The most adorable things always seem to come in small packages, and how dinky are these! The texture jumps out to be touched, and Nikki uses tissue perfectly over that texture ~ Leandra. 

Hi everyone, it's Nikki from Addicted to Art with you today. I'd like to share with you a couple of mini books I have made with my go to technique with tissue paper.

I often use tissue paper to add a stamped image to a textured surface; this a simple but really useful technique to add some words or an image to an uneven or irregular project.

My mini books are 6cm square with greyboard covers. I use thick cardstcock - eg PaperArtsy Smoothy Stamping card to cover the greyboard; so I start out with a piece of flat, scored card.

For each of these covers I painted the card with Fresco Acrylic Paint (Chalk) before adding Grunge Paste through a stencil.

Above I used one of my favourites from Kim Dellow - PS034 and for the green book - PS092.

Once the Grunge paste was dry, I built up patches of colour on each of the book covers - making sure I reached into all the crevices of the texture. This is a fairly forgiving technique as long as you don't create mud as we knock it back with dry brushing later. To avoid mud I heat dry between layers of contrasting colours but am less fussy about layers of complementary colours. 

For the Green book I used: Hint of Mint, Toad Hall, Granny Smith and Magic Moss. 

 

For the Blue/Mahogany book I used: Venice Blue, Glacier Ice, Steel Grey and Spanish Mulberry.

Once dry the texture is highlighted by dry brushing. This can also be used to knock back the colours a little bad. I nearly always start with white paint (Fresco Acrylic - Chalk), dry brushing until I am happy with the result. For by green cover I then dry brushed the textured areas some more with Granny Smith.

My words and also the random pattern on the Green book are stamped on tissue paper with archival ink - the words in Black Archival and the scribble in a green archival - eg leaf green. Another benefit of stamping on tissue is you can use only part of the image / phrase - as I have done here - splitting the fabulous word phrase into two - some for the front of the book, some for the back.

In contrast, I took the swirly funnel stamp and stamped multiple times on tissue to create a random pattern that I then used. The tissue is adhered with matt medium over the surface. I also used the round 'Target' stamp on the spine of the book cover.

A simple use of tissue stamping, but so useful for those textured projects.
