GD: Julie Ann Lee #3: The Green Man {Part 3}

"Hi there, only me (Julie Ann), and thank you so much for returning to see my final play with 'The Green Man' idea. For this canvas I really wanted to see where some of the new PaperArtsy products might lead me, so rather than a Spirit of Spring, tonight's Green Man has a definite Autumnal glow".

This time I used the Hot Picks moth from 1006 again and I have used Darcy's enchanting Mini 01 for the very first time: I was delighted with the result. I love the story-book quality of her Eclectica stamps. It's as if they come from a fantasy land.

I painted my third canvas with the new Limited Edition Lin Brown Frescos, blending Chutney and Seaweed and then spread over a thin layer of Crackle Glaze.

After painting with nice thick strokes of Guacamole, I coloured some Grunge Paste, one portion with Guacamole and one with Tikka. I then pushed my coloured Grunge Paste through Lin's Eclectica leaf stencil and through the Crafters' Workshop Mini bricks. The Tikka was very pale, although not as white as it appears in this photo. I was a bit disappointed with myself for not adding enough paint to the mix, but when it was dry I was able to add more colour and to achieve a shaded effect, which I was pleased with.

I used Chartreuse, more Tikka and Seaweed with some Treasure Gold Green Amber to create my sun-baked garden wall.

The little sprig of foliage in the bottom left of the canvas was actually an accident! However, when I removed the stencil I liked the tiny sprig so I kept it and painted it. I painted my wire with Gesso again, but this time I coloured it with Chutney. I like the effect which looked like rust to me as well as a vine stem.This time I painted my mask with a mix of Chutney, Seaweed and Tikka all from the Lin Brown Eclectica 3 LTD Frescos so that it had a rich clay-like colour and then applied a blend of Treasure Golds over the top: Classic, Florentine and Green Amber.

Now the strong Autumn gusts have started to take their toll and the poor Green Man's leafy hair is thinning! I used some Treasure Gold White Fire on these leaves to suggest the first touch of frost.

Taking some ordinary white wrapping tissue I painted with coats of Guacamole, Seaweed and Chartreuse. I love the combination of opaque and translucent over the top. I then stamped the toadstools from Darcy's Electica Mini 01 onto this and onto some Tikka, cutting out the tiniest toadstools.

Using Satin Glaze by PaperArtsy to fix my layers of tissue, I stuck on the toadstool and added some hand-painted grass and leaves.

Here is a reminder of all three of my 'Green Men'. I do hope they have brought a breath of Spring with them! Maybe at Christmas I should add a fourth and make it a 4 Seasons theme. Perhaps he will become more of a Jack Frost than a Green Man! Thank you so much for patiently watching as these little projects developed. It's been lovely to share with you again; I do hope you will feel inspired to play along, if not with me then with one of the other great PaperArtsy designers this week.

Leandra Says: A wonderfully exploratory week in the forest with you Julie Ann! Such great ideas! Thanks for sharing with us all. xx

  1. Wow, Julie Ann, today's Green Man is just wonderful - though I think he may get sore eyes with the twigs poking through... seriously I love this one, I think most of all. Thanks for inspiring us this week.

  4. They are all so magical and interesting Julie. Ann. They intrigue me which is what art should be about. The third mask is a fabulous contrast to the other two, he provides some rest for the eye (not his,) and he is calming and gentle. The wall is somehow comforting too. Thankyou for providing us with so much stimulus. Didn't respond last night as was on a mission to finish my green man. X
