NEW PaperArtsy Products: Sara Naumann {January 2020}

 Eclectica³ Collection {Sara Naumann}
January 2020 New Product Announcement

More gorgeous stamps from Sara all inspired by a trip to Paris in the Spring of 2019. Leaves, ephemera and key words allow all kjinds of flexibility. I really love Sara's stamps, the way they can be layered up over paints, stamped into texture paint, or embossed. They lend themselves with ease to all sorts of crafty fun!

~ Leandra

Hi everyone, Sara Naumann here!

I'm excited to show you my newest releases for PaperArtsy—3 stamp sets and 3 matching stencils. I had a chance to combine them with some new (swoon) PaperArtsy paints... blues and greens are my favorites to work with and in this case they just come together perfectly with the stamps and stencils. (And a little bit of Grunge Paste too!)

Last spring I spent a few days in Paris for the annual Version Scrap show. It was my first time attending the show and I fell in love with a very distinct French style of papercrafting—a kind of messy-but-minimalist effect with precisely balanced color and white space. Totally my vibe and perfect for design inspiration.

Of course Paris itself is an inspiring place, and I found myself collecting all kinds of printed ephemera and taking lots of photos of everyday life—from the colorful piles of fruit and veg at the markets, to the flower stalls, boutique window displays and the too-pretty-to-eat cakes at the patisserie. (I lie: They are pretty but of course I ate them.)

This January collection is all inspired from that trip, with a mix of ephemera, some market-inspired botanicals and journey-themed quotes and sentiments. Enjoy!

Let's check out these new releases, some ideas from each set and a couple of projects.

  New Stamps
Price: RRP £18.74 +VAT
Size:5" x 6" (13 x16.5cm)
All stamps are individually trimmed onto cling foam, presented in a clear hanging bag
with a laminated storage/index sheet.

Eclectica Sara Naumann set 41 (ESN41)

I love leaves! They can work beautifully for spring-themed designs and create a botanical vibe without a flower-specific image. These bold images are perfect for creating a striking focal on a painted background (here it's Khaki) and when you emboss them, they give extra shine and a resist to the spattered Paua Shell paint.

Eclectica Sara Naumann Set 42 (ESN42)

My trip to Paris was a solo one—and this quote fitted my experience perfectly. I love this sentiment for journey-themed card occasions like graduations or moving, and also for more introspective journal pages too. In this card, I've embossed it over a Blue Moon background. (Keep your eye on the gold-embossed stencil background...I'll show you the PS178 later!)

Eclectica Sara Naumann Set 43 (ESN43)

Yes, I carried this leaf around in my purse for the day, having spied it lying on the path in the Parc Florals and swooped it up, thinking: This will be a gorgeous stamp! I love it overlaid onto an old letter I bought at the flea market (they saw me coming, I am quite honestly the worst bargainer). And of course you can cut around the edges to work with the leaf as a single shape—more on that below!

New Stencils
Regular Size: 6.5" x 7" (16 x 18cm) Price: RRP £4.60 + VAT

PaperArtsy Stencil 176 (PS176)

I adore circles as super-useful background elements and this stencil does the trick for creating movement without overpowering the focal. In this case, the Grunge Pasted circles also echo the circular postmarks on the stamp from the sentiment in the ESN42 set.

PaperArtsy Stencil 177 (PS177)

I walked all over Paris—and this stencil is from a simple photo of a city sidewalk. It gives some nice depth to a project and of course you can have it go from either side, or facing up or down. I'm in love with reverse-stenciling, so I like to brayer the paint (in this case Khaki) onto the stencil, then press my cardstock on top. The focal is a Grunge Pasted portion of the lovely PS178 which you'll see more of below!

PaperArtsy Stencil PS178 (PS178)

This stencil has a ton of elements which means you can use it in its entirety or just bits. I happened upon a cafe in a little neighborhood which had this gorgeous old blue wallpaper covered with gold embossed designs, and I realize that cafe wallpaper was in my mind as I made this piece! In this case I'm not going for crisp and perfect; I want that handprinted, vintage effect, so I was deliberately heavy-handed with the embossing ink. The little white leaves you see behind the stamped sentiment are Grunge Pasted from the stencil and cut out as accents.

Project One: Collaged Leaf

I've been working a lot lately with Grunge Paste layers—I love the easy texture and how you can get such varied looks. So let's take a look at reverse-stenciling with Grunge Paste, and then stamping on top.

First I put the PS177 stencil onto my craft sheet and applied Grunge Paste to the surface of the stencil—if you want to make a spare background, just put a piece of card underneath. For the main technique, though, you want the paste on the plastic.

I brayered a piece of white card with Khaki, leaving some white areas. So now you have a Grunge Paste-y stencil and a painted piece of card and you just press the card right onto that stencil. Note: Be sure to remove any cardstock or scrap paper you have underneath the stencil.

Just like this—be sure to press all over the cardstock and then lift straight up. Grunge Paste dries quickly so you don't want to leave it on there too long or it will get stuck and tear.

Then once the background is dry, you can stamp on top. I use a MISTI so I can stamp twice—here I'm using Versafine Nocture ink, but your favorite black inkpad will probably work just fine. Afterwards, I spattered the piece with watery Marbles and layered some other stamped elements on top too.

Project Two: Bliss

I'm all about this Marbles-paint-and-gold-embossing combination. (Can Marbles have overtaken my love of Mermaid Fresco???) In this case, I wanted to show a reverse-stencil embossing effect and then also turn that leaf into something that looks a bit more like a feather.

I made the background using the same reverse-stencil technique as we saw with the previous example—but rather than applying Grunge Paste to the stencil, I pressed  with embossing ink. The background is painted with Marbles and then pressed onto the inky stencil. Lift off and cover with gold embossing powder... you'll get the scruffy look of the circle centers and the cool contrast of the crisp lines.

Set the background aside and stamp the leaf onto Khaki painted card. Cut it out and emboss some areas with gold.

Apply some Grunge Paste to the leaf, using a portion of the PS178 stencil.

To layer, create 3 leaf versions: First, stamp the whole leaf onto a piece of Blue Moon-painted card (far left) and die-cut into an oval. Stamp a second leaf on Blue Moon-painted card and cut out, then gold-emboss the edges (center). Then take your third embossed and Grunge Pasted leaf and arrange them all in a cluster on the circles-embossed background.

Hopefully these projects have inspired you and maybe even give you a little glimpse of Paris. (And if you ever see someone collecting leaves from the ground or taking photos of the sidewalk or scrutinizing old wallpaper...well, it's probably me!)

A big thank you for joining me here today... and to the lovely team at PaperArtsy HQ for always bringing us the most inspiring designs and top quality.
