's see what the jungle has to offer.

I did have a few challenges getting some PaperArtsy inspiration. It seems we've not felt the vibe much previously, but that's about to change..I can hear the jungle drums! Firstly I wanted to show a new release for those wanting the latest jungle'y loveliness.

... and I've found this one too.. it's a real beauty. She's using the same theme and been clever using Lin Brown's 002 stencil to tie it all together.

For those who enjoy the quirky..how about using disparate images and melding them together? The result is fun and fascinating although the frenzy of flies on the leaves makes me slightly uncomfortable!

You can take the topic literally or think a little more figuratively. Thinking about the design in fur and the texture. Aren't this cheetah's markings stunning?! (yes, I realise they're more likely to be in a savanna but we're talking 'vibes' remember!!).

If we're going to get precise, the only real large predator of the African jungle is the leopard and I love this zentangled version.

There are many iconic shapes that shout 'jungle' and I love the vivacity and boldness of colour in this piece of art by Ken Ruzic.

Lots of us find benefit in therapeutic colouring or painting. This is a lovely example of just pencil colouring in a colouring book.

Being a buyer of unique rings, this one rather caught my eye. Caught in resin, this beautiful beast is rather regal.

There are more sophisticated 'ins' to this theme. This is pretty amazing decor for the littlest room. By adding teals and brights, it brings a modern look to the scene.

Surprising combinations sometimes work perfectly. This fun tigers head goes so well with the hydrangea head.

This fun party is all the more special by the clever details. Love the print balloons and the party hat festooned animals.

This next piece is so full of life and colour and definitely has a jungle vibe. Notice the free strokes and the bold spots.

The Embossed Resist techniques works so well here. There's a wonderful jungle'y feel to it.

If you search around this topic, you'll find lots of Victoriana and this botanic style illustration really appealed. Using leaves to hint at the topic is another way to approach it.

This next designer is a particular favourite of mine. She creates superbly detailed fabric designs which sometimes have hidden animals in them. This is perfect for our theme.

If you're still wondering how to create along with us, maybe this clever altered book might give some inspiration.

or even this one. It's as if the jungle is spilling out of the pages!

Forgive stretching the definition again, but this lion looks rather good with a floral crown. King of the jungle (or savanna!) indeed.

This talented bead artist has produced incredible work. Zoom in to see the bead detail- it's amazing!

What is one to do when one has a large collection of designer handbags? Create a paper-crafted backdrop worthy of them! The embroidered clutch at the top looks like it's right at home.

To finish off, we're heading back to the Victorian inspired and this is a clever patterned wallpaper, updating the look with a bright mustard with a look of damask.
