2018 Topic 17: Tissue Paper
If
you have a lumpy background, then tissue paper is often the answer to
getting a stamped image onto your background. Josefine's sailing ship
has so much detail that is still looking perfect on the textured
background she made with other plentiful paint layers! ~ Leandra
Hello
everyone! Josefine here with a nautical art journal page. I love to
work with tissue paper - for mono printing, mixed media projects, to
stamp a crisp image and then add it to my journal, and so much more.
For this page, I decided to go with a nautical theme, so I picked the Scrapcosy stamps ESC 10, 11 and 12.

I
started by stamping all the fishes and sea creatures that I wanted to
use for this page onto some leftover pages that I used to clean up my
Gel Press. I love tissue paper for the exact reason, so I can use them
later on to "color" stamps.
Then
I fussy-cut all the images. I also painted the first layer for my art
journal page by adding little drops of Fresco Finish paints in Venice
Blue (FF133), Glacier Ice (FF132), Jade (FF97) and Blue Lagoon (FF131) and spread them from left to right using a slightly wet paint brush.
After
adhering all the fish using Gel Medium, I added another layer of paint.
This time I applied the same colors using a brayer to give it a much
grungier look. That also allowed me to cover the page just partially, so
the fishes were still visible in the background.
Next,
I stamped this amazing ship onto some orange/ yellow tissue paper and
adhered that, including a few scrap pieces, to the page. I wanted it to
look like the ship is sailing into the sunset.
To blend it into the picture a little more, I used Fresco Finish Glacier Ice (FF132) and applied it with a brayer and by stamping some of the sentiment stamps randomly all over the page.
Those
white sentiments make the page look old, like an old map. It also
reminds me a little bit of the movie Pirates of the Caribbean - when
Jack travels between the worlds with his ship.
As
you can see, tissue paper is perfect to stamp a crisp image and then
add it to your art journal page. My journals are usually super bulky, so
it's hard to get a clear image. With this technique, I don't have to
worry about that at all.
Have
you ever worked with tissue paper? If not, give it a try. There are so
many more options with it. I hope that my journal page inspired you to
get your stamps and paints out and get creative yourself!
