2019 Topic 18: Shaving Foam
Well
hello everyone, Keren here with our topic for the beginning of
November; Shaving Foam Marbling! I'm not known for messy crafting but
this seems like constrained mess and an easy technique to boot! This
colourful photo links us to the how-to's of the basic technique written
really clearly.
To
begin our delve into all things squishy, Miriam Grazier shows some
majestic marbling using PaperArtsy Frescos and Sara Naumann stamps.
We've also another lovely PaperArtsy blogger ; Wanda Hentges showing just how effective one colour marbling can be.
This next blogger shows a really cool technique with a fine needle in order to make some wonderful fine patterns on the surface.
Don't
restrict yourself to cardstock- how about fabric. Using a limited
neutral palette creates a cool effect and this is one surface I really
would love to marble upon.
Marbling as a background produces such a wonderful textural effect, and this riot of colour is a fantastic example.
I've
included another project from Wanda as it shows how a different
technique of spreading paint to create a ringed wood slice effect!
This
next piece is stunning and shows how using a simple contrasting image
can really bring the marbling to life. It also uses alcohol reinkers to
create the colour onto the marble.
I've
always thought that hanging out the washing is always a boring affair!
Making your pegs a tad more interesting might just help improve the job!
When
we think of marbled papers- we can imagine the inside or outer covers
of old books. These envelope inserts look traditional and yet modern
with the choice of colours.
Depending
on how you swirl the coloured shaving foam, you can get intriguing
effects. This maker swirled tiny circles and ended up with roses!
Heading
back to the PaperArtsy blog for a cracking canvas, Lucy shows that this
technique can be created with Fresco Acrylic Paints on more than just
cardstock.
Following on from finding different surfaces, this idea would be wonderful for brightening up your outside space.
We've
seen Acrylic paints, alcohol ink reinkers and watercolours used, but
how about ransacking your marker pen refills? This is a traditional
pattern but using a less conventional colour medium.
This
next technique is my favourite as it uses less foam but on top of
acrylic blocks. It also incorporates ink pads, so is a different take
there too. Best of all, it's quite controllable and involves swathes of
colour rather than intricate patterning.
Lastly
we have a sweet little project which sparkles with the addition of gold
leaf. This would be equally great with embossing powder or Gold Acrylic
paint.
You're going to love the projects we have coming up for this topic. We
are not doing the linked challenge for 2019, so if you want to create
along with us and this topic, please share on our social feeds so we can
see what you get up to. The best places are Instagram @paperartsy or post in PaperArtsy People Group on Facebook. Make sure you tag us in your contributions, we love to see what you get up to in your creative world!
Sich a fabulous topic with so many possibilities. It has been one of my favourite techniques this year! I love the inspiration you've found for this!
