New PaperArtsy Products: 2018 Xmas {Kay Carley}

NEW PaperArtsy Products - August 2018
 Eclectica³ Collection {Kay Carley}
Seasonal Stamps

In this post we have a wonderful VERY SPARKLY selection of Christmas offerings from Kay Carley. She has thought a lot about layering,sizing and co-ordinating elements which is always awesome at Christmas when we like a bit of 3D fun and glitter, it makes those cards and embellishments really pop! ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, Kay here to show you my newest products designed for PaperArtsy.

For this release I really wanted to create a collection that could be mixed and matched together seamlessly to create lots of different projects. I purposely tried not to have any imagery that was too big so that smaller cards could be catered for as I know that not everyone likes to do big cards at Christmas time! However you are not limited to a particular size of card/project as you simply adjust the layout of your stamped composition to suit; thus these sets cater for just about any size or style of card - this was something I had at the forefront of my mind when designing them.

I also wanted the individual sets to be as 'versatile' as possible with each other and other stamps that you may possess. For instance you will notice that the baubles contained on EKC22 do not have any decoration inside them. This was done on purpose!! Having plain baubles means you can create a multitude of different looking baubles simply by stamping them onto patterned paper, onto backgrounds that you have created using inks/stamps etc... or by stamping other stamps or parts of stamps into the baubles.

The snowflakes that are contained on EKC23 have been sized so that they will work together to create a background or you can layer them up to create a dimensional snowflake. The large 'snow' wording can also be stamped onto patterned paper etc... plus you can easily snip between the letters so that they can be used individually which means you can change both the spacing and the orientation of them and that little snowman......well.............he's been sized so that he will fit into the baubles as well as the 'snow' wording itself!

Lastly with the flower/poinsettia based stamp set you have two separate sizes of flowers that can either be used individually or together to create dimensional flowers of different sizes. Once again all the elements on here have been separated out so that you aren't restricted to being able to do just 'one' thing with them.I would have liked to have made loads more samples to show you all the ideas that I had in my mind when I was designing these stamps but as ever time ran away from me!!

  Kay's New Stamps

Price: RRP £17.08 +VAT
Size: 5" x 6.5" (13cm x 16.5cm)
All stamps are trimmed onto cling foam, and are presented in a clear bag with a laminated storage/ index sheet

Eclectica³ Kay Carley Set 21 (EKC21)

Contemporary Poinsettia
using EKC21

This shows one of the ideas I had in mind when designing this set. I thought by having separate flowers, leaves etc... you could then make a contemporary looking poinsettia flower simply by drawing in a stem.

Plus you still have that option of having a more traditional poinsettia if you so wish.

Hanging Poinsettias
using EKC21

When I popped the border stamp onto this sheet I thought that it would also make a great element to suspend the flowers from.

When I was initially designing the border stamp I was in a quandary - I could either design it so that it could be repeated (i.e. stamped several times to make a long border) - which would be quite hard to line up, or I could make it as long as possible (17cm) so that it would fit across most cards - as you can see in the end I chose to go with the 'long as possible format!! I hope I chose right!

Eclectica³ Kay Carley Set 22 (EKC22)

Joy, Peace & Love
with EKC22

As I've already mentioned in the introduction; when designing this stamp set I made a conscious decision to have just the outline of the baubles as this gives you the choice of what to put into them.

I have kept with the stamps contained on this sheet  to decorate my baubles along with some freehand pen and paint work, but there are going to be so many different ways of decorating these baubles. I really hope you will share what you do with them by tagging me on social media as I love to see what others create!

Eclectica³ Kay Carley Set 23 (EKC23)

Snow Is Falling
using EKC23 and 'Bert & Twinkle' from EM25

This illustrates perfectly what I had in mind when designing the large 'snow' word on this sheet as I thought it would be lovely to be able to suspend the letters individually as if they are hanging baubles.

Bert and Twinkle have made a 'guest' appearance  on this card as robins!! (For anyone who doesn't know who Bert & Twinkle are - these are the bird's names from my mini stamp EM25!!)

When designing this stamp I purposely left enough room between the letters of the 'snow' word so that they could be easily snipped apart with scissors thus allowing them to be stamped individually easily.

Kay's New Stencils

Price: RRP £4.60 +VAT
Size: Regular 6.5" x 7" (16cm x 18cm)

PaperArtsy Stencil {Kay Carley} 118 (PS118)

Let It Snow
using EKC23 and PS118

This particular stencil is already a firm favourite of mine! I have used the snowflake part of the stencil on the card above to create the blue borders and also as a subtle background for my stamped snowflakes.

My favourite thing to do at the moment is to stipple Metallic Glaze for a  beautiful subtle shimmery background. You can also see how I cut out a section of the stamp design within the small star/ smowflake.

Think about using the stencil with a glittery paste or Grunge Paste or even embossing just the snowflakes  with an embossing mat and a die-cutting machine.

Let It Snow
with EKC23 and PS118

This card shows how I've used the snowflakes as a background again and then I stippled Fresco Finish paints through the 'Snow' word and applied a glitter paste.

The snowman from  EKC23 was sized so that his body fits both within the 'o' and the 'w' of 'snow'.

By the way I feel that this snowman needs a name - any ideas????
..........but not 'Frosty' !!!
..............or 'Snowy' !!!!!!

PaperArtsy Stencil {Kay Carley} 119 (PS119)

Wishing You a Happy Christmas
using EKC21 and PS119

With this stencil I have given you both the stencil and the cut outs of the flowers and leaves so that you've got the masking elements too which can sometimes be quite handy to have!

The stencil flowers and leaves perfectly match their stamped counterparts which allows you to be able to mix and match them together easily.

One of my favourite things to do is to use the stencil to create a two tone flower. I then take the matching stamp and stamp it over the top. I don't mind if it doesn't perfectly line up by doing it this way around as I think it looks quite 'arty' but if this bothers you then you can of course stamp your flower first and then pop the stencil over top of your stamped image to create your two toned or multi toned flower. However if you are using opaque colours of paint then I find it is better to use a 'stamping platform so that any lost detail from using the opaque paint can be stamped back in. Hope this all makes sense!!!

I thought you might find it helpful to see how I mark both my stencil and the pop-out masks along with the matching stamps - this saves a lot of time later on trying to find which stencil petal relates to which stamped petal and vice versa!! By the way the little scalloped blobs on the stencil are the corresponding flower 'middles'  :)

PaperArtsy Stencil {Kay Carley} 120 (PS120)

Wishing You Joy, Peace & Love this Christmas
using EKC22 and PS120

Just like the poinsettia stencil, this bauble stencil has been perfectly sized to match the bauble stamps. Once again you get the 'mask' elements of these baubles included in your stencil packet.

As well as using the stencil to easily create coloured baubles think about using it with glitter paste to create sparkly baubles and Grunge Paste to create textured raised baubles.

I also use the stencil to pop the matching stencil bauble over my stamped bauble to enable me to stamp parts of bigger stamps into the baubles. If this doesn't make any sense to you I will be demoing at Ally Pally on Saturday 15th September 2018 on the Stamper's Grove stand so feel free to  stop by and ask me to show you!

I may also try (at some point!!!) doing a few videos or Facebook Lives to demonstrate what I'm jabbering on about!!

Once again I mark the front side of my bauble masks so that I immediately know which side is the 'right side'. I use a permanent black pen for this and then just pop a small piece of clear tape over the top of it to protect it.

Project One: Let It Snow...Let It Snow...Let It Snow...

This card demonstrates perfectly how I tried to keep the elements across all three stamp sets sized accordingly so that they would all work well together!

If you look closely you will see the points of the large snowflake (EKC23) behind the layered up poinsettia (EKC21).

The stencilled snowflakes within the baubles (EKC22) are from the snowflakes on the poinsettia stencil.

There's some subtle background stamping using the large holly swirl from EKC22, stamped and embossed tiny snowflakes from EKC23 as well as a stamped and embossed swirl.

Each stamp set has a totally different theme but this shows how they still co-ordinate together.
Project Two: Deck the Halls

I've also made another card showing how that little snowman fits perfectly into the bauble!

He was left purposely small so that he could make an appearance in all sorts of ways rather than just as a 'regular grounded' snowman!

This particular card incorporates elements from the bauble stamp set (obviously!!), and the snowflake stamp set - (EKC22 and EKC23). Once again I've used one of the snowflakes from the poinsettia stencil (PS119) to add some decoration to the long baubles, plus of course I used the bauble stencil to quickly pop fresco paint into my stamped and embossed baubles.

I hope that this has given you a bit of an idea of what goes on inside my head when designing and why I separate out elements etc... I always try to think what will be most 'versatile' and what will enable you to create different sizes of projects and work easily with most mediums. However I'm still learning myself so I'm not above getting it entirely wrong!! However you choose to use these products please do tag me on social media as I would love to see what you create :).
