2019 #14 Inchies & Twinchies: Keeping it Simple with ECF {by Nikki Acton}

2019 Topic 14: Inchies & Twinchies

One of the great things about using inchies and twinchies is that they produce a calming order and designs that are easy to assemble. There is a wonderful texture that Nikki has produced by brayering. With using gorgeous subtle colours it has resulted in an elegant design punctuated by lovely textural crochet dots!

Hi everyone, it's Nikki from Addicted to Art with you today, sharing a simple card design using Inchies or Twinchies.

There is nothing original about the layout, check out Pinterest for lots of inspiration using little squares to create different card designs. I love that it is a great way to use up background scraps or a great excuse to make lots of backgrounds as I have done here using stamps from Courtney Franich and lovely PaperArtsy paints!

So first of all I must confess the squares are neither inchies or twinchies but actually 1 1/2 inches square. I began by brayering various colours onto to some strips of Smoothy card. I used Blue Lagoon, Banana, Bougainvillea and Eggplant Fresco Chalk acrylics but the Banana strips didn't make this card!

I ensured I didn't get total coverage of paint on the card leaving the lovely textured effect the brayer creates and once dry I cut all my squares (1.5 inches sq).

I selected my stamps and stamped on the squares in a coordinating colour of Archival ink. Most of the stamps are from Eclectica ECF08 with the crochet effect circles and words being from ECF07.

Those crochet circles are a favourite of mine - either the entire stamp or punching out the little circles as accents as I have done on this card. If you don't have punches they are easy to cut out too.

I love how these stamps work so well as background stamps - the textures, tickets and postmarks providing the right amount of detail without dominating each other.

  2. Oh no - I badly want to come up with a clever name for your one-and-a-half-inchies, but it won't come! Love the colours and the choice of stamps here - those partial and patterned images are really intriguing to the eye... I want to know more, but the bold black borders leave me in anticipation! Love the tone on tone stamping too. Brilliant card.

    Alison I'm led to believe that something in-between an inchie and a twinchie is called a betwinchie- happened upon it when I was growing the web . :)
