2017 #17 White: Minimalist Home Decor with EDY {by Lucy Edmondson}

2017 Topic 17: Shades of White

Lucy is heading into cushion-design with this option to brighten up any room. What oucld you stamp? Pre-bought cushion covers and a bit of planning regarding colour and stamps, and you are in action!

Hi everyone, it's Lucy here, from Lucy's True Colours, and today I'd like to share with you some crisp white reversible cushion covers for your bedroom or living room, stamped with Fresco Finish Acrylic Paints.

When I first saw the topic 'White', it made me think of the all white decor of aspirational estate agency programmes, and interviews with rich celebrities in glossy magazines. Do they have dogs and children, I ask myself? Or is it just that they have a daily cleaner and a huge dry cleaning bill?. For us mere mortals, I thought I would make some very manageable reversible cushion covers as the Frescos become perfectly washable when mixed with a little fabric medium, and you can use whatever colours match the rest of your room. I've been wanting to make these for a long time but I found it surprisingly difficult to source suitable white cushion covers at a reasonable price (by which I mean I never spend much in case I mess up!). Then I found these at a certain Swedish store and they are absolutely perfect as they have a lovely weave but still stamp extremely well.

I made myself a palette with the Fresco colours I wanted to use, and a little drop of Liquitex Fabric Medium. I used a piece of Cut N Dry sponge and for the first side of my cushion cover I used the stunning feather from Darcy's  EDY09 which is quite a large image.

For the top of the image I used a dab each of Purple Rain, Wisteria, and Lavender, and the lower part of the image, a dab each of Caribbean Sea and Smurf Fresco Finish Paints, and then cut a small strip of Cut N Dry to apply the Gold to the spine of the feather. You only need a tiny amount of the fabric medium.

I stamped the feather at different angles over the cushion cover, keeping plenty of white background.

I then repeated the process on the other side of the cushion, this time using the Leaf from Darcy's  EDY 10.

Here are the cushions on my sofa, although I think they would look great in a bedroom.

And here's a closer look.

I enjoyed making this project so, so much! It really inspired and energized me after a non creative period caught up with family issues, and made me want to stamp every piece of fabric in sight! It also made me feel more excited about Christmas as I feel similar projects would make perfect gifts, especially if you know your recipient's colour schemes. It would also be great fun to use Christmas images to stamp napkins for your table setting, or how about stamping a white pillow case to act as a gift sack at the bottom of a child's bed? The ideas are endless!

Thank you so much for looking and for your comments,

I love how you have used different leaf stamps on the cushions, and the soft shades of blue are so pretty on white too! Love this idea Lucy, and glad you sourced covers so easily too! ~ Leandra
