Mini envelope journal by Ruth Mescall
In
Ruth's post tonight she shows us how to work beautifully with single
isolated images in her recognisable minimalist and manner. She creates
warm layers with well positioned elements and embellishments. I was so
excited to see how Ruth would use these new stamps from Seth, and true
to form, she demonstrates her talent to create depth with perfect
attention to detail.
All these new products are available from your PaperArtsy stockists now. See the list at the foot of this post.

Hi everyone, Ruth here tonight to show you an idea or two with Seth's brand new stamps that he's designed for PaperArtsy.
I've really enjoyed using Seth's previous releases and exploring his paint techniques but I squealed with delight when these arrived as they are a wonderful development and addition to his range. The 2 large stamps immediately spoke book covers to me, combined with a current love of Kraft paper and white paint I was creating an envelope journal to showcase the smaller stamps before I knew it. I also couldn't resist an little infusions play and created a quick card.

The 2 large stamps immediately spoke book covers to me, combined with a current love of Kraft paper and white paint I was creating an envelope journal to showcase the smaller stamps before I knew it. I also couldn't resist an little infusions play and created a quick card.
There's a beautiful etched detail to the larger stamps that needs very little else to showcase them and roughly brayered chalk, concrete, white fire and pewter fresco acrylic paint on Kraft paper gives an instant background to stamp on to.
The stamps work beautifully with Seth's stencils and I've used a mix of grunge paste and mahogany and terracotta from his set 1 paints to add some detail to the background.
In
my mind I kept referring to this as the washi tape stamp because you
can use it in strips and it's already a firm favourite for creating
lines or a background grid; stamped in orange blossom and sepia and
archival it's reminiscent of rusted metal.
Speaking
of circles, I used a few different techniques with this trio and and
they all turned out beautifully, whether it's black embossing on a
painted background or archival stamping on smoothy card.
One of the things I also noticed was that all the small images are
really easy to cut out (I'm not a big fan of fussy cutting)
Last close up from the journal and this is such a beautiful image, I stamped it on to a crackle effect background (created using crackle glaze) and added a little metallic foil. The circular element can also be trimmed and used on it's own. Little rusted metal embellishments and thread just help finish the journal pages off.
Black Knight infusions and stamping in paint create the background for this card. I wanted to show how versatile these stamps are and feel the images providing a perfect focal point for this monochromatic CAS card.
I will be posting more pictures of the journal pages on my blog but just want to finish by saying it's been a total joy to work with these beautiful stamps and have so many ideas of how I want to use them in future projects. I hope we've been able to show you the versatility of these stamps and provided some inspiration for you. Happy creating! Ruth x
