White
on white on white and repeat. How stunning is this by Wanda! Well
perhaps some off white creeps in, but you do need that contrast, and its
wonderful!
Hi everyone, it's Wanda Hentges (Art By Wanda) with you today, and I'd like to share with you a wall hanging in shades of white.
I
was looking through my Ellen Vargo stamps trying to decide just what I
was going to create thinking about Shades of White and thinking about
Christmas. When I saw set number EEV04, I immediately thought
poinsettia and so began my project.

was actually very nervous about trying to do something in Shades of
White but am totally in love with my finished piece!!! I hope you are

I
didn't trust myself to free hand cut the "petals" for my poinsettia so I
made a pattern. I stamped one image on a scrap piece of paper,
sketched around it, cut it out and also cut some of the center out so I
could line it up over my actual petals.
As
I got more comfortable cutting I did add other spikes on the edges so
they didn't all appear exactly the same. I began my flower thinking I
was going to do a simple poinsettia, just 5 leaves and call it good.
For those first 5 I painted heavy smoothy with Chalk and stamped the image with a mix of approximately half and half, Gold and Vanilla.
Once I had them cut out and tried putting my flower together, I was
unhappy with it and decided I needed many more petals. I did 10 more, 5
with a mix of Gold and Honey Dew
and 5 with a mix of Gold and Chalk. Mixing the paints worked really
well!!! The colors look kind of pearly, the hint of Gold keeps them
tied together but it's more interesting because they aren't all exactly
the same.
To give more definition to my petals, I pulled out my flower shaping tools.
After shaping them all I found a 5-petal flower punch in my stash and built my poinsettia off of that.
I
absolutely loved the poinsettia once it was done and knew this had to
become a home decor piece. I have quite a bit of corrugate that is
covered on one side and wide open corrugate on the other. I know it
came as packaging in something at one time. I decided it would be
perfect. I coated the corrugate side with gesso, wiped it back with a
baby wipe and splattered it with White Fire.
I had thought about stamping it or stamping tissue and gluing it on but
then decided another panel between the corrugate and the poinsettia
would be better.
For
this final panel, on top of stamping and a white wash, I created lots
of texture, shimmer and shine with Paste, Mica Spray and Glitter. Some
fluffy fibers to cover the center as the stencil wasn't large enough to
cover the whole panel. I made a line down the middle and worked the
stencil out from the center on both sides. This piece really sets the
poinsettia off nicely!!!!
You will find more pictures showing step-by-step how I did the panels on my blog.
Hugs, Wanda
