NEW PaperArtsy Products {Emma Godfrey} with Autumn Clark

NEW Eclectica³ {Emma Godfrey} Jan 2018

It's so much fun to challenge expectations. Think 'Vintage' and the first colour that comes to mind is possibly sepia. Not only does blue, yellow-orange totally bring to my mind the vibrancy of Portuguese tiles, but offers a challenge to work with Vintage stamps in this colour palette. Autumn nails it!

Hi everyone, Autumn Clark here to show you some ideas with Emma's newest stamps designed for PaperArtsy.

When my eyes first landed on the images I was immediately in love.  These are the types of images that first drew me into stamping almost two decades ago.  They are as timeless as versatile and my wheels are still turning at the sight!

Let's start with some ideas with each of the new products.

Eclectica³ Emma Godfrey Set 25 (EEG25)

Chipped Tiles using EEG25

There is so much mystery and symbolism associated with doors and windows.  My projects were inspired by the culture and colorful history of Portugal.  The tile stamps were amazing to work with, as repeating patterns is one of my favorite things.  I created chipboard tiles by brayering Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint (Chalk) with Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint (Smurf) onto chipboard, then stamped with Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint (China).  Cutting out the individual tiles and making grout from Grunge Paste gave me a substantial, yet lightweight background panel.

I could make zillions of these tiles and would love to do a tiled photo frame.  The key adds to the symbolism, along with torn pages and tattered edges, forming a sense of history.

Dreams of Yesteryear using EEG25

The more I played, the more I felt the old world beauty of these stamps come alive.  What secrets this door holds and how the years might have passed has only increased their beauty.  I wondered who longed to go in, who longed to go out.  What meditative work!

To capture this essence, I experimented more and more with developing depth and color variations, here I applied Grunge Paste to my panel and using the tile stamps (rather than a stencil) to make an impression in the wet paste. This reflects the plaster-effect, old and peeled-paint, stucco walls of Europe.

Eclectica³ Emma Godfrey Set 26 (EEG26)

Vantage Point using EEG26

For my first few pieces I purposefully let the door and window stamps overlay simple watery color.  I feel this gives a great impact.  Playing with these complimentary colors provided such a powerful statement, without lots of fuss.

In addition to color contrast, I am drawn to the juxtaposition of the matte and high shine.  Here I achieved this through embossing over watercolor and Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint (Chalk).  As you can see, I really got carried away!

Project One: The Water's Pull

I just had to make a tag in the mix of projects.  This one perhaps, most completely captures the essence of Eclectica³ Emma Godfrey Set 26 (EEG26) in my design style.

Step One: First I cut out a tag shape from Smoothy card.  From there I painted my tag with Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint (Chalk) and filled the center of the tag by embossing the gorgeous pebble sidewalk texture stamp.

Step Two: I added dripping color to the top and bottom of my tag.  On the top I brushed on Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint (Tango) with my finger and spritzed heavily with water.  I blended the water with the paint using my finger, then added more water and tilted the tag to  make beautiful drips.  Once this was dry, I flipped the tag and repeated the same process with Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint (Baltic Blue) onto the bottom.  I embossed the tile repeatedly in white for contrast.  I stamped the arrow stamp onto scrap inky card and bundled with some loose thread.

Step Three: For the top of the tag I added a book page strip and partially stamped the border from the window, covering the very tip of my tag with tissue tape.  I added a die cut tab and eyelets and mounted the 'door knocker' hand, which I embossed onto watercolor card.

Project Two: An Open Door

I've also made a card with an interactive element.  These stamps seem to call for that.  Eclectica³ Emma Godfrey Set 25 (EEG25) is filled with beautiful patterns that seem to repeat in various sizes and here I've layered those for a timeworn effect.

Step One: First I stamped the door onto tissue paper with Archival ink, tore the edges away and painted the back with Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint (Tango) and Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint (Tangerine Twist) from FFTS1.

Step Two: Now, I aim to make my stamps into purposeful tools.  I chose to cut out the center words of the arrow stamps.  I am often found cutting my stamps into smaller pieces.  The beauty of EZ Mount Cling Foam stamps is that they piece back together perfectly, almost like a small puzzle.

Step Three: For my base, I printed a background panel with a mix of Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint (Smurf) and Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint (China) onto book paper glued to watercolor card.  I stamped the tiles with Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint (Chalk) for contrast.  I wanted even more contrast so I embossed the tin ceiling stamp in white onto tissue and adhered the torn bits over parts of my background.  I stamped the arrow border onto scrap inky card and adhered to my background panel which gave me the ability to write a new sentiment inside.  I used the cut out word stamp to build up the collage along the edges and even stamped a Fresco Finish paint cap on the side, mimicking a postage cancellation.

Step Four: Last of all, I carefully cut the door open with an X-acto and added a knob.  I stamped the butterflies from PaperArtsy Hot Pick {HP1506} on a panel and layered behind the door.

I wish there was more time in the day to play, as I have a mile long list of project ideas for these beautiful stamps.  For certain, you will be seeing them in my handmade journals and other works.  It was a great honor to design for Emma, as she embarked in a new direction of imagery.  Her entire stamp range is beautiful and these are the icing on the cake!

Best regards, Autumn
